A Mini Apple Network For Apple Ii Plus Computers, Michael E. Harnage Jul 1983

A Mini Apple Network For Apple Ii Plus Computers, Michael E. Harnage

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Computer networks have become increasingly popular over the last ten years. A simple low cost Mini Apple Network that uses Apple II plus computers and Apple's Parallel Interface Cards, is presented here. The Mini Apple Network is driven by PIC DRIVER, a software program that is able to transmit an Applesoft array variable from one computer to another. Three application programs are presented. A comparison is made of the gain in execution time when one, two, and three computers are used to solve the same problem, namely Laplace's partial differential equation. An increase in gain was obtained when the number …

The Use Of Companding In Conferencing Voice Communications Systems, Jon P. Klages

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Compounded codes are used for representing voice data in digital communication systems. This thesis addresses the use of the Mu-law companding algorithm in a system optimized for conferencing. A procedure for determining the degree of compression for a variable number of conferees and design equations for implementing a table-lookup scheme using read-only-memories are presented.

The Design Of A Deep Ocean Hydrophone, Michael F. Hackathorn Jul 1983

The Design Of A Deep Ocean Hydrophone, Michael F. Hackathorn

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A design for a deep ocean hydrophone is proposed here. The hydrophone's sound sensing element is comprised of a capped end, piezoelectric cylinder. This sound sensing element is encased in an acoustic coupling fluid filled elastomeric boot. A small diameter tube communicates hydrostatic pressure from the coupling fluid to the interior of the sound sensing element for hydrostatic pressure compensation. The theoretical free field voltage sensitivity, the ratio of open circuit voltage to incident acoustic pressure, is predicted from mathematical model of the sound sensing element.

The Adult Client's Conception Of Confidentiality In The Therapeutic Relationship, Philip O. Toal Jul 1983

The Adult Client's Conception Of Confidentiality In The Therapeutic Relationship, Philip O. Toal

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The adult client's conception of confidentiality in the therapeutic relationship and the valuing of this confidentiality was examined and defined in this paper. The importance of confidentiality and its effect on the therapeutic process was explored. Many professionals in the field of mental health believe that confidentiality is a critical factor in the successful outcome of therapy (Hayt, 1977; Lowenthal, 1968; Reynolds, 1976; Tancredi & Slady, 1975). It is viewed that confidentiality is expected by clients when entering into a therapeutic relationship, and is essential in the therapeutic process. The variables that may affect the client's conception of, attitudes toward, …

Interim Report On Orlando Visitors Reactions To Universal Studios Tour Florida, Mccollum/Spielman Associates, Inc.

Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers

In 1980, prior to the completion of EPCOT, a major study was conducted to measure potential interest in visiting both, Universal Studios Tour in Orlando and EPCOT, and how these parks would impact existing attractions. The 1980 study was conducted over several months amongst 1,021 overnight visitors to Orlando, and utilized verbal descriptions and audio tapes to describe both the Universal concept and that of EPCOT. The results of the 1980 study indicated extremely high interest in both Universal and EPCOT, and strong opportunity for both attractions. However, EPCOT has since opened, creating a condition that obviously must be addressed …

The four-quarter ahead forecasts of out-of-state domestic visitor arrivals for the second quarter of 1983 through the first quarter of 1984 are presented in the graph below and also in the Table on the following page. Although fourth quarter air arrivals and subsequent 1982 totals ai-e not available at this time, these forecasts suggest that Florida visitor arrivals for 1983 will exceed estimated 1982 totals by some two million or almost six percent. As indicated in the last issue of the TOURISM BAROMETER, previous projections for 1983 were felt to be understated due to the severely depressed 1981 figures that …

The Development Of A Computer Aided Design Program For Constant Group Delay Monolithic Crystal Filters, Michael A. Robitaille Apr 1983

The Development Of A Computer Aided Design Program For Constant Group Delay Monolithic Crystal Filters, Michael A. Robitaille

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A computer program, which realizes monolithic crystal filters with constant group delay, is developed. This program analyzes and synthesizes a class of transfer functions developed by J.D. Rhodes called equidistant linear phase transfer functions. Using cascade synthesis, the program calculates the values of the inductor and capacitors of the ladder sections which realizes these functions. The ladder sections are implemented using monolithic crystal filters.
