The 21st century workforce is very different from the workforce of our predecessors. With the rise in automation and technology there are new demands that are being placed on employers to produce goods that are faster, more personalized, and more accessible. In order to meet these demands, this generation of employees must have a skillset that complements these demands. This skillset includes communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity (4C) skills. The problem of practice addressed in this dissertation is the lack of 4C skills among students currently in the K-12 education system, and the lack of opportunities students have to …
Supporting Prekindergarten Teachers Through Appropriate Professional Development Practices, Catherine Twyman
Supporting Prekindergarten Teachers Through Appropriate Professional Development Practices, Catherine Twyman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of practice that this dissertation in practice addresses is the creation of a professional development model designed to assist voluntary prekindergarten (VPK) teachers and directors with the implementation of the 2011 Early Learning and Developmental Standards for Four-Year-Olds; specifically the mathematical thinking benchmark. Because the standards serve as a planning guide to assist teachers and directors of VPK children in the attainment of skills required by the end of their prekindergarten school year, it is important that those utilizing the Standards have a concrete understanding of their components and how to use them as the foundation for all …
The Experiences Of School Leaders Who Promote Achievement Among Students With Disabilities, Eric Wells
The Experiences Of School Leaders Who Promote Achievement Among Students With Disabilities, Eric Wells
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Stagnant outcomes for students with disabilities has resulted in an era where results-driven accountability is emerging as the driving force for special education leadership. Students who receive special education services significantly lag behind their non-disabled peers in their performance on required statewide, standardized assessments. The achievement gap between students with disabilities and their non-disabled peers is significant and pervasive. School leadership is central to school performance (Waters, Marzano, & McNulty, 2003). Very few researchers have investigated that experience as it relates to high achievement for students with disabilities. Yet, policy in the field has shifted to emphasize outcomes for students …

An Inconclusive Truth: An Evaluation Of Speleothem Evidence For Climate Change As A Driver Of Ancient Maya Culture Change, Benjamin Goldblatt
An Inconclusive Truth: An Evaluation Of Speleothem Evidence For Climate Change As A Driver Of Ancient Maya Culture Change, Benjamin Goldblatt
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As anthropologists who focus their scholarly attention on the past, archaeologists are interested in examining past changes in human cultures, which can include investigating the role(s) of climatic conditions in shaping them. Paleoclimatology offers the possibility of reconstructing past climates and demonstrating their variability over time, potentially contributing a great deal to archaeology. However, while paleoclimatology may lead to new discoveries about the human past, it may also lead to new errors in interpreting it. Cave speleothems are sources of paleoclimatic data that have recently attracted attention in Mesoamerican archaeology, particularly in studies of the Maya region. In order to …
Don't Let The World Rot: Anarchism, Hardcore Music, And Counterculture, Pearson Bolt
Don't Let The World Rot: Anarchism, Hardcore Music, And Counterculture, Pearson Bolt
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Hardcore music is intrinsically anarchistic. The hardcore music scene represents a radical departure from contemporary society. Rejecting the materialism, militarism, and hedonism of the mainstream music scene—and, by extension, modern culture—hardcore music presents an alternative lifestyle rooted in solidarity, equality, and liberty. Indeed, the culture of the hardcore scene approaches a transitive, nomadic model of an anarchistic commune built on resistance as a way of life. In this study, I identified the ways music and lyrics craft attitudes and environments for revolt and rebellion, cultivating critical thinking and disobedience in equal measures. In order to understand the hardcore community, I …
Interval Edge-Colorings Of Graphs, Austin Foster
Interval Edge-Colorings Of Graphs, Austin Foster
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A proper edge-coloring of a graph G by positive integers is called an interval edge-coloring if the colors assigned to the edges incident to any vertex in G are consecutive (i.e., those colors form an interval of integers). The notion of interval edge-colorings was first introduced by Asratian and Kamalian in 1987, motivated by the problem of finding compact school timetables. In 1992, Hansen described another scenario using interval edge-colorings to schedule parent-teacher conferences so that every person's conferences occur in consecutive slots. A solution exists if and only if the bipartite graph with vertices for parents and teachers, and …
Access And Student Success: An Examination Of The Perceptions And Experiences Of First-Year Seminar Professionals At Florida Historically Black Colleges And Universities., Amanda Wilkerson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The focus of this research was to understand the lived experiences and working perceptions of Florida HBCU first-year seminar professionals. Much empirical work has been done to examine the experiences of students transitioning into the college environment. In contrast, there is little work that specifically looks at the professionals that service first-year students within a minority serving context, specifically Historically Black Colleges and Universities. As a result, the findings of this study suggest that Florida HBCU first-year seminar professionals are active partners in the scholastic success of its freshman students.

Electrical Parasitic Bandwidth Limitations Of Oxide-Free Lithographic Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers, Xu Yang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Nowadays, Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) are the most popular optical sources in short-reach data communications. In the commercial oxide VCSEL technology, an oxide aperture is created inside resonant cavity in realizing good mode and current confinement, however, high electrical resistance comes along with forming the oxide aperture and the electrical parasitic bandwidth becomes the main limitation in modulation speed. In this report, electrical bandwidths of oxide-free lithographic VCSELs have been studied along with their general lasing properties. Due to the new ways of fabricating the aperture, record low resistances have been achieved in oxide-free lithographic VCSELs with various sizes, while …
Comparing The Variational Approximation And Exact Solutions Of The Straight Unstaggered And Twisted Staggered Discrete Solitons, Daniel Marulanda
Comparing The Variational Approximation And Exact Solutions Of The Straight Unstaggered And Twisted Staggered Discrete Solitons, Daniel Marulanda
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations (DNSL) have been used to provide models of a variety of physical settings. An application of DNSL equations is provided by Bose-Einstein condensates which are trapped in deep optical-lattice potentials. These potentials effectively splits the condensate into a set of droplets held in local potential wells, which are linearly coupled across the potential barriers between them [3]. In previous works, DNLS systems have also been used for symmetric on-site-centered solitons [11]. A few works have constructed different discrete solitons via the variational approximation (VA) and have explored their regions for their solutions [11, 12]. Exact solutions …

