Implementing The Computer Readability Editing System (Cres), J. Peter Kincaid

Institute for Simulation and Training

This report describes how to implement the Computer Readability Editing System (CRES). As described in a previous TAEG report (No. 83), the CRES is a writer's aid to improve the apprehensibility of technical manuals and training materials. It contains features to (1) flag uncommon words and long sentences, (2) suggest replacements for awkward words and phrases, and (3) calculate the readability grade level. The CRES is now being implemented as part of computer-based publishing systems. This report contains the computer program flow charts described in that program, a user's guide, and a programmer's guide to help potential users. This report …

Understanding The Theme Park Visitor: A Psychological Perspective, Edward J. Mayo, Lance P. Jarvis Jan 1981

Understanding The Theme Park Visitor: A Psychological Perspective, Edward J. Mayo, Lance P. Jarvis

Dick Pope Sr. Institute Publications

Psychologists have often found it useful to think of an individual's personality as consisting of three parts. Each part is a separate source of thoughts, feelings, and motivations - - and it is useful to view each part as directing an individual's behavior at different times. This psychological perspective, it seems, can be very useful to those who market the modern theme park. Its product - - the assortment of attractions it offers to potential guests - - and the way it is promoted must appeal, in one way or another, to each distinct part of a prospective visitor's personality. …

Analytically Derived Switching-Functions For Exact H-2(+) Eigenstates, W. R. Thorson, M. Kimura, J. H. Choi, S. K. Knudson Jan 1981

Analytically Derived Switching-Functions For Exact H-2(+) Eigenstates, W. R. Thorson, M. Kimura, J. H. Choi, S. K. Knudson

Faculty Bibliography 1980s

Electron translation factors (ETF's) appropriate for slow atomic collisions may be constructed using switching functions. In this paper we derive a set of switching functions for the H2+ system by an analytical "two-center decomposition" of the exact molecular eigenstates. These switching functions are closely approximated by the simple form f=bη, where η is the "angle variable" of prolate spheroidal coordinates. For given united atom angular momentum quantum numbers (l,m), the characteristic parameter blm depends only on the quantity c2=-∊R22, where ∊ is the electronic binding energy and R the internuclear distance in a.u. The resulting parameters are in excellent agreement …
