A Closer Look At Visitors' Immersion In China's Theme Parks, Xiaoxiao Fu, Carissa Baker
A Closer Look At Visitors' Immersion In China's Theme Parks, Xiaoxiao Fu, Carissa Baker
Rosen Research Review
Engaging life experiences can become deeply entrenched in the human memory, facilitating mind associations, stimulating the imagination, and inspiring rich storytelling. UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management's Associate Professor Xiaoxiao Fu and Assistant Professor Carissa Baker, along with their co-authors, recently collected the subjective accounts of 30 people who had visited renowned theme parks in China. By analyzing these first-person tales, the researchers were then able to pin-point patterns and processes that characterized the respondents' immersion in experiences at the Chinese theme parks.
Engaging Hotel Staff In Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative, Tingting Zhang, Diego Bufquin
Engaging Hotel Staff In Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative, Tingting Zhang, Diego Bufquin
Rosen Research Review
Human trafficking is a serious global issue, within which the hospitality industry is a point of focus for sex trafficking. Despite increases in government- and corporate-mandated anti-human trafficking training, the level of hotel employee engagement with anti-human trafficking initiatives remains poorly researched. In a collaborative effort, researchers at UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management, Associate Professor Tingting (Christina) Zhang and Associate Professor Diego Bufquin, have set about identifying the factors that influence employee engagement with anti-human trafficking initiatives in the hotel industry in order to establish a practical framework for implementing more effective measures.
A Hospitality-Inspired Approach To Understanding Patient Experience, Maksim Godovykh, Abraham Pizam
A Hospitality-Inspired Approach To Understanding Patient Experience, Maksim Godovykh, Abraham Pizam
Rosen Research Review
Patient experience is the individual's perception of how a healthcare institution treats them on their journey through illness or injury. Research shows that patient-centered care not only improves the quality of healthcare services, but also the patient's wellbeing and health outcomes, and this has resulted in an increased focus on patient experience. Despite its established importance, accurate measurement of patient experience remains a challenge. Applying their experience and knowledge of the hospitality industry, Dr. Maksim Godovykh and Dr. Abraham Pizam at UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management are developing a broader and more scientific approach to measuring patient experience.

Rethinking Events Over Thirty Years Of Research, Michael B. Duignan
Rosen Research Review
Events are often pitched as business opportunities for the tourism and hospitality sector, but look deeper, and a far more compelling narrative emerges. In examining thirty years of events-related research, Dr. Michael Duignan of UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management has uncovered a highly complex and emerging field of study with significant value for the sector. It is also attracting the eye of researchers from other disciplines looking for insights into why people are drawn to share experiences.
Retaining Staff: Is It A Matter Of Instilling Pride?, Murat Hancer, Suja Chaulagain
Retaining Staff: Is It A Matter Of Instilling Pride?, Murat Hancer, Suja Chaulagain
Rosen Research Review
Hotels struggle to attract staff; you can partly blame the public perception of hotel jobs for that. But, why is it difficult to retain staff once they start? Perhaps an answer lies in whether they feel pride in what they do. Professors Murat Hancer and Suja Chaulagain at UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management led a team of researchers to unpack the notion of pride among hotel staff in the United States and Vietnam. What they learned has significant importance for a sector that crosses cultures.
Can Humor Help Sell A Tourist Destination Online?, Maksim Godovykh, Xiaoxiao Fu
Can Humor Help Sell A Tourist Destination Online?, Maksim Godovykh, Xiaoxiao Fu
Rosen Research Review
Destination marketers pack a lot into their websites, assuming potential visitors want detailed information. But perhaps they're missing a simple trick to attracting the attention of potential travelers and getting them to connect with what's on offer: a dash of humor. But humor is a doubleedged sword; experimenting with it can be potentially damaging. However, research by Dr. Maksim Godovykh and Dr. Xiaoxiao Fu at UCF's Rosen College of Hospitality Management has shown that even making light of a crisis can help boost attitudes and intentions.

Promoting Accessible Tourism At Mega-Events: Bridging The Disability-Attitude Gap, Michael B. Duignan, Alan Fyall
Rosen Research Review
UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management's Associate Professor Michael B. Duignan and Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, Alan Fyall collaborated with a team of fellow researchers to examine Tokyo 2020's potential to challenge ableist norms. Highlighting Japan's efforts to promote inclusive tourism for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), their collaborative study highlights the tourism sector's ongoing gaps. They argue that mega-events like the Olympics can be pivotal in driving inclusivity, addressing both physical and social barriers. Dive into this revealing examination of the interplay between tourism, events, and societal change.
Super Bowl Lviii, Richard C. Crepeau
Super Bowl Lviii, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
Every Super Bowl is different in its own way. There are good exciting games, and there are blowouts. There are games decided early, and games decided by a field goal or extra point as the clock runs out. But that’s just the game, and the game is the least important part of the Super Bowl. The real show begins a week or more before the game.

