The Design Of An Internal Resource Allocation Model For Use In Higher Education, Ann Clark
The Design Of An Internal Resource Allocation Model For Use In Higher Education, Ann Clark
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A computer model has been developed for the purpose of allocating funds, by department, within a university. This model categorizes each class as one of three types -- lecture, problem solving, or laboratory. A standard class size is assigned to each type -- 40, 25, and 10 respectively. Combining the previous years head count for each class with the credit-hour value of each class, a faculty position count for every department is generated.
Administrative positions, staff positions, operating expense, and operating capital funds are calculated using various combinations of factors involving student credit hours, faculty positions, and class type. Factors …

A Policy Analysis Of The Legal Aspects Of Teaching The Handicapped Child In Physical Education, Ronald K. Hirst
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Within the last decade, handicapped students were routinely excluded from public schools (Cintron, 1983). Federal and state law now guarantee these children a free, appropriate public education. It is the task of school administrators to develop programs and policy to insure the rights of handicapped children. The goal of this research is to present a legal perspective for the teaching of handicapped children in physical education and offer specific recommendations for the successful implementation of educational programs for the handicapped. A policy analysis was performed with regards to the legal aspects of teaching the handicapped child in physical education with …

Sampling Rate Conversion As Applied To Speech, Terry E. Tanzey
Sampling Rate Conversion As Applied To Speech, Terry E. Tanzey
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
There are several different ways to perform sampling rate conversion. Two methods for sampling rate conversion are discussed in this paper. The first is the interpolator method (ideal) which uses the interpolation formula. The word “ideal” is used in the sense that given other forms of interpolation, the most accurate results are achieved by using the interpolation formula. Given samples of bandlimited analog signal taken at a rate at least twice the Nyquist frequency, it is possible to reconstruct the original analog signal by using the interpolation formula. The second is the traditional way of sampling rate conversion, which is …

The Effects Of Magnetic Flux On Suspended Particles In Seawater, Mohammed A. Nehme
The Effects Of Magnetic Flux On Suspended Particles In Seawater, Mohammed A. Nehme
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A study was conducted to investigate the effect of magnetic devices on the precipitates in a condenser’s tubes when seawater is used as cooling water. This test was necessary to evaluate these devices as possible replacements for conventional methods of water treatment. In the test program, a small condenser was operated with conditions similar to utility condensers. This condenser was modified to include twelve tubes. The inlet water box was divided to provide for two parallel magnetic water treatment streams, and one control untreated water stream for comparison purposes. With and without the use of a magnetic device, the chemical …
Fiber Optic Temperature Sensors For A Large Electric Power Generator, Daniel A. Lester
Fiber Optic Temperature Sensors For A Large Electric Power Generator, Daniel A. Lester
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Fiber optic temperature sensors are excellent candidates for monitoring the temperature along the stator windings of a large electric power generator. Unlike thermocouple thermometers, they are immune to the effects of strong magnetic fields which are present in all power generators. Several different point and line sensors have been evaluated in their ability to resolve temperature and temperature distribution (respectively), as well as their compatibility with the generator environment. The sensor must function inside the generator for long periods of time (up to 25 years) without benefit of recalibration. This constraint has required us to devise methods by which the …
The Quantity Of Stormwater Entering The Drainage Wells Of Orlando, Florida, James M. Mcbee
The Quantity Of Stormwater Entering The Drainage Wells Of Orlando, Florida, James M. Mcbee
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
An extensive literature survey revealed there have been no in-depth studies of the quantity of water entering Orlando area drainage wells. Previous values ranging from 30 to 85 MGD were based on water supply withdrawal information or gross drainage area estimates. This paper presents a detailed study of the quantity of water entering 208 drainage wells in the Orlando Ubran Stormwater Management Manual (OUSWMM) area. Extrapolation of results to the remaining wells in Orange County is discussed briefly. Field experiments on one 20 in drainage well yielded a mathematical relationship that was reasonable for estimating acceptance rates for drainage wells …

