Journal of the Association for Communication Administration
This article attempts to offer a constructive analysis of pressures applied to the Department of Speech Communication at Iowa State University and the circumstances which have resulted in the changes that have occurred, as of September 1995. The department has been in a state of instability and insecurity for more than 20 years. There has long been a sense of foreboding over the department, probably since it began to expand its curriculum beyond simply offering basic public speaking. This pamphlet was given to guests who attended Mary McLeod Bethune's funeral. It provides names of active and honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers included George W. Engram and John Dickerson. Honorary pallbearers included James Roosevelt, son of Franklin Delano and Eleanor Roosevelt, Texas A. Adams, Edward Van Poole, and Ralph Bunche. It also gives the program for the service, including scripture readings, eulogies, and hymns. A statement of gratitude for the expression of sympathy is on the back cover. The pamphlet includes a portrait of Mary McLeod Bethune on its front.
