There is a lack of tools and training to assist in salary and benefit (S&B) negotiations within the nutrition profession. This study is the first to analyze thoughts, feelings, and experiences with S&B negotiations among nutrition and dietetics professionals. The 32-item, web-based, cross-sectional survey study was completed by English-speaking individuals of any gender who identified as a “nutrition and dietetics professional,” were 18 years of age or older in the United States or US Territory. Participant demographics, experience, confidence, and success with negotiation of S&B, value of negotiation, and interest in learning more were the primary outcome measures determined before …

Incorporating Intuitive Eating Education: Dietetics Students’ Perceptions Of Their Eating Behaviors, Body Esteem, And Self-Efficacy To Provide Effective Nutrition Counseling, Alessandra Sarcona, Dara Dirhan
Journal of Dietetic Education
Intuitive eating (IE), an evidence-based, weight-inclusive, hunger-based, and mind-body health approach, is critical for dietitians to know and practice when working with clients to manage their health. Yet, many dietitians are not familiar with the practice of IE, stemming from a lack of training in their dietetics curriculum. The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to investigate the outcomes of creating pedagogical activities incorporating IE education into a senior-level Professional Skills in Dietetics course (Intervention Group [IG]) on students’ eating behaviors, body esteem, and self-efficacy to provide effective nutrition counseling and compare it to junior-level dietetics students in a course …

Navigating The Adoption Of Interprofessional Education As A Performance Standard In Dietetics Education, Paige Whitney, Mary Ann Kluge
Journal of Dietetic Education
Abstract: The purpose of this collective case study was to explore the diffusion of interprofessional education (IPE) in response to specific Future Education Model (FEM) Graduate Program accreditation standards and performance indicators. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of 12 FEM program directors from geographically diverse US states. Website and document review were triangulated with the interview data, and Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) was used as a theoretical framework to add dimension to the study. Three themes emerged from analysis: 1) Accreditation standards are not the driving force of IPE; 2) Program Directors can serve …

This chapter considers the importance of Catholic comics in special collections and emphasizes their potential as multi-disciplinary research and teaching tools. The legacy of comics as Catholic educational literature, subjects of censorship, and political bellwethers in the United States make these visual texts rich in content for both special collections instruction and student scholarship. This article provides an overview of Catholic comics in special collections at the University of Dayton, a brief survey of the history of Catholic comics in the United States, and illustrates examples of active learning and research in special collections through two case studies. Revolutionary Songs From Myanmar: Reconsidering Scholarly Perspectives On Protest Music, Heather Maclachlan
Department of Music Faculty Publications
Since the February 1, 2021 military coup in Myanmar, Burmese musicians have been creating and circulating anti- coup songs. This article describes a representative sample of these songs, explaining how the lyrics reference important tropes in Burmese life and history. Further, the article argues that these anti-coup songs, while they can be understood as protest music, do not fit precisely into categories previously delineated for protest songs. Nor do these songs provide a neat answer to the question that scholars so often pose of protest music, to wit: do these songs work to persuade listeners to take an anti-authoritarian position? …

This case study describes an academic library’s student-developed communal space for the purposes of creating, collaborating, and project development. The story begins with an exciting process and partnership developed between University of Dayton (UD) Libraries and UD’s Institute of Applied Creativity for Transformation (IACT). An IACT experiential learning program led 12 students to research and reimagine the role of the campus library, which resulted in Concourse D, “where projects take flight,” a prototyped transdisciplinary project development studio. This mutually beneficial process led the library to a user-centric mindset as they reimagined space as service; patrons as creators; and a new …

This report presents findings from an environmental assessment of multiple amusement parks across North America. The assessment aimed to identify opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and water usage. Key findings include: two-thirds of total emissions come from off-site energy generation, significant energy savings potential during off-season periods, variation in energy intensity across locations, and a strong correlation between cooling degree days and energy consumption at one location. Recommendations include reducing electrical consumption, purchasing green energy, installing on-site renewable energy, replacing fossil fuel equipment with cleaner alternatives, and implementing water conservation measures. These insights inform decarbonization, energy conservation, …

We embarked on the Echoes Through Time journey with the intention to allow the student ensemble to learn about the life of Paul Laurence Dunbar through the creation of an original theatre performance with music selections. This show was devised from the students’ exploration of his life and legacy and the incorporation of music that put poetry to song. As directors, we were particularly taken with how the women in Dunbar’s life were compelling …
