Derivation Of New Readability Formulas (Automated Readability Index, Fog Count And Flesch Reading Ease Formula) For Navy Enlisted Personnel, J. Peter Kincaid, Robert P. Fishburne Jr., Richard L. Rogers, Brad S. Chissom
Derivation Of New Readability Formulas (Automated Readability Index, Fog Count And Flesch Reading Ease Formula) For Navy Enlisted Personnel, J. Peter Kincaid, Robert P. Fishburne Jr., Richard L. Rogers, Brad S. Chissom
Institute for Simulation and Training
Three readability formulas were recalculated to be more suitable for Navy use. The three formulas are the Automated Readability Index (ARI), Fog Count, and Flesch Reading Ease Formula. They were derived from test results of 531 Navy enlisted personnel enrolled in four technical training schools at two Navy bases: Naval Air Station at Memphis, and Great Lakes Navy Training Center. Personnel were tested for their reading comprehension level according to the comprehension section of the Gates-McGinitie reading test. At the same time, they were tested for their comprehension of 18 passages taken from Rate Training Manuals.
An Automated Design Of Reinforcement Concrete Building Structures, Mehdi Bahremand
An Automated Design Of Reinforcement Concrete Building Structures, Mehdi Bahremand
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this paper is to present the development and use of a computer program to perform an automated structural design of two dimensional static concrete structural systems. The structural systems considered herein are composed of reinforced concrete beams and columns connected by rigid joints. Structural systems composed of large numbers of joints and members may be analyzed by using the developed program. The paper presents the development of the structural analysis using the displacement method and matrix techniques and the development of the concrete axial-moment interaction criteria. This criteria is based on the ultimate strength design using the …
Computer Generated Holograms, Jeffrey James Gierloff
Computer Generated Holograms, Jeffrey James Gierloff
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Computer generated holograms have been made practical by the introduction of fast Fourier transform algorithms. The following discussion will brief the reader on the theory and concepts of optical holograms, the computer hologram, and the analogies of the computer hologram to its optical counterpart. Some of the programming aspects of the computer holograms are presented. The results of the generation of several computer holograms are presented, and conclusions drawn as to the effectiveness of this technique. Finally, some of the practical uses and advantages of the computer hologram are discussed.
A Search For A Computer Graphics System For The Small-Scale Computer User, Larry D. Holley
A Search For A Computer Graphics System For The Small-Scale Computer User, Larry D. Holley
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This paper presents a review of several computer graphics systems. The need for a universal graphics language is discussed and some typical languages are investigated. Several types of display terminals have been researched and their advantages and disadvantages have been listed. A vector plotting routine has been programmed on a microprocessor system as a part of the research. A description of the vector plotting system is included in this paper. The system could be a "modular unit" for general purpose use with any alphanumeric raster-scan display terminal and a simple graphics language.
