Rising global temperatures over the past decades is directly affecting glacier dynamics. To understand glacier fluctuations and document regional glacier-state trends, glacier-boundary detection is necessary. Debris-covered glacier (DCG) mapping, however, is notoriously difficult using conventional geospatial technology methods. Therefore, in this research for automated DCG mapping, we evaluate the utility of a convolutional neural network (CNN), which is a deep learning feed-forward neural network. The CNN inputs include Landsat satellite images, an Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS) digital elevation model (DEM) and DEM-derived land-surface parameters. Our CNN based deep-learning approach named GlacierNet was designed by appropriately choosing the type, number …

Mitotic cell detection is one of the challenging problems in the field of computational pathology. Currently, mitotic cell detection and counting are one of the strongest prognostic markers for breast cancer diagnosis. The clinical visual inspection on histology slides is tedious, error prone, and time consuming for the pathologist. Thus, automatic mitotic cell detection approaches are highly demanded in clinical practice. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end multi-task learning system for mitosis detection from pathological images which is named"MitosisNet". MitosisNet consist of segmentation, detection, and classification models where the segmentation, and detection models are used for mitosis reference region …

1. Rationale for the new certificate program
With the suspension of the University’s Arts Administration minor program, a curricular gap was created for students who continued to express an interest in pursuing professional work in arts management and related fields. The creation of a new undergraduate arts certificate program that better reflects the University’s values by focusing on community engagement through the arts will be more accessible, practical and attractive as an undergraduate certificate than a more narrowly focused arts management minor program or a graduate certificate program with limited connection to the arts. This undergraduate certificate program …

Rationale for the new certificate program
The Sport Communication Certificate is designed to respond to both the needs of students and the trends within sport industries. Students from multiple disciplines currently explore sport culture from different perspectives. Communication students produce and deliver sport content via television, radio and social media. Conversely, Sport Management students explore the economic, political, social, and global contexts within which sport culture operates. Acquiring both sets of skills – media production and sport management – within a certificate is intended to enhance students’ current major and promote their marketability in the workplace.

It's winter break and my son is home from college. Nightly my husband and I are jarred awake by his clang of a spoon against our one remaining ancient Corelle cereal bowl. He hadn't managed to quite break them all by the age of 10 with his enthusiastic rounds of Nerf attack over breakfast.

Every December, I do the same calculation: 1 classroom teacher + 2 classroom aides + 1 principal + 1 behaviorist + 1 speech therapist + 1 counselor + 1 occupational therapist + 1 bus driver = $1 million in holiday gifts for my son's teachers, aides and service providers.

Hurrah and humbug. Here's to our annual ambivalence. Time to decorate, shop 'til ya drop and develop a mild drinking habit to cope. As a staunch offline shopper, allow me to emphasize that I do indeed love the Internet but I hate the hassle of being hacked. However, I absolutely adore aIl of you online shoppers. Your method of shopping at home helps free up space for me at the malls. I'm no misanthrope, not even a curmudgeon, but I'm also no Mr. Congeniality among fellow shoppers.

Magnetic nanoparticle structures have been examined as potential carrier vehicles and substrates in a wide range of applications where they undergo mechanical, chemical and/or thermal manipulation to allow for their modification, conjugation and transport. For safe and effective use, it is imperative to not only measure the initial physicochemical and structural properties of nanomaterials, but also identify and quantify any property changes related to a loss of chemical and/or physical integrity during processing and usage conditions. In this study an assessment of iron oxide magnetic nanoparticle thermal stability using modulated differential scanning calorimetry (mDSC) and a controlled-heating system is conducted …

On the eve of registration for the 2020 Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop, emcee Pat Wynn Brown humorously urged writers to "get to the barricades at high noon" as she shared a link on Facebook to "One Day More" from the musical Les Miserables. Within five minutes after registration opened on "E- Day," more than 200 writers had claimed their spots for the spring conference, paving the way for a sellout in less than half a day (actually 10 hours and 28 minutes for those of us who appreciate precise details). This is the writing world's equivalent of snaring Bruce Springsteen …
