Chinese Masculinities During The Maoist Era: Representations Of Model Men, Daniel L. Izadirad Mr.
Chinese Masculinities During The Maoist Era: Representations Of Model Men, Daniel L. Izadirad Mr.
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
This thesis analyzes male characters from Maoist era movies, novels, and posters to argue that the Importance of Wen masculinity, a man’s intellectual and artistic talents, was downplayed, and even feminized while the importance of Wu masculinity, a man’s martial and athletic talents, was increased and encouraged as these forms of media came under increasingly stringent regulation from the Chinese Communist Party. This thesis examines sources from 1949-1976 dividing them into three periods: the Early People’s Republic (1949-1965), the Early Cultural Revolution (1966-1969), and the Late Cultural Revolution (1970-1976). Each chapter studies revolutionary protagonists and counterrevolutionary antagonists and explores how …

A large body of research has been devoted to understanding evidence-based interventions (EBI) and their effectiveness in the juvenile justice system. This systematic review examines three commonly used interventions used to reduce recidivism among adolescents involved in the juvenile justice system: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), and Multisystemic Therapy (MST). The systematic review analyzes findings from prior studies evaluating the impact of CBT, FFT, and MST on recidivism among adjudicated youth. The sample includes 23 peer-reviewed studies that utilized samples of adjudicated youth in the United States and were published after 2010. Findings revealed CBT as the most …
Sars-Cov-2 Infection History Is Positively Correlated With Frequency Of Psychotic Symptoms In Schizophrenia, Jackson D. Beecher
Sars-Cov-2 Infection History Is Positively Correlated With Frequency Of Psychotic Symptoms In Schizophrenia, Jackson D. Beecher
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Previous work in human and animal studies has implicated aberrant insular cortex (IC) activity in the pathophysiology of hallucinations. Of note, the IC overlaps with the olfactory cortex (OC), a region of the brain that receives extensive projections from sensory neurons of the olfactory epithelium. SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is a highly infectious coronavirus with a demonstrated ability to cause anosmia; the virus does this by colocalizing with and damaging support cells in the olfactory epithelium, ultimately leading to alterations in olfactory receptor cell signaling to the OC. Given the overlap between OC and IC, we asked the question of whether COVID-19 …

Investigating The Potential Impact Of External Disadvantages And Self-Doubt On Task Performance, Eric E. Haseman Jr, Archelie Belvu, Mariya Bendus
High Impact Practices Student Showcase Spring 2024
Past literature suggests that listening to music while taking a memory recall test can hinder memory recall ability, with music serving as an external disadvantage in the context of a memory recall task. Past literature also suggests that having low levels of self-efficacy can hinder memory recall ability, with self-doubt serving as an internal disadvantage in the context of a memory recall task. Our project sought to investigate the potential effect that intersecting disadvantages can have on an individual's task performance. We took a convenience sample of 36 participants and randomly sorted them into one of six conditions: a non-music …

High Impact Practices Student Showcase Spring 2024
My inspiration was from my IDS 4939 course where we had to present about a topic that we are devoted towards. It could be conveyed through PowerPoint, video, etc. but for me I chose to write a research paper about the indiscriminate circumstances that influence Sexual Abusers behavior, and how it profoundly directs their course of action. After an endless time spent on gaining data, this sensitive topic sent me to a black hole of no return. With boundless sources of support with the help of the internet I was feeling guilty as to what I could do with this. …

Disability Representation In Contemporary Playwriting, Caroline Hull
Disability Representation In Contemporary Playwriting, Caroline Hull
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
Is it possible for a playwright to authentically capture the disabled experience without it becoming privy to stereotypes or utilized as a catalyst for the plot? The thesis aims to challenge the prevalent notion that making the disability intrinsic to a theatrical plot is essential for authentic representation, and instead asserts that authentic portrayal of the disabled experience can exist independently of making the disability a central plot device. To support this claim, In Chapter One, I engage with relevant work in the field of playwriting and narrative media studies, such as the workshop "Inaccessible: Writing Plays with Characters who …

Molybdenum- And Tungsten-Based Vapor-Phase Materials Growth: Enhancing Understanding And Diversity Of Processes And Precursors, Taylor M. Currie
Molybdenum- And Tungsten-Based Vapor-Phase Materials Growth: Enhancing Understanding And Diversity Of Processes And Precursors, Taylor M. Currie
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
Molybdenum- and tungsten-based materials, such as pure metal, metal oxides, and metal nitrides, have been used extensively in electronics, catalysis, photovoltaics, and sensing applications. Vapor-phase growth techniques, including chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD), are commonly used to synthesize thin films of such Mo- and W-based materials. CVD and ALD growth of thin films are both highly dependent on process parameters including the properties of the precursors used, namely their volatility, thermal stability, and reactivity, which can dictate the mechanisms of growth and ultimate compositions of the resulting materials. Herein, we aim to better understand and diversify …

Considering how the evolution of integrated circuits made possible the revolution of silicon-based computers, …
Advancements In Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance, Multipole Moments, And Lie Group Proprieties, Zhichen Liu
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
To accurately solve the general nuclear spin state function in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), a rotation wave approach was employed, allowing the reference frame to rotate in sync with the oscillating magnetic field. The spin state system was analogously treated as a Rubik's Cube, ensuring the diagonalization of only the time-dependent part of the state function. Although Gottfried's equation (1966) aligns with transitions between specific spin states m and m′, his second rotation contradicts the conservation of angular momentum, resulting in inaccuracies for spin states with initial phase shifts or entangled states. Contrarily, Schwinger (1937) efficiently computed the coefficients for …

Trauma And Dynamic Needs: Examining The Role Of Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces) On Changes In Youth Needs While In Residential Placement, Ashley Lockwood
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation 2023-2024
The prevalence of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) for youth in residential facilities is greater than youth in the general population and those in other justice settings. Despite recent advancements in the literature on ACEs and treatment for justice-involved youth, an expansion of this inquiry continues to be warranted. The Risk, Needs, and Responsivity framework has not conceptualized the influence of trauma across youth sex and race/ethnicity in rehabilitation efforts. Therefore, the current study has two primary objectives: (1) to explore the presence of ACEs in the lives of youth in residential facilities, and (2) examine the association between ACEs and …

Clostridioides Difficile: Identification Of Rival Organisms & Evaluation Of Non-Antibiotic Treatment Implementation, Justin Davis
Clostridioides Difficile: Identification Of Rival Organisms & Evaluation Of Non-Antibiotic Treatment Implementation, Justin Davis
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Clostrioides difficile is a common cause of nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections. Patients receiving antibiotic treatment experience dysbiosis of gut microbiota, and C. difficile, normally held in check by the various other organisms, takes this opportunity to propagate. Symptoms of infection generally include diarrhea, colitis, dehydration, and fever. Understanding that C. difficile generally only causes illness when it is the dominant bacterium (i.e. when growth is relatively unchecked by other microbes), it is appropriate to investigate potential competitive organisms that may be introduced after antibiotic courses or during active C. difficile infection to effectively displace it. Fecal samples from the University …
