Analysis Of Structural Dynamic Characteristics Of An Explosion Driven Hydrodynamic Conical Shock Tube, Walter R. Sanders Jul 1981

Analysis Of Structural Dynamic Characteristics Of An Explosion Driven Hydrodynamic Conical Shock Tube, Walter R. Sanders

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Previous tests of an explosion driven hydrodynamic shock tube revealed peak pressure data significantly lower than values predicted from the semiempirical scaling laws. It was hypothesized that part of the deviation was due to error in determining shock wave parameters and part might be due to measurement error caused by mechanical vibration of the tube. This investigation was conducted in two parts. In the first part, shock wave parameters were determined using a digital computer and curve fitting techniques to analyze digitized shock wave data. The second part involved determining the frequency components of the shock wave data noise content …

An Inventory Of Public Water Supply Wells Owned And Operated By Orange County, Florida, Michael J. Henry Jul 1981

An Inventory Of Public Water Supply Wells Owned And Operated By Orange County, Florida, Michael J. Henry

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Orange County, Florida, through its Sewer and Water Department, own fifty active and ten inactive water treatment plants. These treatment plants have a total of ninety-four supply wells, sixty-four of which are actually in service. Most of these wells were obtained through purchase from private or investor owned utility companies. A file search was undertaken from records of the Orange County Sewer and Water Department, U.S. Geological Survey, former water system owners, and well drillers in order to compile all available information on these wells. Information was gathered on location, original drilling of the well, static water level and pumping …

The Relationship Between A Mother's Knowledge Of Human Sexual Reproduction And Her Child Rearing Attitudes Toward Her Preschool Child's Emerging Sexuality, Susan F. Mcgolrick Jul 1981

The Relationship Between A Mother's Knowledge Of Human Sexual Reproduction And Her Child Rearing Attitudes Toward Her Preschool Child's Emerging Sexuality, Susan F. Mcgolrick

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Two hundred mothers were contacted through the child care center in which they placed their preschool child. They were tested on the Parent Attitude Research Instrument, which measures maternal attitudes toward child rearing, and the 24 Item Miller Fisk Sexual Knowledge Questionnaire, which measures knowledge of human sexual reproduction. A correlational analysis of the scores on these instruments revealed that mothers with high authoritarian and controlling attitudes toward children and children's emerging sexuality have a low level of sexual knowledge (r = -.65, p < .0001). It was also determined that single parent mothers are significantly more authoritarian and controlling in their child rearing attitudes (p = .05) than mothers in other family structures, i.e., original family intact, step/blended family, or divorced/separated family. Mothers of children in Head Start, as compared with mothers of children in university-based child care, corporate/private care, or church-affiliated child care, demonstrated the lowest level of sexual knowledge, (p = .05). These findings are important in the development of a comprehensive, systematic sex education program for parents.

Designing Six Variable Combination Logic Circuits With The Ti-59, Brian M. Ashford

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A program has been written for the Texas Instrument's TI-59 hand-held calculator implementing the Quine-McCluskey minimization method for logic circuit design. This program is contained on multiple magnetic cards and provides the user with the capability for combinational logic minimization of circuit design problems containing up to six variables.

Reactions Of (3-(Dimethylamino)-2-Azaprop-2-En-1-Ylidene) Dimethylammonium Chloride (Gold's Reagent) With Carboxylic Acid Derivatives And Grignard Reagents, Dale E. Polk Jul 1981

Reactions Of (3-(Dimethylamino)-2-Azaprop-2-En-1-Ylidene) Dimethylammonium Chloride (Gold's Reagent) With Carboxylic Acid Derivatives And Grignard Reagents, Dale E. Polk

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

An azavinamidium salt, [3-(Dimethylamino)-2-azaprop-2-en-l-ylidene] dimethylammonium chloride was reacted with primary amides, esters containing an ╬▒-methylene group and Grignard reagents. The reaction of this azavinamidium salt with amides and esters produced respectively, acyl amidines and enamino esters. Both of these products were produced in high yields by using relatively mild conditions. Reaction of the salt with Grignard reagents resulted in a novel synthesis of aldehydes. This aldehyde synthesis was shown to be of general utility and to proceed in high yields.

The Effects Of Temporal Delay Upon Denial As A Means Of Restoring Beliefs Following Succesful Persuasion, Ginny G. Beaubien Jul 1981

The Effects Of Temporal Delay Upon Denial As A Means Of Restoring Beliefs Following Succesful Persuasion, Ginny G. Beaubien

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Students in basic speech courses served as subjects in a study designed to test the efficacy of denial as a restorative agent after subjects' exposure to a belief-lowering attack. Denial was operationalized in two ways: (a) as a simple statement whereby the ostensible source of the attack message denied any connection with the attack, and (b) as a denial plus counter-assertion where the source additionally asserted an opinion directly contrary to that expressed i the attack. Denial treatments were administered either immediately, two days, or seven days after subjects' receipt of the attack message. While the immediate simple denial treatment …

Population Structure And Reproduction In The Introduced Florida Population Of The Pike Killifish, Belonesox Belizanus (Pisces: Poeciliidae), James S. Turner Jul 1981

Population Structure And Reproduction In The Introduced Florida Population Of The Pike Killifish, Belonesox Belizanus (Pisces: Poeciliidae), James S. Turner

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The pike killifish, Belonesox belizanus Kner, is the largest member of the live-bearing family Poeciliidae. The species is native to Central America, and was introduced into Dade County, Florida in 1957. B. belizanus is primarily piscivorous, and has been identified as a potential ecological "problem" species for Florida due to its heavy predation on small native fishes, especially the mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis). The population structure and reproduction of the Florida population were investigated in this study from field samples and aquarium observations. The mean standard length (SL) of mature females was about 103 mm. Most females larger than 75 mm …
