Monolithic Integrated Active Semiconductor Optical Waveguides For 1xn Interconnect Switch., Patrick Wa, Xuesong Dong
Monolithic Integrated Active Semiconductor Optical Waveguides For 1xn Interconnect Switch., Patrick Wa, Xuesong Dong
UCF Patents
The present invention provides an active semiconductor optical switch for a 1xN interconnect switch having an input light channel, a plurality of output light channels, and a steering section coupled between the input and output channels. The steering section selectively directs an input light signal from the input light channel to an M number of the plurality of output light channels, where M ranges from one to the total number of output light channels of the plurality. The steering section includes transversely-spaced first and second elongate electrical contacts and an elongate slab waveguide extending therebetween. The slab waveguide is formed …

Here it is not even Memorial Day the traditional first marker in the baseball pennant races and the talk of a baseball strike is already in the air. What a lovely thought as spring moves on towards summer. Last week the news came that Donald Fehr and other Player's Association executives have been telling players to prepare themselves for a possible strike.

On Tuesday I was listening to the "Jim Rome Show" while driving into the campus and I heard a painful and astounding interview with Sheldon Kennedy. As some of you will remember Kennedy was the NHL player for the Boston Bruins who revealed in late 1996 that as a young boy and then young man he was subject to repeated sexual abuse by his hockey coach Graham James.

Which is more important, the team or the individual? A rather simple question which seemingly should have a simple and easy answer. Of course not all team sports are purely team sports. Some team sports are as much or more individual sports than team sports. The mix varies. Some team sports are only marginally so. This can confuse the issue.

In the Final Four that concluded yesterday in San Antonio basketball with a retro look graced the hardwood court (or was it some synthetic composite) for the first time in years. Those who have watched the University of Connecticut glide with precision to their undefeated season and NCAA Championship have been treated to a brand of basketball emphasizing team play, sharp cuts and passes, and a group of women who play with great intensity and joy.

Simple fenestration systems, for the purpose of this paper, are those whose solar heat gain and visible transmittance performances can be accurately simulated using the Window 4 or 5 programs developed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Complex fenestrations are everything else, including obscure or "privacy" glazing, corrugated or otherwise complex patterned glazing, curved, bent, or domed glazing, fritted glazing, glass blocks, glass fiber reinforced plastic daylighting panels, and glazings with internal or attached shading systems of a variety of types. The latter include exterior awnings and overhangs, attached exterior shade screens and shutters (including roll-up shutters), between-the-panes shades, including …

Method And Apparatus For Decoupled Thermo-Photocatalytic Pollution Control, Nazim Muradov, Eric Martin, Ali Raissi
Method And Apparatus For Decoupled Thermo-Photocatalytic Pollution Control, Nazim Muradov, Eric Martin, Ali Raissi
UCF Patents
A new method for design and scale-up of photocatalytic and thermocatalytic processes is disclosed. The method is based on optimizing photoprocess energetics by decoupling of the process energy efficiency from the DRE for target contaminants. The technique is applicable to photo-thermocatalytic reactor design and scale-up. At low irradiance levels, the method is based on the implementation of low pressure drop biopolymeric and synthetic polymeric support for titanium dioxide and other band-gap media. At high irradiance levels, the method utilizes multifunctional metal oxide aerogels and other media within a novel rotating fluidized particle bed reactor.

New Architecture For Heterogeneous Real-Time Simulation, Mandar Anil Mathure
New Architecture For Heterogeneous Real-Time Simulation, Mandar Anil Mathure
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This thesis investigates a new architecture for modeling and simulating complex distributed real-time systems. Modeling adequately a large distributed real time system may involve, due to its complexity, several different theoretical vehicles such as queuing theory, finite state machines, and others. Currently there are no software tools, which would offer combining such heterogeneous features into a single comprehensive simulation environment.
This study involves integrating 3 tools, SES/workbench, an offline simulator using queuing theory as its modeling discipline, ObjecTime as a real-time simulator based on finite state machines as its modeling discipline, and VxWorks real-time kernel used for free modeling in …