These types of advanced classes not only prepare students for college but also allow them to earn college credit through participation in courses of college level rigor while still in high school. However, the …
A Correlational Study Of Emerging Modalities Of Developmental Education And Learning Styles In A Florida State College., John Britt
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Developmental education course modalities in Florida were drastically changed in 2013 with the passage of Senate Bill 1720. These courses can no longer be offered in a traditional 16-week format as other postsecondary courses are offered. Developmental education courses must now be offered in a compressed, contextualized, or corequisite instruction modality; or direct enrollment into a gateway course (1720-Education, 2013). This changes the student's experience in the courses. This research was framed by Kolb's experiential learning theory, which states that people learn through their experiences (Kolb, 1984). Chi-Square correlational tests were conducted to examine the relationship between students' learning types …
Classification Of Silicone-Based Personal And Condom Lubricants Using Dart-Tofms, Lauren Harvey
Classification Of Silicone-Based Personal And Condom Lubricants Using Dart-Tofms, Lauren Harvey
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Sexual lubricants are used to enable sexual encounters. There are different types of sexual lubricants such as water-based, oil-based, and silicone-based. They come pre-applied to condoms and separately in bottles as personal lubricants. Although sexual lubricants are intended for consensual use, they are also unfortunately used during the commission of sexual assaults. The analysis of sexual lubricants facilitates sexual assault investigations. With the increased usage of condoms in sexual assault cases, the potential of collected DNA evidence in each case is reduced. In the absence of biological evidence, the presence of sexual lubricants after a sexual assault can provide an …

The second is chemical reaction of order $m$ with a decay of order …
Improved Interpolation In Sph In Cases Of Less Smooth Flow, Oddny Brun
Improved Interpolation In Sph In Cases Of Less Smooth Flow, Oddny Brun
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
We introduced a method presented in Information Field Theory (IFT) [Abramovich et al., 2007] to improve interpolation in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) in cases of less smooth flow. The method makes use of wavelet theory combined with B-splines for interpolation. The idea is to identify any jumps a function may have and then reconstruct the smoother segments between the jumps. The results of our work demonstrated superior capability when compared to a particular challenging SPH application, to better conserve jumps and more accurately interpolate the smoother segments of the function. The results of our work also demonstrated increased computational efficiency …
Hybrid Integrated Photonic Platforms And Devices, Jeffrey Chiles
Hybrid Integrated Photonic Platforms And Devices, Jeffrey Chiles
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Integrated photonics has the potential to revolutionize optical systems by achieving drastic reductions in their size, weight and power. Remote spectroscopy, free-space communications and high-speed telecommunications are critical applications that would benefit directly from these advancements. However, many such applications require extremely wide spectral bandwidths, leading to significant challenges in their integration. The choice of integrated platform influences the optical transparency and functionality which can be ultimately achieved. In this work, several new platforms and technologies have been developed to meet these needs. First, the silicon-on-lithium-niobate (SiLN) platform is discussed, on which the first compact, integrated electro-optic modulator in the …
Monolithically Integrated Inp-Based Unidirectional Circulators Utilizing Non-Hermiticity And Nonlinearity, Parinaz Aleahmad
Monolithically Integrated Inp-Based Unidirectional Circulators Utilizing Non-Hermiticity And Nonlinearity, Parinaz Aleahmad
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The need to integrate critical optical components on a single chip has been an ongoing quest in both optoelectronics and optical communication systems. Among the possible devices, elements supporting non-reciprocal transmission are of great interest for applications where signal routing and isolation is required. In this respect, breaking reciprocity is typically accomplished via Faraday rotation through appropriate magneto-optical arrangements. Unfortunately, standard light emitting optoelectronic materials like for example III-V semiconductors, lack magneto-optical properties and hence cannot be directly used in this capacity. To address these issues, a number of different tactics have been attempted in the last few years. These …
Internal Degrees Of Freedom And Spin Transitions In Single Molecule Magnets, James Atkinson
Internal Degrees Of Freedom And Spin Transitions In Single Molecule Magnets, James Atkinson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis covers a range of work detailing the transitions between spin eigenstates in molecular magnet systems. Broadly speaking, these transitions can be divided into two kinds: Those that involve a the tunneling of spin through a potential barrier to a resonant state on the other side, a phenomenon known as quantum tunneling of magnetization, and those that occur through the absorption or emission of a photon. In this latter case, the energy of the photon must match the difference between two eigenstates with a difference in angular momentum of ?. We will detail research performed on single molecule magnets, …
Optical Parity Time Metasurface Structures, Ahmed El Halawany
Optical Parity Time Metasurface Structures, Ahmed El Halawany
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the last few years, optics has witnessed the emergence of two fields namely metasurfaces and parity-time (PT) symmetry. Optical metasurfaces are engineered structures that provide unique responses to electromagnetic waves, absent in natural materials. Optical metasurfaces are known for their reduced dimensionality i.e. subwavelength and consequently lower losses are anticipated. The other paradigm is the PT symmetric materials, also known as photonic synthetic matter. PT symmetry has emerged from quantum mechanics when a new class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian quantum systems was highlighted to have real eigenvalues, hence eradicating Hermiticity of the Hamiltonian as an essential condition to the existence …
