Task Iii Report: Water Use Estimation And Forecasting For The Kentucky River Basin, Glenn C. Blomquist, William Hoyt, D. Hu, C. Scott
KWRRI Research Reports
We estimate aggregate monthly water use for summer, peak demand and nonsummer off-peak demand periods for the Kentucky River Basin. Using Kentucky Division of Water use data, U.S. Census data for county demographic and economic conditions, and U.S. Weather Service data for weather conditions we estimate use for the 1970-1993 period. Our model allows for idiosyncratic effects of each of the 27 counties in the sample. We find factors such as population and manufacturing employment affect use and temperature and rainfall in current and preceding months effect use during the summer, peak period. The model predicts well within the sample …

The Question Of 'Cultural Language' And Interdialectal Norm In 16th Century Slovakia: A Phonological Analysis Of 16th Century Slovak Administrative-Legal Texts, Mark Richard Lauersdorf
Linguistics Faculty Book Gallery
There is not general agreement among scholars on the degree or type of standardization, or better, normalization, exhibited by Slovak texts before the 18th-19th century codifying efforts of Anton Bernolák, Ľudovít Štúr and their followers. Indeed, disagreement on this issue is greater the earlier the time period under consideration. The present study focuses on the 16th century and the degree and type of standardization/normalization exhibited in a corpus of 152 administrative-legal texts (judicial and municipal records, official correspondence, account books, etc.) from all four major Slovak dialect regions – Moravian, West, Central and East Slovak. The author examines the textual …

Cambrian Hydrocarbon Potential Indicated In Kentucky's Rome Trough, David C. Harris, James A. Drahovzal
Information Circular--KGS
A recent gas discovery in the Rome Trough has resulted in a new phase of deep exploration in eastern Kentucky. This activity is located in Elliott County, near the northern boundary fault of the Cambrian Rome Trough graben. The Carson Associates No. 1 Kazee well was drilled in 1994, and blew out with a reported uncontrolled flow of 11 million cubic feet of gas per day. Although completed at a much lower rate, this well renewed interest in the deep gas potential of the Rome Trough, which has seen sporadic drilling activity since the 1940's. Gas production in the Rome …

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
The Extended-Weight Coal Haul Road System, created by the Kentucky Legislature in 1986, consists of all roads which carry over 50,000 tons of coal in a calendar year. Trucks hauling coal on this system are authorized to exceed normal weight limits through the payment of an annual decal fee. A research study was initiated in July of 1992 to analyze the impacts of the extended-weight system.
Analyses in this report are based on the following: historical data on coal production and transportation: data from coal decal applications; interviews of legislators. transportation officials. coal company representatives. and coal trucking representatives: newspaper …

Document Availability And Delivery: Problems And Prospects For Developing Countries, Antoinette Paris Powell
Library Faculty and Staff Publications
The central theme of this paper was originally developed for the Third Conference on Librarians in International Development held at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, U.S.A. in May of 1991 . The idea for the paper had its roots in the Vllth World Congress of the International Association of Agricultural Librarians and Documentalists (IAALD) where Syed Salim Agha presented a paper entitled "Effecting Information Transfer Through the Document Delivery Process in South East Asia." In that paper Syed Salim Agha outlined the barriers to document delivery along with potential solutions. His presentation left a lasting impression and six years …
