I remember my first week in Central Florida’s Police Academy like it was yesterday, even though it feels like a lifetime ago. It was the summer of 2007 and I was in my early 20s, 160ish pounds and over 6 feet tall. The physical training for police academies are structured like the U.S. Military Academy’s boot camp, but to a lesser degree. I had people tell me what to expect, but nothing prepared me for that first week.

Featured Bookshelf: 2021 Black History Month, Megan M. Haught
Featured Bookshelf
The national celebration of African American History was started by Carter G. Woodson, a Harvardtrained historian and the founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, and first celebrated as a weeklong event in February of 1926. After a half century of overwhelming popularity, the event was expanded to a full month in 1976 by President Gerald Ford.
Here at UCF Libraries we believe that knowledge empowers everyone in our community and that recognizing past inequities is the only way to prevent their continuation. This is why our February Featured Bookshelf suggestions range from celebrating outstanding …

Resilient Florida Buildings: Alternative Fuel Options For Maintaining Power During Outages, Brochure, Florida Solar Energy Center, Colleen Mccann Kettles
FSEC Energy Research Center®
Electricity outages impact buildings as well as the fueling infrastructure that delivers energy resources for power generation and transportation. A fueling infrastructure with minimal downtime during power outages is needed to increase the resiliency of buildings and the economy. This brochure describes alternative fuels to consider for a buildings resiliency plan. This material is based upon work supported by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) under the Energy Technology Development Program Award Number DE-EE0008880. The Influence Of Post-Visit Emotions On Destination Loyalty, Maksim Godovykh, Asli D. A. Tasci
The Influence Of Post-Visit Emotions On Destination Loyalty, Maksim Godovykh, Asli D. A. Tasci
Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Purpose: The influence of different factors including emotional states on loyalty has been previously discussed in the literature. However, the influence of post-visit emotions evoked by emotional stimuli on tourist loyalty lacks empirical attention. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of post-visit emotional stimuli on destination loyalty.
Design/methodology/approach: The study applied an online scenario-based experimental design to identify the impact of positive and negative affective pictorial stimuli on destination loyalty. A sample of 500 adult US residents who visited Orlando within the past 12 months was recruited to take part in the experiment. One-way ANOVA was …
Metal And Flexible Duct Systems Impacts Upon Cooling Energy And Performance, Florida Solar Energy Center, Charles Withers, Jr.
Metal And Flexible Duct Systems Impacts Upon Cooling Energy And Performance, Florida Solar Energy Center, Charles Withers, Jr.
FSEC Energy Research Center®
Flexible duct is commonly used throughout the U.S. in residential construction. It performs well when installed in accordance with industry standards, however, they are often not installed as such. Issues such as not cutting ducts to the exact length needed, and instead using significantly more duct, result in compression and higher static pressure. Poorly supported ducts or turns without proper radius also increase static pressure. A research project was completed to evaluate the differences in performance between a metal duct and flexible duct systems in two side-by-side otherwise identical residential laboratories. Testing evaluated three different flex duct system configurations compared …

I was looking at email late this morning when there was a small notice at the top right on the screen from AJC (the Atlanta Journal Constitution). At first the title of the message didn’t register with me as I saw it out of the corner of my eye. After several seconds it did register. The message was about Hank Aaron, and when I looked, I saw it was an announcement of the great man’s death. This was the third such notice of the death of a member of the Atlanta Braves family that I received in the past four …
