An Open Letter To The Ebww Community, Mark Shatz

Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog

Death. Dying. Grief. That's my professional playlist- I'm a death educator. I help others deal with loss. If I was a Dayton resident, I probably would be on a crisis intervention team assisting the community with its recent tragedies. My only connection to Dayton is the Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop, where I've presented numerous times. Regardless of the topic, I'm always asked the same question. "You know, that thanatologist-humorist thing is weird. How are death and humor related?"

For the past dozen summers, my family has madethe drive of nine or more hours (depending on the number of putrid gas station restrooms we visit) from East Texas to Orange Beach, Alabama. This year, in addition to my wife and three daughters, I was accompanied by my mother, my in-laws and two of our nieces, so the drive basically took the entire month of July.

Total Rna Extraction From Transgenic Flies Misexpressing Foreign Genes To Perform Next Generation Rna Sequencing, Abijeet Singh Mehta, Agustin Luz-Madrigal, Jian-Liang Li, Panagiotis A. Tsonis, Amit Singh

Biology Faculty Publications

Due to absence of transgenic approaches in Notopthalmus Viridescens (newt), and conservation of genetic machinery across species, we generated transgenic Drosophila melanogaster to misexpress unique genes from newt. Novel newt genes cloned, and inserted at attP site in Drosophila were misexpressed ubiquitously using tubulin Gal-4. Sample (total RNA) for RNA sequencing was collected at 3rd instar larval stage during which major developmental events takes place in Drosophila. Total RNA was extracted, and purified using RNA clean and ConcentratorTM. RNA quality was quantitated by calculating absorbance at 260 nm (A260) and 280 nm (A280) wavelengths using Nanodrop 2000 spectrophotometer. Good quality …

Now that we are in the dog days of summer, and the heat makes dogs pant so much that they don't even wear pants, it can safely be said that most people would give their right arms for a pool, which kind of defeats the purpose because they'd end up swimming in circles.