Evaluation Of Percolation Ponds For Design And Operation, David A. Baar
Evaluation Of Percolation Ponds For Design And Operation, David A. Baar
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Land application of domestic wastewater effluent by rapid rate infiltration (i.e., percolation ponds) is a very successful and cost-effective method for wastewater management. Municipal percolation pond systems have been successfully operated in the United States for about 100 years. The disposal concept depends on a relatively high rate of secondary wastewater effluent infiltration into the soil by rapid percolation, either vertically or horizontally, away from the application surface area. This study was accomplished to determine infiltration rates at two working percolation pond systems and the variability of these rates, to compare the operating results with the initial design, and to …

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A Gold code sequence generator suitable for use in a code division multiple access spread spectrum communication application is designed. A dual, single return shift register configuration is used to generate Gold code sequences. The code sequences are generated by the mod-2 addition of two linear maximal length pseudo-random noise codes, each of which corresponds to a sixth-order primitive polynomial. A computer model of the design is used to generate all 65 possible members of the Gold code sequence family. A tabulation of all sequences and their initial condition “keys” is provided, along with a designation as to which code …
I. The Use Of Polyethers As Phase Transfer Catalysts For The Fluoroalkoxylation Of Halogenated Aromatic And Heteroaromatic Systems Ii. The Grignard Addition And Sodium Cyanoborohydride Reduction Of Arylchloropropeniminium Salts, Martin A.M. Moebus
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This research addresses two distinct areas of synthetic organic chemistry: the use of phase transfer catalysts for the fluoroalkoxylation of activated haloaromatic and haloheteroaromatic systems, as well as the Grignard addition and sodium cyanoborohydride reduction of aryl chloropropeniminium salts. In Part I of this research, a number of macrocyclic- and linear polytethers were studied as phase transfer catalysts in the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of haloaromitc systems. The most effective catalyst was determined to be poly(ethylene glycol)-8000 and the reaction conditions were optimized for this catalyst. Subsequently isomer reactivity, effects of activating groups, effects of leaving groups, and nucleophiles were studied …
Dipstk-A Process Control Language, Charles C. Strange
Dipstk-A Process Control Language, Charles C. Strange
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Process control languages are generally complex and machine-oriented. Their use requires a high degree of skill, not only in process control knowledge, but also in the programming. On one extreme, control programs are written in assembler language. This is a time-consuming process and the high investment is tailored to a specific application. The resulting programs are difficult to communicate between the programmer and the user. On the other extreme, recent attempts have used high-level languages, i.e., FORTRAN, but these still require assembly-level supplements. In general, only the programmers know what the program does. Thus, a void exists between the programmer …

Synergistic Effects In Bimetallic Hydrogenation Catalysts, Kathleen L. Mcintyre
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Mono and bimetallic catalysts of varying composition were prepared in order to examine any synergistic effect that may occur by mixing metals on a support. The test reactions were hydrogenation of 1, 3-butadiene and piperylene, a mixture of similar boiling 5-carbon olefins. Catalysts containing ruthenium and rhodium displayed some synergistic effects when supported on silica gel and 13X molecular sieves. The use of 5A molecular sieves as a support was used to examine the feasibility of selective hydrogenation as a separation tool for the piperylene mixture.
The Effects Of Criterion Contamination And Deficiency On Predictor Validity And Validity Generalization, Cheryl L. Pavlick
The Effects Of Criterion Contamination And Deficiency On Predictor Validity And Validity Generalization, Cheryl L. Pavlick
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this experiment is to examine one previously untested premise of the validity generalization model proposed by Schmidt and Hunter on test validity. The sample consisted of 307 subjects who were tested on measures constructed to be examples of contaminated, deficient, relevant and ultimate criteria. These criteria were correlated to a predictor, student GPA. The predictor-criteria relationship was observed over various sample sizes ranging from n = 25 to n = 300. The validity coefficients were hypothesized to change over increasing sample sizes in the same pattern as the other artifacts from Schmidt and Hunter's validity generalization model. …
