The Strange New World In The Church: A Review Essay Of 'With The Grain Of The Universe' By Stanley Hauerwas, Brad Kallenberg
The Strange New World In The Church: A Review Essay Of 'With The Grain Of The Universe' By Stanley Hauerwas, Brad Kallenberg
Theology and Religious Studies Faculty Publications
Hauerwas's refusal to translate the argument displayed in With the Grain of the Universe (his recent Gifford Lectures) into language that "anyone" can understand is itself part of the argument. In the end, my …

Blessed Mother Theodore Guerin, Bishop Celestine De La Hailandière, And Their Seven-Year Time Of Trials," 1840-1847 ", Rosemary K. Halter
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Blessed Mother Theodore (b. Anne-Therese) Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. She was beatified by the Catholic Church on 28 October 1998. Celestine de la Hailandiere was the second bishop of Vincennes, Indiana. The “time of trials” is a period of disputes and misunderstandings between the two which lasted from 1840 to 1847. It culminated with Mother Theodore locked in a parlor, excommunicated, and expelled from the diocese, and with Bishop Hailandiere resigning from the episcopacy. The purpose of the study is threefold: to promulgate the life story of Mother Theodore; to examine her spirituality; and …

The Poor And Third Millennium, Gustavo Gutiérrez
The Poor And Third Millennium, Gustavo Gutiérrez
Marianist Award Lectures
Gustavo Gutiérrez reflects on the meaning of liberation theology and the preferential option for the poor. He explains that the preferential option comes from the goodness of God, who loves the poor because they are “closest to an unjust and early death.” The preferential option for the poor therefore demands that ethics influence economics.
