Display To Camera Calibration Techniques, Philip Gatt Jan 1984

Display To Camera Calibration Techniques, Philip Gatt

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

In today's technology, with digitally controlled optic sensing devices, there exists a need for a fast and accurate calibration procedure. Typical display devices and optic fiber bundles are plagued with inaccuracies. There are many sources of error such as delay, time constants, pixel distortion, pixel bleeding, and noise. The calibration procedure must measure these inaccuracies, and compute a set of correction factors. These correction factors are then used in real time to alter the command data, such that the intended pixels are correctly commanded. This paper discusses a calibration procedure, which employs a special matrix inverse algorithm. This algorithm, which …

A 'User-Friendly' Robot Operator Training Aid, Donald A. Washburn Jan 1984

A 'User-Friendly' Robot Operator Training Aid, Donald A. Washburn

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

There will be an increasing demand for robot operators, since more companies are using robots in production and material handling. In order to train these would-be operators, a 'user-friendly' robot operator training aid was developed. This aid helps the trainee learn how to program a robot using on-line programming, and the trainee also obtains valuable hands-on experience. Since this training aid is user-friendly and has safety features, it requires little or no previous experience with robots or computers and minimal supervision. With this training, the would-be operators will acquire a basic understanding of how they can apply this experience to …

Gain Control Of A Time-Varying Signal Using A Multiplaying Dac, Yassin Movassaghi Jan 1984

Gain Control Of A Time-Varying Signal Using A Multiplaying Dac, Yassin Movassaghi

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The design of a high speed circuit accepting a bipolar analog signal with a 3 db bandwidth of 20 MHZ and an eight bit unipolar gain control signal is presented in this thesis. The system produces the product of these two signals at a rate of one digital byte every 25 nsec. At the heart of the system are two multiplying digital to analog converters (DACs) operating in parallel. The circuit design was based on a statistically validated model for a multiplying DAC. This circuit could be used for controlling the intensity of each picture element (i.e. pixel) for many …

The milling machine axes are driven by three stepper motors under the control of the Apple microcomputer and the ISAAC data acquisition module. An interactive part design program using high resolution color graphics has been developed. It employs lines, circles and points to define the geometry for the part. The design is entered at the CRT and stored as a CAM database on the user disc. Once the design is complete it is postprocessed and …

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The combination of artificial intelligence and robotics led to more flexibility and powerful mobile robot applications. The robot and its environment were simulated with a microcomputer to gather statistical information. An application was demonstrated in the laboratory with a mobile robot. The robot recognized an obstacle in its path and generated the necessary changes in its environment so that it could successfully complete a required task.

Pilot Study Of Applicability Of A Generic Microprocessor Assembly Language, Joseph H. Bartlett Jan 1984

Pilot Study Of Applicability Of A Generic Microprocessor Assembly Language, Joseph H. Bartlett

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this investigation is to research the utility of a standardized generic microprocessor assembly language. More precisely, use of a generic language implementation on a given microprocessor and its effect on programmer productivity will be investigated. Programmer productivity will be scored in terms of an inverse function of the time taken to complete a programming task correctly. Shorter times imply better programmer productivity and longer times imply the opposite

The Development Of An Automated Production System, Brian M. Cardinal Jan 1984

The Development Of An Automated Production System, Brian M. Cardinal

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This paper describes the development of an automated production system recently completed by the Martin Marietta Aerospace Division, Orlando, Florida, for the assembly, inspection and test of printed circuit boards. The project began in January 1981 with the purpose of increasing the then existing production capability and to create the building block for the total automation of the printed circuit board assembly area of the plant in Ocala, Florida. The system was implemented using a combination of off the shelf equipment modified and integrated to create a single production system. The system employs much of the new production philosophies tailored …

A Comparison Of The Subtests Of The Gesell School Readiness Screening Test As Predictors Of Reading Achievement, Dolores W. Sapp Jan 1984

A Comparison Of The Subtests Of The Gesell School Readiness Screening Test As Predictors Of Reading Achievement, Dolores W. Sapp

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The major purpose of this study was to determine which subtests of the Gesell School Readiness Screening Test are the best predictors of reading achievement. The procedure used was a stepwise multiple regression to determine which subtests were the best predictors of achievement for each reading section of the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills. Seventy-two students from four schools were evaluated for this study. Three testing instruments were administered to these students. They were the Gesell test, the Otis-Lennon test, and the reading subtests of the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills. The Gesell test consisted of eight subtests: Cubes, Name, …

An Evaluation Of The Involvement Component Of The Educational Planning And Resource Management System (Eprms) In The Orange County Florida Schools, Michael E. Mekdeci Jan 1984

An Evaluation Of The Involvement Component Of The Educational Planning And Resource Management System (Eprms) In The Orange County Florida Schools, Michael E. Mekdeci

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the study was to determine if the Educational Planning and Resource Management System (EPRMS), implemented by the Orange County Public Schools, increased parent and/or teacher involvement and communication in the school level decision making process. The study surveyed parents, teachers, and principals about their perception of the communication and involvement at their school during 1982-83 and 1983-84 (the year EPRMS was fully implemented). It was assumed that any increase in communication and/or involvement would be due to the Educational Planning and Resource Management System. A questionnaire was developed after an extensive literature review and input by a …

Image Analysis And Segmentation Based On The Circular Pipeline Video Processor, Jon M. Albritton Jan 1984

Image Analysis And Segmentation Based On The Circular Pipeline Video Processor, Jon M. Albritton

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Visual inspection of printed circuit boards has generally depended on human inspectors. However, a system has been developed which allows for automated visual inspection using robotics and modern image processing techniques. This paper first introduces automatic visual inspection processes, overviews the Automatic Board Assembly, Inspection and Test (ABAIT) system, reviews image processing concepts and describes the Circular Pipeline Video Processor (CPVP). Image data from the CPVP is analyzed and an investigation into alternate segmentation algorithms to identify circuit board features is presented. The relative performance of these algorithms is compared conclusions drawn.

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This report discusses research which was conducted in two areas: the study of aromatic nucleophilic fluoroalkoxylation assisted via cationic phase transfer catalysis and the study of unsymmetrical vinamidinium salts and their reactions with organometallic reagents.

Sodium alkoxides have been successfully used to fluoroalkoxylate activated halo- aryl and heteroaryl substrates under phase transfer catalysis conditions. Optimum reaction conditions incorporated tetra-n-butyl-phosphonium bromide as the catalyst and refluxing toluene as the solvent medium. Different quarternary phosphonium and arrmonium salts have been evaluated as catalysts: also, the effects of activating groups, leaving groups, and nucleophiles have been reported.

The reaction of 3-dimethylamino-3-phenyl-prop-2-en-l-ylidendimethyliminium perchlorate with …
