Leveraging The Influence Of Power Grid Links In Renewable Energy Power Generation, Wei Wang, Haibo Wang, Bahram Alidaee, Jun Huang, Huijun Yang Jan 2022

Leveraging The Influence Of Power Grid Links In Renewable Energy Power Generation, Wei Wang, Haibo Wang, Bahram Alidaee, Jun Huang, Huijun Yang

Faculty and Student Publications

Smart grid construction provides the basic conditions for grid connection of renewable energy power generation. However, the grid connection of large-scale intermittent renewable energy sources increases the complexity of operational control of power systems. With the increase in intermittent renewable energy grid connections, distribution system operators must optimize and integrate these new participants to ensure the flexibility and stability of smart grids. Dividing the smart grid into logical clusters helps to overcome the problems caused by intermittent renewable energy grid connections. In this study, we propose a 2-step modeling approach that includes both link and leverage analyses to detect the …

Phytochemical Investigation Of Egyptian Riverhemp: A Potential Source Of Antileukemic Metabolites, Shimaa M. Abdelgawad, Mona H. Hetta, Mohamed A. Ibrahim, Premalatha Balachandran

Faculty and Student Publications

As part of our research group's continuous efforts to find alternative treatments for cancer, the aqueous ethanol extract of Sesbania sesban L. Merr. (SS, Egyptian riverhemp) demonstrated an antileukemic activity against K562 cell line. Bioguided fractionation of SS leaves hydroethanolic extract resulted in the isolation of one new compound (33) named as hederatriol 3-O-β-D-glucuronic acid methyl ester as well as 34 known compounds. Seven compounds ((34), (22), (20), (24), (21), (19), and (35)) showed high antiproliferative effects (IC50 = 22.3, 30.8, 31.3, 33.7, 36.6, 37.5, and 41.5 μM, respectively), while four compounds ((32), (5), (29), and (1)) showed milder activities …

Performance Of Xor Rule For Decentralized Detection Of Deterministic Signals In Bivariate Gaussian Noise, Xingjian Sun, Shailee Yagnik, Ramanarayanan Viswanathan, Lei Cao Jan 2022

Performance Of Xor Rule For Decentralized Detection Of Deterministic Signals In Bivariate Gaussian Noise, Xingjian Sun, Shailee Yagnik, Ramanarayanan Viswanathan, Lei Cao

Faculty and Student Publications

In this paper, we consider the performance of exclusive-OR (XOR) rule in detecting the presence or absence of a deterministic signal in bivariate Gaussian noise. Signals, when present at the two sensors, are assumed unequal, whereas the noise components have identical marginal distribution but are correlated. The sensors send their one-bit quantized data to a fusion center, which then employs the XOR rule to arrive at the final decision. Here we prove that, in the limit as the correlation coefficient r approaches 1, the optimum fusion rule for both parallel and tandem topologies is XOR with identical, alternating partitions (XORAP) …

Climate-Risk Materiality And Firm Risk, Ella Mae Matsumura, Rachna Prakash, Sandra C. Vera-Muñoz Jan 2022

Climate-Risk Materiality And Firm Risk, Ella Mae Matsumura, Rachna Prakash, Sandra C. Vera-Muñoz

Faculty and Student Publications

Managers are required to disclose material climate risk in Form 10-K, but their decision whether or not to disclose is confounded by the lack of consensus on whether climate risk is material to the firms, as well as uncertainty about enforcement of disclosure regulations. Using the SASB Materiality Map™ to proxy for market expectations of climate risk materiality, we test whether the association between disclosing climate risk in 10-Ks and firm risk (proxied by cost of equity (COE)) varies with market expectations of climate risk materiality. Using S&P 500 firms’ decisions whether to disclose climate risk in Form 10-K for …

Association Between Electronic Media Use, Development Milestones And Language In Infants, Maian Stamati, Lucas G. Gago-Galvagno, Stephanie E. Miller, Angel M. Elgier, Rocío A. Hauché, Susana C. Azzollini

Faculty and Student Publications

The use of electronic media has increased in early childhood. During early childhood, language and motor skills are important for the development of other cognitive skills. Therefore, it becomes essential to study how the use of screens is associated with these important skills in the first years of life. The objective of the following research was to describe the use of electronic media (i. e., TV, cellphone and tablet) and its association with language and developmental milestones in the first years of life. Participants were 253 primary caregivers of infants between 2 to 48 months (M = 30.17 months, SD …

