Nationalized Cosmopolitanism With Communist Characteristics: The Esperanto Movement's Survival Strategy In Post-World War Ii Bulgaria, Ana Velitchkova
Faculty and Student Publications
The case of the Bulgarian Esperanto movement under state socialism demonstrates a social movement can survive under authoritarianism by establishing a legitimate activist culture acceptable to the regime while pursuing its intrinsic goals. Bulgaria, a close Soviet ally, was a difficult case of movement survival. In the early years following World War II, the national Esperanto periodical Bulgara Esperantisto was a key organizing tool for the movement reporting on its activities, reaching out to potential recruits, and legitimizing the movement under the new communist-led regime. Examining the periodical's discourse over a two-year period, I find that the movement managed to …

SEC Spanish Consortium Conference
This talk aims to highlight some key findings from our study of recently emerging Latinx communities in the U.S. South. We focus on the socio-demographic profiles of approximately 60 participants representing different generations in northern Mississippi and eastern North Carolina. We analyze these findings alongside demographic data on Latinx communities from these regions, to shed light on …

Evaluation Of The Carotid Artery Using Wavelet-Based Analysis Of The Pulse Wave Signal, Sameh El-Sharo, Amani Al-Ghraibah, Jamal Al-Nabulsi, Mustafa Muhammad Matalgah

The use of pulse wave analysis may assist cardiologists in diagnosing patients with vascular diseases. However, it is not common in clinical practice to interpret and analyze pulse wave data and utilize them to detect the abnormalities of the signal. This paper presents a novel approach to the clinical application of pulse waveform analysis using the wavelet technique by decomposing the normal and pathology signal into many levels. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) decomposes the carotid arterial pulse wave (CAPW) signal, and the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) creates images of the decomposed signal. The wavelet analysis technique in this work …

Providing Culturally Competent Eldercare For Asian Americans, Britney Ngo
Honors Theses
As the Asian American elderly population continues to grow, it is important to acknowledge cultural factors that may impact their behavior, attitudes, preferences, and decisions in the context of eldercare. This thesis seeks to address the applications of providing culturally competent eldercare to Asian Americans and offer future recommendations to care settings that have limited resources by utilizing a multidisciplinary review of literature accompanied by interviews with representatives from On Lok, a …
