Audit Evidence, Technology, And Judgement: A Review Of The Literature In Response To Ed‐500, Dereck Barr‐Pulliam, Christopher G. Calvin, Marc Eulerich, Arpine Maghakyan

Accounting Faculty Publications

In October 2022, the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) issued Exposure Draft 500 (ED-500). This is focused on revising and integrating the standard auditors use when evaluating audit evidence during an external audit. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse as the IAASB evaluates feedback to ED-500 and executes its standard-setting agenda. We review academic literature published in the past 10 years to synthesize extant knowledge specifically on the use of technology and the application of professional skepticism during audit evidence evaluation. The goal of this project was to identify how dietetics programs meet ACEND standards relating to public policy in their current and/or accredited program. Methods: An online survey was sent to dietetics faculty at U.S. higher education institutions. Survey questions focused on how programs currently meet ACEND standards for public policy or plan to meet standards in their dietetics program. Respondents were …

Challenges Of Competency Management For Dietetics Program And Internship Directors: An Application Of Design Thinking, David Gaviria, Elizabeth Chen

Journal of Dietetic Education

Objective: Dietetics education transitioned to competency-based education (CBE) in July 2022. Despite its benefits, managing competencies may be a challenging aspect of CBE for dietetics program and internship directors (PDIDs), yet it is unclear what specific aspects of competency management are difficult. Using design thinking, this study sought to capture the impact recent CBE implementation had on PDIDs by identifying specific pain points (i.e., challenges) related to competency management. The results of this work serve to document such pain points and may be used to generate solutions to address or eliminate the pain points. For example, this research can support …

Communicative Capacities Of German Marriage Portraits: Portrait Of A Daughter Of Dietrich Bromsen, Victoria Brey Jan 2024

Communicative Capacities Of German Marriage Portraits: Portrait Of A Daughter Of Dietrich Bromsen, Victoria Brey

Joyce Durham Essay Contest in Women's and Gender Studies

BreyAhh, portraiture: the Facebook, Instagram, and Tinder profiles of 1635. Portraiture has historically been one of the most powerful means for constructing and performing identity, whether viewers of portraits realize this or not. Rarely are portraits objective representations of their sitters. Instead, they are constructs, carefully crafted narratives about people’s identities that the people in the portraits want us, the viewers, to believe. Do they want to show us their authentic selves, though? Returning to the social media example—has anyone ever swiped right on a hot guy and discovered too late that he looks like a tortoise in real life? …

What’S Faith Got To Do With It? Young Earth Creationism And The Promise Of Certainty, William Vance Trollinger, Susan L. Trollinger Jan 2024

What’S Faith Got To Do With It? Young Earth Creationism And The Promise Of Certainty, William Vance Trollinger, Susan L. Trollinger

Intersections of Science and Faith

Contrary to what one might imagine, the proponents of Biblical creationism do not appeal to religious faith. Instead, they proclaim Genesis 1 as a historically and scientifically true description of creation by the only "eyewitness" (God), a description that they say is clearly substantiated by genuine, empirical science (as opposed to what they claim is the false, biased science of evolutionists). That is to say, young Earth creationists possess the certainty of truth.

The Power Of Females And Femininity In The Silmarillion, Madeline Shelly Jan 2024

The Power Of Females And Femininity In The Silmarillion, Madeline Shelly

Joyce Durham Essay Contest in Women's and Gender Studies

J.R.R. Tolkien is unarguably the most influential fantasy author of modern literature. The modern fantasy genre, from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones, would not exist without him. The motifs in Tolkien’s works, from elves to dwarves to the epic quest to save the world, have been retold and ingrained into the subconscious of the western world, so that a work of fantasy would not be fantasy without displaying at least some elements originating from Tolkien. His major works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, have become staples of Western literature and film. However, some criticism has been …

Digital Devotion: Marian Shrines Online, Kayla Harris Jan 2024

Digital Devotion: Marian Shrines Online, Kayla Harris

Books and Book Chapters by University of Dayton Faculty

Using the online components of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, including the website and social media channels, this chapter explores how Marian shrines are occupying digital and e-spaces. This chapter describes these spaces, analyzes the relationship between digital and in-person shrines, and considers how virtual shrines have blurred the line between devotional practice and entertainment. E-shrines raise important questions about the overlap between digital and physical spaces within Catholic practice. Attuned to the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, this chapter argues that digital devotion has become an increasingly important practice that has pushed Marian shrines …
