Sociology Major Develops Survey About The Impact Of Photos On Perception, Hayden Doyle
College of Arts and Sciences Newsroom
University of Dayton junior Katie Gross was struck by an experience she had at an exhibit that featured stories from Dayton community members, along with their portraits. Influenced by not only their words, but also their images, she wondered if science could prove the impact of photographs on human perception. Working with a faculty mentor, she developed a study to determine whether including a photo with a narrative influences the way people see another person and process their story.

1. Rationale for the new program, definition of the focus of the program and a brief description of its disciplinary purpose and significance, including unique features of the program (e.g., international study, service learning, research, etc.).:
The Management and Marketing department proposes to offer a new Management major. In many ways this proposal represents a modest revision of the existing International Business Management major (which we plan to discontinue if this proposal is approved). The current International Business Management major requires students to select an emphasis in either Global Markets or International Human Resources.
In contrast, the new …

Rationale for the new certificate program
The Sport Communication Certificate is designed to respond to both the needs of students and the trends within sport industries. Students from multiple disciplines currently explore sport culture from different perspectives. Communication students produce and deliver sport content via television, radio and social media. Conversely, Sport Management students explore the economic, political, social, and global contexts within which sport culture operates. Acquiring both sets of skills – media production and sport management – within a certificate is intended to enhance students’ current major and promote their marketability in the workplace.

Leaving A Legacy: Empowering Students To Give Back, Eric Schutter
Leaving A Legacy: Empowering Students To Give Back, Eric Schutter
Honors Theses
Most college universities struggle to convince alumni to give back to their former institutions. Currently, only 19.9% of college alumni give back to their former colleges (Alumni Factor, 2018). Despite the amount of time and energy that schools invest in their students, many of the students are not making any sort of commitment in return. However, there is a solution. If college programs found ways to create avenues for students, both current and former, to give back outside of just university general funds, they could see an increase in student giving from both parties. While there is a notion that …
