The effects of two readily available air-conditioner control strategies on dehumidification performance are discussed: fan "auto," in which the indoor air circulation fan cycles on and off along with the compressor, and fan "on," in which the fan operates continuously regardless of the on or off status of the compressor. Measured performance data are presented on two air-conditioning systems - a packaged terminal direct expansion, constant volume air conditioner without capacity modulation and a unitary direct expansion air conditioner with dual-speed compressor and indoor air fan motors. Measurements of the condensate removal from the air conditioner as well as its …

Selected Client Characteristics And Their Relationship To Successful Outcome In A Vocational Rehabilitation Program, Helen Harmon

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) had its beginning in 1918, when Congress granted to the Federal Board of Vocational Education the power to provide for the training of "any disabled veteran who was unable to carry on a gainful occupation, to resume his former occupation, or to enter upon some other occupation, or having resumed or entered upon such occupation was unable to continue the same successfully." (U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, 1972). Called the Soldiers Rehabilitation Act, this measure made clear the basic goals of vocational rehabilitation. In 1943, a milestone year, services were extended to all disabled individuals …

The Synthesis Of 2-Aryl-3-Fluoroalkoxy-1-Propenes And Some Potentially Useful Reaction Of These Systems, Joan E. Brown

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This report discusses research involving the fluoroalkoxylation of 2-arylprop-1-en-3-yltrimethylammonium iodides and the useful synthetic application of the adducts formed. The present work includes: 1) reactions of several 2-arylprop-1-en-3-yltrimethylammonium iodides with the sodium salt of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol; 2) reactions of several fluoroalkoxy alcohols with 2-(4-bromophenyl)prop-1-en-3-yltrimethylammonium iodide; and 3) the oxidation of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyoxy)-1-propene using the Lemieux/von Rudloff reagent. This report reveals the experimental conditions and procedures used as well as spectral and physical data of all new compounds synthesized. Explanation is offered for a possible mechanism for the formation of these compounds and recommendations for future research are given.

Utility Analysis: Estimating The Sdy Parameter For Accounting Supervisors, Terry P. Brownson

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Personnel decisions have the potential to influence an entire organization. The effects of these decisions are more credible and relevant when quantified. Historically, benefits were defined in correlational statistics, i.e., validity coefficients. But the increasing demand is for a bottom-line or dollar-value definition. The utility concept presents a methodology for providing the dollar value impact on performance of a personnel intervention program. One parameter of a utility analysis model is the standard deviation of job performance in dollars (SDy). This research develops a SDy value for the yearly production contribution of a first level line accounting supervisor to be used …

Effect Of Non-Ideal Sampling On The Discrete Fourier Transforms Of An Object Function, Karen Marie Macdougall

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Fourier Series and Fourier Transforms can be used to determine the frequency content of a continuous signal. This paper investigates the situation where a two dimensional object function is sampled by a detector array of a finite size. Continuous Fourier analysis is not applicable to sampled data, so the Discrete Fourier Transform is used. The similarities and differences between the discrete and continuous cases are discussed and consideration is made as to how the spectrum is altered when the normal assumptions of ideal sampling and recovery are not made.

The Implementation Of Quality Control Circle Concepts Into American Industry, John R. Hunt

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

In light of the growing worldwide competition among industrial manufacturers as developing nations become more technologically viable, it becomes imperative that we, as a nation, become more conscious than ever of quality and productivity.

Our most serious competitors, the Japanese, have developed a nationwide sense of quality consciousness and have evolved a management and manufacturing system to achieve their goals of superior quality that is currently unrivaled.

One important element of their productive system is the concept of Quality Control (QC) circles; generally described as a problem solving group of working people, who as members of a team, identify, solve, …
