Effects Of High Altitude Jet Aircraft On The Stratosphere, Dennis K. Bushnell Jul 1973

Effects Of High Altitude Jet Aircraft On The Stratosphere, Dennis K. Bushnell

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This paper presents a review of the basic thermal, chemical and radiation balances existing in the atmosphere and discusses the mechanisms by which jet engine exhaust products can disturb these balances. Possible effects of stratospheric pollution on plant and animal life are discussed. Methods for reducing harmful emissions through engine design modifications are outlined and current successful research programs are surveyed. The SST type aircraft is shown to be a greater threat to the environment than conventional jets because of differences in cruise altitudes. Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The recent and rapid advances in micro electronics technology has resulted in the continued and dramatic reduction in the cost and size of logic circuits used in computers and computer interfaced devices. This technology now makes it possible to purchase a sophisticated computer system and multiple terminal devices for less than $60,000. A Simplification Of Underwater Acoustic Equations, Morris G. Middleton Jan 1973

A Simplification Of Underwater Acoustic Equations, Morris G. Middleton

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This Research Report presents some of the equations of underwater acoustics that relate to the signal excess noise received by a transducer. The basic structural equation is developed, as are defining equations for each term in that equation. An analysis is performed utilizing typical values to ascertain if the elements of the structural equation can be simplified. Results delineate that several terms of that equation can be neglected while maintaining a relative high degree of accuracy.
