Spatial Solitary Waves In Bulk Quadratic Non-Linear Materials And Their Applications, George Stegeman, Lluis Torner, William Torruellas
Spatial Solitary Waves In Bulk Quadratic Non-Linear Materials And Their Applications, George Stegeman, Lluis Torner, William Torruellas
UCF Patents
This invention encompasses generating electromagnetic solitary waves in two-transverse spatial dimensions. These wave beams propagate without diffraction and are equivalent to the normal modes of propagation of a nonlinear system governed by second order optical nonlinearities. The wave beams can be generated using optical techniques and will impact a wide variety of geometries and operating conditions whenever second order nonlinear optical processes are implemented for harmonic and parametric optical conversion. A preferred embodiment covers the generation of solitary waves from nonlinear materials such as KTiOPO.sub.4 (KTP) crystals. Other types of nonlinear optical device crystals can also be used such as …

The Sporting News named Michael Eisner the fifth most powerful figure in sports this past year a position that seems a little low to me, but then Disney is still a novice in SportsWorld. Mode Locked Laser Diode In A High Power Solid State Regenerative Amplifier And Mount Mechanism Div, Peter Delfyett
UCF Patents
A mode locked as a seed source for a solid state regenerative amplifier system is disclosed. The system includes components for forming an external cavity laser with a semiconductor amplifier, exciting and mode locking the cavity laser to emit optical pulses with a linearly time varying optical frequency, collecting and collimating the optical pulses, isolating the optical pulses and amplifying the optical pulses for a selected application. The selected applications include but are not limited to medical imaging, fuel diagnostics, ultrafast spectroscopic measurements, network synchronization, distributed optical clock network, electro-optic sampling, timing Jitter reduction, a source for inducing nonlinear optical …

Energy Efficiency For Florida Educational Facilities: The 1996 Energy Survey Of Florida Schools, Florida Solar Energy Center, Danny Parker
Energy Efficiency For Florida Educational Facilities: The 1996 Energy Survey Of Florida Schools, Florida Solar Energy Center, Danny Parker
FSEC Energy Research Center®
A detailed survey of energy use and related physical and operational characteristics of Florida's public schools has been completed. A mailed survey instrument was sent to all 2,512 schools throughout the state in March 1996. A total of 1, 298 surveys were returned -- a response rate of approximately 52%. Of these some 680 provided matching utility data. The survey data was analyzed to create a school energy use profile as well as to identify characteristics that may influence efficiency. Based on our findings, the total annual energy cost for the Florida school system totaled $205 million in 1995. As …

At long last the peculiar dance that has been the Orlando Magic coaching search has ended with the personable and hard-nosed Chuck Daly being named the new head coach of this team which is still in search of an identity. Whether or not Chuck can accomplish this formidable task remains to be seen, and if he can not, the explanation will be simple. He will be declared too old for the job.

I am not sure if it's the travel I've been doing with its cumulative jet lag, some new peculiar alignment of the planets associated with the recent departure from San Diego, or just a simple coincidence, but this past couple of weeks in sports world has left my head spinning. Not surprising is the fact that many of these developments have come out of Florida, a state that seems to be rivaling California these days as the off-center of the universe. One theory has it that it's all related to Disney or the rockets fired from Cape Canaveral.