Design, Analysis, And Application Of Flipped Product Chaotic System, Md Sakib Hasan, Partha Sarathi Paul, Anurag Dhungel, Maisha Sadia, Md Razuan Hossain Jan 2022

Design, Analysis, And Application Of Flipped Product Chaotic System, Md Sakib Hasan, Partha Sarathi Paul, Anurag Dhungel, Maisha Sadia, Md Razuan Hossain

Faculty and Student Publications

In this paper, a novel method is proposed to build an improved 1-D discrete chaotic map called flipped product chaotic system (FPCS) by multiplying the output of one map with the output of a vertically flipped second map. Two variants, each with nine combinations, are shown with trade-off between computational cost and performance. The chaotic properties are explored using the bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponent, Kolmogorov entropy, and correlation coefficient. The proposed schemes offer a wider chaotic range and improved chaotic performance compared to the constituent maps and several prior works of similar nature. Wide chaotic window and improved chaotic complexity …

Cascading Cmos-Based Chaotic Maps For Improved Performance And Its Application In Efficient Rng Design, Partha Sarathi Paul, Maisha Sadia, Md Razuan Hossain, Barry Muldrey, Md Sakib Hasan Jan 2022

Cascading Cmos-Based Chaotic Maps For Improved Performance And Its Application In Efficient Rng Design, Partha Sarathi Paul, Maisha Sadia, Md Razuan Hossain, Barry Muldrey, Md Sakib Hasan

Faculty and Student Publications

We present a general framework for improving the chaotic properties of CMOS-based chaotic maps by cascading multiple maps in series. Along with two novel chaotic map topologies, we present the 45 $nm$ designs for four CMOS-based discrete-time chaotic map topologies. With the help of the bifurcation plot and three established entropy measures, namely, Lyapunov exponent, Kolmogorov entropy, and correlation coefficient, we present an extensive chaotic performance analysis on eight unique map circuits (two under each topology) to show that under certain constraints, the cascading scheme can significantly elevate the chaotic performance. The improved chaotic entropy benefits many security applications and …

The Criticality Of Financial Development And Energy Consumption For Environmental Sustainability In Oecd Countries: Evidence From Dynamic Panel Analysis, Olatunji Abdul Shobande, Lawrence Ogbeifun Jan 2022

The Criticality Of Financial Development And Energy Consumption For Environmental Sustainability In Oecd Countries: Evidence From Dynamic Panel Analysis, Olatunji Abdul Shobande, Lawrence Ogbeifun

Faculty and Student Publications

This study explored whether financial development and energy consumption affect environmental sustainability in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. The empirical evidence used in this study was based on the standard fixed effects and the Arellano-Bover/Bundell Bond dynamic panel approach. Our empirical results demonstrated the importance of a financial development index and energy efficiency for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability in the OECD. The mechanism through which financial development affects carbon emissions has been identified as energy consumption and foreign direct investment. Our study recommends that financial development be prioritised alongside investments in energy efficiency to promote …

Graphene-Metal Metasurface For Cloaking Of Cylindrical Objects At Low-Terahertz Frequencies, Shefali Pawar, Hossein Mehrpour Bernety, Alexander B. Yakovlev Jan 2022

Graphene-Metal Metasurface For Cloaking Of Cylindrical Objects At Low-Terahertz Frequencies, Shefali Pawar, Hossein Mehrpour Bernety, Alexander B. Yakovlev

Faculty and Student Publications

Most of the theoretical studies involving graphene, typically assume an ultra-high mobility and/or high value of Fermi energy to achieve exciting functionalities such as polarization conversion, absorption, cloaking, among others. In practice, however, graphene with such high mobility is very difficult to realize, on account of the numerous flaws and impurities that inevitably are introduced during the graphene growth and transfer process. This severely compromises graphene's practical performance, despite the appeal of theoretical predictions. A novel design was presented in 'X. Wang et al., IEEE Trans. Antenna Propagat., vol. 67, pp. 2452-2461, 2019', wherein a graphene metasurface was devised to …

Good Love Is Black: Stories On Black Queer Living In The American South, Danielle Buckingham

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Black Queer and Trans folks conjure love in their lives, by any means necessary, even in the face of terror. This is what has been at the root of their survival against the anti-Blackness and heterosexism that permeates the nation. Good Love Is Black, highlights their journeys navigating multiple marginalized identities, particularly in the American South. For this project, I spoke with folks who are natives of or currently residing in Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Texas, and Kentucky. This written thesis accompanies a narrative podcast that explores the ways in which their Black, Queer, and Southern Identity informs how they …
