Brazil: Fan Implementation, Gasification, Griddle Design, Efficiency Testing, And Cost Analysis Of Wood Stoves, Sally Maki, Steven Osgood

ETHOS Technical Reports

The following report describes the work performed over a two month period at a company called Ecofogão. Ecofogão produces wood burning stoves that utilizes a new design to increase efficiency and reduce emissions. Many individual projects were worked on during the internship. This report has been divided into sections for organizational purposes. Projects discussed included fan implementation and gasification, griddle design, efficiency testing, cost analyses, design analysis, a social project, website translation, and a photography project.

Some conclusions regarding the projects were obtained. The implication of a fan in the stove for gasification proved to be unsuccessful. A new griddle …

At this juncture when policymakers are being asked to choose between deregulation and reform, problems affecting the superintendency need to be framed appropriately and policy decisions need to be based on evidence and not raw politics or emotion. Deregulating a profession clearly is a serious matter that is prudent either when the need for the state to protect the public from practitioners is no longer valid or when the underlying knowledge has been found to be fraudulent or irrelevant (Kowalski, 2004).
