Derivation Of Reservoir Operating Rules By Economic Analysis, Charles O. Dowell
Derivation Of Reservoir Operating Rules By Economic Analysis, Charles O. Dowell
KWRRI Research Reports
The purpose of this study was to develop a methodology for determining an optimum set of reservoir operating rules specifying the of storage space based on the example of Rough River Reservoir, a Corps of Engineers project in Breckinridge and Grayson Counties, Kentucky, and assuming this multipurpose reservoir provides flood control, water supply, and recreation. The operating rules were derived by the method of marginal analysis which uses as its criteria achievement of maximum net benefits from the available storage capacity.
Benefit relationships were derived for each use. The variation of flood control benefits with available flood storage was determined …

Research Relating To State Highway Laws, James H. Havens
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
The Department's study began late in 1962 and was undertaken as a review and analysis of the main body of highway law; but, of course, any subsequential objectives--stated or implied-remained contingent upon and would become a natural consequence of the first-mentioned type of inquiry and the improbablity of discovery. Undoubtedly, the Department was influenced by and was under inducement of the Bureau of Public Roads in this undertaking, The review-and-analysis phase was accomplished, in part, by the School of Law, University of Louisville, acting under contract (CH119 36, dated November 15, 1962) which was subsequently dissolved (9-30-63); a draft report …
Skid Testing With An Automobile, Rolands L. Rizenbergs, Hugh A. Ward
Skid Testing With An Automobile, Rolands L. Rizenbergs, Hugh A. Ward
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
A study was conducted to evaluate the theoretical and practical aspects of using an automobile as a testing device for measurement of pavement slipperiness. Every parameter and significant event in the excursion history of a skidding automobile was measured and recorded. The resultant skid-resistance values, twenty-five in all, were compared and correlated. As a result of the study, the measurement of time in the velocity increment between 30 mph to 20 mph was selected as an interim standard test. A number of experiments were also conducted to aid in the interpretation of test results and to establish control tolerances for …

The University And The Liberty Of Its Students -- A Fiduciary Theory, Alvin L. Goldman
Law Faculty Scholarly Articles
The disciplinary power of a university is a force which every student has cause to fear. The exercise, or threat of exercise, of a school’s disciplinary power is felt in every area of campus life. Invocation of disciplinary sanctions against a student whose personal conduct or attitudes contravene standards dear to the school authorities has occurred in such ludicrous cases as the failure of a co-ed to be a “typical Syracuse girl.” In another case, a student was expelled because she refused to pay purported debts which she asserted were properly her husband’s obligations. As insidious as it may be …

Proposed Remedial Design For Unstable Highway Embankment Foundation: I-64-6(6) 117, Bath County, Gordon D. Scott, Robert C. Deen
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
Early in 1966, during the construction of a large embankment between Stations 1738+00 and 1745+00 on I 64 in Bath County (I 64-6(6)117, SP 6-404-5G1), a serious slide occurred involving large quantities of the embankment material. After a visit to the site and a review of the subsurface information available, it was assessed that the slide occurred as a result of a bearing-capacity failure of the foundation material.
Zinc Deficiency In Corn, Harold Miller, Shirley Phillips
Zinc Deficiency In Corn, Harold Miller, Shirley Phillips
Agronomy Notes
Status of Zinc Deficiency
Corn is the only field crop presently grown in Kentucky that has shown zinc-deficiency symptoms and that has definitely given a response to zinc applications. Isolated instances of zinc deficiency have been reported from nearly every area of the state. However, the difficulty appears to be more prevalent in soils of the central Bluegrass and the western Pennyrile regions.
Considerable variation in respect to zinc deficiency has occurred within these regions, characterized by no consistent pattern. Corn producers in these areas particularly should watch this crop closely for deficiency symptoms during the period 4 to 6 …