The Planetary Habitability Model (Plahab); V1, Ramses Ramirez
The Planetary Habitability Model (Plahab); V1, Ramses Ramirez
Laboratory of Planetary Habitability Atmospheric Models
Energy balance models (EBMs), alongside radiative–convective climate models and global climate models (GCMs), are useful tools for simulating planetary climates. Historically, planetary and exoplanetary EBMs have nearly all been 1D latitudinally dependent models with no longitudinal dependence. PlaHab is the first EBM that can simulate N2–CO2–H2O–H2 atmospheres of both rapidly and synchronously rotating planets, including Mars, Earth, and exoplanets located within their circumstellar habitable zones. PlaHab includes physics for both water and CO2 condensation. Regional topography can be incorporated. Overall, EBM results are consistent with those of other 1D and 3D models, …

Lotería: Hybrid Narrative Of A Transracial Adoptee, Dani F. Sarta
Lotería: Hybrid Narrative Of A Transracial Adoptee, Dani F. Sarta
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
Lotería is a hybrid poetry collection that follows the life of the speaker as a queer, Hispanic transracial adoptee raised by a conservative Catholic family in Central Florida, focusing on their struggle to fit into the binaries assigned to and expected of them across religion, race, gender, and sexuality. This collection is separated into three sections, each expanding on the one before as the speaker journeys through life, exploring their identity and their connection with the world around them. In the first section, poems such as "(Non)Binary Star" and "Size 6 Woman Size 18 Daughter" sift through the speaker's conflict …
Echo, Ana Beltran
Echo, Ana Beltran
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
Echo is a 3D animated short film rendered within Unreal Engine from Epic Games. The story is centered around a small child named Echo who has moved to Earth with her mom. The story follows her adventures through her first days at school and what can happen when a parent suddenly disappears from a child's life against their will.
Many of the story beats take direct inspiration from personal experiences of either myself, my family members, or stories of immigrant children who come to the United States (US) with their parents in search of a better future. There has been …
Xgboost Hyperberd Model Using Steam Platform, Yuh-Haur Chen
Xgboost Hyperberd Model Using Steam Platform, Yuh-Haur Chen
Data Science and Data Mining
This project investigates game pricing strategies in the Steam market using an XGBoost model, drawing motivation from Professor Xie's lecture, and presenting findings through a density plot that delineates two primary pricing strategies. A free-to-play approach, indicated by a significant hot spot, is adopted by developers focusing on post-purchase revenues through DLC, aesthetic purchases, and in-game transactions. This sailing strategy includes community-centric developers aiming to distribute their games for player engagement rather than profit.
The project illustrates the effectiveness of advanced modeling techniques in handling complex datasets, with significant predictive accuracy reflected by a reduced MSE from 0.3472 to 0.1397. …
A Limit Order Book Model For High Frequency Trading With Rough Volatility, Yun S. Chen-Shue
A Limit Order Book Model For High Frequency Trading With Rough Volatility, Yun S. Chen-Shue
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
We introduce a financial model for limit order book with two main features: First, the limit orders and market orders for the given asset both appear and interact with each other. Second, the high frequency trading (HFT, for short) activities are allowed and described by the scaling limit of nearly-unstable multi-dimensional Hawkes processes with power law decay. The model eventually becomes a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE, for short) with the diffusion coefficient determined by a Volterra integral equation governed by a Hawkes process, whose Hurst exponent is less than 1/2, which makes the volatility path of the stochastic PDE …
The Dyslexic Actor: How Dyslexia Affects The Acting Process, Kate Milazzo
The Dyslexic Actor: How Dyslexia Affects The Acting Process, Kate Milazzo
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
Dyslexia can benefit an actor, especially if the individual is aware of how the challenges and advantages of dyslexia impact their personal acting process. Dyslexia is widely understood to be a learning disability that affects an individual's reading and writing abilities. Many forms of theater rely on the written word, and an actor's success lies in their ability to interpret the text, leading one to question whether a dyslexic individual can find success as an actor. Yet several famous actors, including Octavia Spencer and Henry Winkler, are known to be dyslexic. As a dyslexic individual, I have also successfully participated …
Girl Child Marriage And Governing Party Ideology: Evidence From India, Divya Kapoor
Girl Child Marriage And Governing Party Ideology: Evidence From India, Divya Kapoor
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
Although India has made significant advances in reducing girl-child marriage compared to other countries in South Asia, one in three of the world’s child brides still lives in the country. The literature on girl child marriage focuses mainly on the effects of socioeconomic factors and examines the implications of child marriage. I argue that, in addition to socioeconomic factors, the practice of girl-child marriage may be explained by political factors. My study focuses on the case of India and examines the impact of political factors at the legislative assembly constituency (AC) level in two states with varying political traditions and …

Background
The World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergency Programme funded three rapid systematic reviews to inform development of guidance for emergency preparedness in health emergencies. The current review investigated the type of learning interventions that have been developed and used during health emergencies, and how they were designed and implemented.
Methods
Studies were included if they described just-in-time training to bridge a specific gap in knowledge or skills in a health emergency. Degree-building, institutional capacity-building, health workforce training, and general crisis preparedness were excluded. We searched PubMed, CINAHL, Communication and Mass Media Complete (EBSCO) (June 2023), and Web of Science …
