For many months during the year 1835 news from Fort King was anxiously awaited in Washington by the Administration and to this point the President of the United States and his Secretary of War dispatched many messages, or talks as the Indians described them; and from Fort King came back the reports from the Indian …

While at Campeachy, (1827-1838), where he served as United States consul, Dr. Henry Perrine, a native of New York City and a physician and botanist, determined to devote the remainder of his life to introducing and endeavoring to acclimatize useful tropical plants in semi-tropical Florida. The First Spanish-American War, A. H. Phinney Dec 2020

The First Spanish-American War, A. H. Phinney

Florida Historical Quarterly

This is a better title for a story of the disturbance that occurred in Florida in 1812 than the one usually given to it, viz: The Patriot War. The so-called patriots were nearly all citizens of the United States from Georgia and Tennessee. They were supported by soldiers and gunboats of the United States. They were under the orders of an agent of the United States and were financed, by the United States. That the events did not provoke a real war between Spain and this country is only explained by the fact that Spain had been drained of men …

The Occupation Of Pensacola Bay, 1689-0698, Part Ii, William Edward Dunn Dec 2020

The Occupation Of Pensacola Bay, 1689-0698, Part Ii, William Edward Dunn

Florida Historical Quarterly

There were two purposes in the coming of the Spaniards to America. One was the desire for gain; the other the hope of making Christians of the natives. Unfortunately the two conflicted. The fierce desire for gold, that led to the inhuman treatment of the Indians, for a time rendered of no avail the efforts of the priests.

The Truth Regarding "Tiger-Tail", Isabella M. Williams

Florida Historical Quarterly

Dictionaries do not agree in all things, but upon one point there is no difference of opinion: history is avowedly a recital of actual occurrences. Yet how often have we known blatant inaccuracies in historical records ; and how many times have we accepted as true some fictitious statement which was meted out to us, through the ignorance, conjecture or lack of information of some chronicler!

One of the most interesting characters in the early history of Florida was George I. F. Clarke, an Englishman. He is frequently referred to by name and reputation in American State Papers, Public Lands, especially Vol. IV containing the reports of the Land Commissioners appointed by the United States Government to pass upon land claims in Florida. Digital Power Supply Controller, Michael Gendreau Dec 2020

Digital Power Supply Controller, Michael Gendreau

Recent Advances in Real-Time Systems

This paper details the implementation of a real-time system in the context of a digital power supply controller. Attention is primarily given to the software development of the project given its relevance to the concept of a real-time system. Having said that, the need for hard deadline tasks in this system is not very evident. As discussed later, the consequences of a missed deadline for most tasks in the system should be no more than an unreliable test sequence for the device under test (DUT). However, since many concepts related to embedded real-time systems can be applied to the software …

Machine Learning And Neural Networks For Real-Time Scheduling, Adam Loree, Christy Wilhite

Recent Advances in Real-Time Systems

Using neural networks to find optimal solutions to real-time scheduling is a common technique, and there have been many different models put forth to accomplish this goal. This paper is an academic literature review of six different designs put forth that use neural networks for real-time scheduling. A comparison is done for these models which weighs the feasibility and time complexity for each one as well as identifying common themes and trends in this topic.

Florida Against Georgia: A Story Of The Boundary Dispute, Fred Cubberly Nov 2020

Florida Against Georgia: A Story Of The Boundary Dispute, Fred Cubberly

Florida Historical Quarterly

It has been said that boundary line disputes between individuals are the worst kind of quarrels, and often cause lifelong differences and even descend to heirs of original disputants. When sovereign states have boundary line questions to settle, the Supreme Court of the United States is the tribunal that settles the question, for it is in that Court alone that such questions may be litigated.
