Duel Beam Low Coherence Interferometer With Improved Signal To Noise Ratio, Aristide Dogariu
Duel Beam Low Coherence Interferometer With Improved Signal To Noise Ratio, Aristide Dogariu
UCF Patents
A dual beam low coherence interferometer with improved signal to noise ratio. The interferometer directs both a collimated beam about a focused beam to a target. A detector detects the multiscattering from the target with a splitter where a reference arm with matched mirrors allows for measuring both the intensity and magnitude values of the beam to be measured. The intensity and magnitude values indicate the imaging of the target in applications such as OCT(optical coherence tomography) having medical imaging applications, while improving the signal to noise ratios. Other applications include material characterization in ceramics, composites and other granular material. …

Discharge Lamp Sources Apparatus And Methods, William Silfvast, Marc Klosner
UCF Patents
Capillary discharge extreme ultraviolet lamp sources for EUV microlithography and other applications. The invention covers operating conditions for a pulsed capillary discharge lamp for EUVL and other applications such as resist exposure tools, microscopy, interferometry, metrology, biology and pathology. Techniques and processes are described to mitigate against capillary bore erosion, pressure pulse generation, and debris formation in capillary discharge-powered lamps operating in the EUV. Additional materials are described for constructing capillary discharge devices fore EUVL and related applications. Further, lamp designs and configurations are described for lamps using gasses and metal vapors as the radiating species.

Studying The Relationship Between Parental Involvement And Sternberg's Triarchic Theory Of Intelligence, Liliana Munoz Bailey
Studying The Relationship Between Parental Involvement And Sternberg's Triarchic Theory Of Intelligence, Liliana Munoz Bailey
HIM 1990-2015
Extensive research has been conducted in the area of intelligence. Most of the research in this area has been focused on cognitive abilities. However, little research has been explored other type of intelligence and the environmental factors. The intent of this study was to investigate Sternberg’s Theory of Intelligence and parental involvement. According to this theory an individual’s intelligence is composed of three main domains: cognitive, creative and practical. Every individual possesses these abilities to a greater or lesser degree. Yet, little is known of what factors could lead to the difference in these types of abilities in individuals. Parental …

Taking The Pulse Of Communication Across The Curriculum: A View From The Trenches, Deanna P. Dannels
Taking The Pulse Of Communication Across The Curriculum: A View From The Trenches, Deanna P. Dannels
Journal of the Association for Communication Administration
The article describes the status of the communication across the curriculum (CXC) movement from the perspectives of CXC directors across the U.S. as of May 2001. The participants in this study provide a breadth of information about the daily life of communication across the curriculum programs nationwide. Results of this study indicate the pulse of the movement is strong, yet there are still areas for growth. Increasingly, higher education scholars, faculty in other disciplines, and members of the public are calling for communication instruction and presenting new challenges for directors and scholars to address. If CXC programs are to be …

Prostasin Is A Glycosylphosphatidylinositol-Anchored Active Serine Protease, Li-Mei Chen, Melanie L. Skinner, Steven W. Kauffman, Julie Chao, Lee Chao, Catherine D. Thaler, Karl X. Chai
Faculty Bibliography 2000s
A recombinant human prostasin serine protease was expressed in several human cell lines. Subcellular fractionation showed that this serine protease is synthesized as a membrane-bound protein while a free-form prostasin is secreted into the culture medium, Prostasin was identified in nuclear and membrane fractions. Membrane-bound prostasin can be released by phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C treatment, or labeled by [H-3]ethanolamine, indicating a glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchorage. A prostasin-binding protein was identified in mouse and human seminal vesicle fluid. Both the secreted and the membrane-bound prostasin were able to form a covalently linked 82-kDa complex when incubated with seminal vesicle fluid. The complex formation between …

Faculty Bibliography 2000s
Since little is known of how the primitive protozoan parasite, Giardia lamblia, senses and responds to its changing environment, we characterized a giardial protein kinase A (gPKA) catalytic subunit with unusual subcellular localization. Sequence analysis of the 1080-base pair open reading frame shows 48% amino acid identity with the cyclic AMP-dependent kinase from Euglena gracilis, Northern analysis indicated a 1.28-kilobase pair transcript at relatively constant concentrations during growth and encystation, gPKA is autophosphorylated, although amino acid residues corresponding to Thr-197 and Ser-338 of human protein kinase A (PKA) that are important for autophosphorylation are absent, Kinetic analysis of the recombinant …

A Comparative Study Of The Feeding Ecology Of Chelonia Mydas (Green Turtle) And The Incidental Ingestion Of Prorocentrum Spp, Karen Gayle Holloway Adkins
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The diets of green turtles from five dissimilar aggregations of juvenile C. mydas on the East Coast of Florida were analyzed. C. mydas were captured by tangle net from four of the study sites and a dietary sample was collected by an esophageal flushing technique. The gut content of stranded individuals was collected for the fifth site. The vegetation in these study areas differs in varying degrees of abundance and diversity. Analysis of the samples revealed the alga types preferred by green turtles from each population and provided the basis for examination of similarities and differences in their diets.
