UCF Patents
A light scattering sensing system and method. In one embodiment, the system includes a sample branch configured to collect light signals backscattered from scattering centers contained in a coherence volume of a medium under evaluation, the sample branch including a multi-mode optical waveguide. In one embodiment, the method includes radiating low-coherence light into a scattering medium using a multi-mode optical waveguide, and collecting light signals backscattered by the scattering centers and light reflected by an end surface of the multi-mode optical waveguide using the multi-mode optical waveguide.

Systems And Methods For Measuring Ultra-Short Light Pulses, Martin Richardson, Robert Bernath, Joshua Duncan, Michael Hemmer, Timothy Mccomb, Etienne Puyoo
Systems And Methods For Measuring Ultra-Short Light Pulses, Martin Richardson, Robert Bernath, Joshua Duncan, Michael Hemmer, Timothy Mccomb, Etienne Puyoo
UCF Patents
Systems and methods for measuring a pulse length (.tau..sub.0) of an ultra-short light pulse (P.sub.0) based on processing a number of substantially similar light pulses. The system includes an autocorrelation optical system adapted to receive the light pulses P.sub.0 and create from each light pulse two beams having an associated optical path length difference .DELTA.OPL. Providing a different .DELTA.OPL for each light pulse creates an autocorrelation interference pattern representative of an autocorrelation of the light pulse P.sub.0. An LED detector detects the autocorrelation interference pattern and generates therefrom an autocorrelation signal. A signal-processing unit forms from the autocorrelation signal a …

Photosensitive Polymeric Material For Worm Optical Data Storage With Two Photon Fluorescent Readout. Div.C, Kevin Belfield
Photosensitive Polymeric Material For Worm Optical Data Storage With Two Photon Fluorescent Readout. Div.C, Kevin Belfield
UCF Patents
Image formation via photoinduced fluorescence changes in a polymeric medium with two-photon fluorescence readout of a multi-layer structure. Fluorophore-containing polymers, possessing one or more basic functional groups, underwent protonation in the presence of a photoinduced acid generator upon exposure to a broad-band UV light source or fast-pulsed red to near-IR laser irradiation. Solution studies demonstrated formation of monoprotonated and diprotonated species upon irradiation, each resulting in distinctly different absorption and fluorescence properties. The fluorescence of the original, neutral, fluorophore was reduced upon monoprotonation, leading to a concomitant increase in fluorescence at longer wavelengths due to the monoprotonated form, the basis …

Nanoparticles Of Cerium Oxide Having Superoxide Dismutase Activity, Sudipta Seal, William Self
Nanoparticles Of Cerium Oxide Having Superoxide Dismutase Activity, Sudipta Seal, William Self
UCF Patents
A synthetic catalyst providing superoxide dismutase activity consists essentially of monodispersed nanoparticles of cerium oxide having a crystal lattice containing cerium in mixed valence states of Ce3+ and Ce4+ wherein the Ce4+ valence state predominates and containing an enhanced Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio and an effective number of oxygen vacancies in the crystal lattice so as to increase catalytic efficiency. A method of making the synthetic catalyst includes dissolving hydrous Ce(NO,), in water so as to form a solution, stirring the solution, adding hydrogen peroxide, heating and stopping when the solution develops a light yellow color.
