Testing The Integrity Of Liquid Containing Hermetically Sealed Containers By The Use Of Radioactive Markers, Patrick P. Deluca, L. David Butler
Testing The Integrity Of Liquid Containing Hermetically Sealed Containers By The Use Of Radioactive Markers, Patrick P. Deluca, L. David Butler
Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty Patents
A method for detecting leaky ampules filled with a liquid such as a parenteral solution. The ampules to be tested are immersed in a solution containing a short-lived radionuclide, and a pressure differential is imposed between the solution containing the radionuclide and the parenteral solution or other liquid contained in the ampules. The ampules are then removed from solution, decontaminated to remove any solution adhering to the outer surface and pores thereof, dried, and finally examined for electromagnetic radiation, preferably gamma radiation, emanating from the interior of the ampules which would indicate a leaky condition thereof.

Use Of Molybdenum In The Transplant Water For Burley Tobacco, J. L. Sims, Jones H. Smiley, M. E. Suchy, A. M. Wallace
Use Of Molybdenum In The Transplant Water For Burley Tobacco, J. L. Sims, Jones H. Smiley, M. E. Suchy, A. M. Wallace
Agronomy Notes
The need for adding molybdenum to tobacco arises because contents in Kentucky soils generally are on the "borderline" of sufficiency and because amounts of available molybdenum in soil are low when soil pH is low. Soil pH in tobacco fields at midseason often is 0.5 to 1.0 pH unit lower than prior to fertilization. primarily because of the high rates of commercial fertilizers commonly applied to tobacco. This acidity greatly lowers the availability of molybdenum to tobacco plants. That is why we recommend the use of molybdenum when soil pH before fertilization is 6.4 or below.

Problem Identification For Highway Safety Plan (Fy 1982), Jerry G. Pigman, Kenneth R. Agent, Joseph D. Crabtree
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
To comply with Section 402, Title 23 of the United States Code, each state is required to prepare an annual highway safety program. Kentucky's program, which includes identification, programming, budgeting, and evaluation of highway safety projects, is intended to have a positive impact on the reduction of traffic accidents. The first step in the program, problem identification, requires systematic, statistical analyses of accident records. In-depth analyses of accident data were performed, and 24 problem areas were investigated. Accident rates were found for counties and cities in the following categories: total accidents; fatal accidents; accidents by driver age and sex; and …

A Reading Of The Gospel According To Luke As A Response To The Tragic Tradition, James M. Donovan
A Reading Of The Gospel According To Luke As A Response To The Tragic Tradition, James M. Donovan
Law Faculty Scholarly Articles
Among the many purposes of the author of Luke-Acts, one of the most pertinent was "to present Roman authority to Christians, and the Christians to Roman authorities, in the best possible light, in the hope of fostering good relations between them." The presentation of "Roman authority to Christians" was accomplished primarily through the refutation of the Jewish tradition, and the substitution of the Romans as both the legitimate political rulers and as the equally intended, more receptive recipients of the 'good news.' Toward this end, Luke portrays Romans throughout his narrative as being sympathetic or, at least, non-antagonistic. For example, …

Psychological Factors That Predict Reaction To Abortion, D. T. Moseley, Diane R. Follingstad, H. Harley, Robert V. Heckel
CRVAW Faculty Journal Articles
Investigated demographic and psychological factors related to positive or negative reactions to legal abortions performed during the first trimester of pregnancy in 62 females in an urban southern community. Results suggest that the social context and the degree of support from a series of significant persons rather than demographic variables were most predictive of a positive reaction.

Survey Of Lane Delineation Methods, Kenneth R. Agent
Survey Of Lane Delineation Methods, Kenneth R. Agent
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
The objective of this study was to summarize the nationwide experience pertaining to various lane delineation methods. The usage, cost, and problems associated with each alternative could then be analyzed for the purpose of determining an optimum marking program. A survey of the methods of lane delineation used across the United States was done by means of a questionnaire sent to each state. Responses were received from 46 states. Most of the information dealt with the following lane delineation methods: raised pavement markers, pavement tape, thermoplastic markings, and paint and beads.
Modeling Soil Water Contents And Their Effects On Stream Flow In Kentucky, Grant W. Thomas, Ronald E. Phillips, David E. Radcliffe, Scott Shepard
Modeling Soil Water Contents And Their Effects On Stream Flow In Kentucky, Grant W. Thomas, Ronald E. Phillips, David E. Radcliffe, Scott Shepard
KWRRI Research Reports
Soil water contents of eight important soil series in Kentucky were measured periodically during the summer growing season for four years, 1977 through 1980. The soils divided into three groups according to their behavior. The first group (Maury and Crider) is well-drained and never showed excess water above field capacity at any time during the four seasons. The second group (Zanesville, Lowell, Calloway, Grenada and Shelbyville) showed perched water tables at times, especially during the early part of the growing season. The third group was represented by the Huntington soil which has a permanent water table.
The in-situ field capacity …

Retrieval Guide: Kentucky Soils Data System, William J. Pfalzer, Louise B. Hensley
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
The Kentucky Soils Data System is an extensive data file of the physical properties and characteristics of soils as determined by field and laboratory testing. Site locations are available for most samples. Since Kentucky has been mapped geologically (scale 1:24,000), the bedrock at each of these sample locations can be determined, providing better opportunities for studying soil-bedrock (parent material) relationships. A complimentary report covers data input. This report is divided into two sections: data availability and data retrieval. The first section is designed to show the quantity and types of data available and how the data are distributed geographically. The …

Survey Of Effectiveness Of Transportation Services, Jerry G. Pigman, Kenneth R. Agent, Joseph D. Crabtree
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
With increased emphasis on public accountability and program evaluation, the need for effectiveness measures to indicate the extent to which an agency's goals and objectives are being met is increasingly apparent. A research study was undertaken to establish and implement a procedure for monitoring the effectiveness of transportation services in Kentucky. Quantitative data for many of the effectiveness measures were obtainable only through responses from the public. Surveys of licensed drivers and bus riders were selected as data sources. This report addresses the procedures and results of the two surveys. Responses were received from 35.5 percent of the 10,000 licensed …
Fertilizing Soybeans, Monroe Rasnake
Fertilizing Soybeans, Monroe Rasnake
Soil Science News and Views
Soybeans need a fertile soil with a pH of about 6.4 for maximum production. This condition is best attained through a regular soil testing and fertilization program. A fertility program based on fertilizer and lime. use as determined by soil testing is more economical and more effective than applying large amounts of fertilizer at planting. Soil testing is the key.
