This session positions AI tools as a mechanism for supporting students with learning and attention differences grounded in theories of distributed cognition. It distinguishes cognitive barriers arising from peripheral demands from those related to conceptual understanding and higher cognitive tasks. Drawing on scaffolding, cognitive offloading, and translation, the session argues for equity through intentional task design rather than individual exception. It concludes by examining the pedagogical trade-offs between AI-supported cognition and the pursuit of tool-independent mastery.

This presentation argues that educators should not rely solely on AI‑detection tools when accusing students of AI‑assisted plagiarism. Instead, it proposes using detector scores only as “pedagogic probable cause,” a term developed by the author that signals when a submission warrants closer review, not a basis for disciplinary action. The presentation opens by outlining the limitations of current AI detectors, including high false‑positive rates and documented bias against non‑native English writers.

Online higher education relies heavily on instructional videos, yet many faculty-produced media assets inadvertently induce high extraneous cognitive load. Instructional designers frequently face an “expert bottleneck,” lacking the operational bandwidth required to conduct manual, frame-by-frame pedagogical audits across expanding institutional media catalogs. To bridge this research-practice gap, this paper presents an operational blueprint for the Multimodal Video Evaluator (MVE), an open-access, AI-driven workflow designed to automate multimedia quality assurance. This is the 1D magma ocean code used to create the NEONGOOEY data files for the Coupled atmospHere Interior modeL Intercomparison (CHILI) papers. This is a modified version of the GOOEY code from Schaefer et al. 2016, which includes carbon dioxide, a primordial hydrogen envelope, a new atmospheric escape framework and a new analytical corrected gray atmosphere approach for computing the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR). It has been used to model Earth, Venus, and Earth-sized scenarios at the orbits of TRAPPIST-1b and e.

The global rise in human trafficking is not receiving adequate media attention. While newspaper coverage of the topic has increased, current research argues that the issue is framed with a lack of diversity, limiting audience understanding of its complexity. Some researchers also note that coverage disproportionately focuses on sex trafficking, with minimal attention directed to other forms of trafficking such as the labor or organ trade. This paper conducts a narrative literature analysis of media research on human trafficking, drawing on framing theory to identify dominant frames in media messaging and synthesize cross-cultural factors that impact how the issue is …

While the original Star Wars films have long been seen as a modern fairy tale (Gordon, 1978, p. 314), I argue that the animated television show Star Wars Rebels could also be considered a modern fairy tale due to its narrative structure. To evaluate Star Wars Rebels' structural elements, I examine its plot through Vladimir Propp’s functions of a folktale, as fairy tales and folktales share many structural elements. Vladimir Propp defined folktales around a series of 31 functions, with an emphasis on the importance of their order. Throughout the years, there has been an upsurge in the quantity of cosmetic procedures aimed at changing eye color or appearance. This trend raises significant concerns about patient safety and visual health, as although many methods are promoted worldwide, their efficacy and, most importantly, safety varies greatly. This review looks at the safety of procedures that alter eye color or appearance, focusing mainly on cosmetic keratopigmentation, which is currently the only legally accepted method for changing eye color in the U.S.

Physics-Informed Neural Network Solution Of The 2d Helmholtz Equation With A Gaussian Source, Theodoros Panagiotakopoulos, Chris Velissaris, Aristotelis Nikolaos Rapsomanikis

We present a physics-informed neural network (PINN) framework for solving the complex-valued two-dimensional Helmholtz equation with a localized Gaussian source and spatially varying permittivity. Starting from Maxwell’s equations, the frequency-domain scalar Helmholtz formulation under transverse electric (TE) polarization is derived and enforced directly within the neural network loss function. The model employs a sinusoidal representation network (SIREN) architecture to capture the oscillatory nature of wave solutions and incorporates the Sommerfeld radiation condition to impose open boundary conditions. Training is performed using a hybrid collocation strategy combined with a two-stage optimization procedure consisting of Adam followed by L-BFGS. Numerical experiments in …

The increasing availability of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools has renewed concerns about the role of human reasoning in student learning. Although AI systems can efficiently generate explanations, uncritical reliance on automated outputs risks diminishing students’ engagement with interpretation and justification. Using a simple sensory arrival exercise to welcome and orient students to the learning environment encourages a whole being wellbeing approach to learning. Moving through each of the five senses as a way to fully arrive “in class” promotes self-regulation and engagement. Check-In With A Chatbot: How Robots Are Redefining The Smart Hotel Experience, Jiaxin Sylvia Wang, Xiaoxiao Fu

The research by Wang and Fu explores how guests perceive and experience smart hotels, with a particular focus on human–robot interaction. Analyzing 546 online reviews from Chinese travelers, the study identifies five key dimensions of guest gratification: utilitarian, sensual, social, experiential, and overall satisfaction. Guests praised smart servicescapes, robot efficiency, and novelty, while also expressing emotional connections and expectations for personalized interaction. The findings offer hospitality leaders a roadmap for designing smart hotel experiences that are not only functional but emotionally engaging.

The research by Mejia, Crandell, Broker, and Shoss reveals the complex realities faced by restaurant workers navigating the rise of service robots. Through in-depth interviews with 42 frontline employees, the study uncovers how robot adoption affects collaboration, productivity, emotional well-being, and perceptions of job security. While robots reduce physical strain and offer entertainment value, they also spark frustration, resentment, and fears of displacement. This research offers hospitality leaders a human-centered roadmap for integrating service robots in ways that support—not replace—the workforce.
