A Mini-Computer Based General Purpose Interactive Computer Graphics Software System, Victor M. Haddock
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This research paper presents the description of a Mini-Computer Based General Purpose Interactive Computer Graphics Software System; which has been installed at the University of Central Florida, College of Engineering PDP 11/34 computer system. This system is a simplified version of MOVIE.BYU. MOVIE.BYU is a General Purpose Interactive Computer Graphics Software System that requires a computer with a word length of at least 32-bits. The MOVIE.BYU system was developed at the Brigham Young University, Utah. Extensive modification was required in order to satisfy the PDP 11/34 FORTRAN IV compiler. In addition, the program routines have been overlayed in order to …

Chemical Treatment Of Urban Stormwater Runoff By Settling Column Studies, Paul R. Moore
Chemical Treatment Of Urban Stormwater Runoff By Settling Column Studies, Paul R. Moore
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Lake Eola, in downtown Orlando, was the subject of extensive research to determine the impact of stormwater runoff to the lake and possible management alternatives. The focus of this research was stormwater treatment by chemical coagulation followed by detention. Phosphorus was the main parameter targeted for removal. Various chemical parameters were also evaluated included: TSS, VSS, NVSS, COD, TKN, NH3, TOC, TP, Ca, As, Cd, Cu, Cr, Ni, Mg, Zn, Fe, and Pb. The chemical coagulants used for this research included: alum, ferric chloride, and lime. The study involved settling column tests for the various treatment methods to determine stormwater …

Zooplankton Abundance And Diversity In A Hydrilla Infested Central Florida Lake, Don C. Schmitz
Zooplankton Abundance And Diversity In A Hydrilla Infested Central Florida Lake, Don C. Schmitz
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Zooplankton abundance, hydrilla biomass, and physicochemical parameters were sampled for one year in a small central Florida lake. Annually, rotifers comprised most of the species collected and were the most abundant zooplankton group. Hydrilla biomass was lowest during winter and spring while orthophosphate and phtoplankton concentrations were highest. Zooplankton densities were highest when hydrilla biomass was low. Small-bodied limnetic herbivores comprised most of the zooplankton during the spring. Zooplanton abundances were lowest during summer and fall and may have been either directly or indirectly related to the hydrilla growth. Factors, such as lower phytoplankton and dissolved oxygen concentrations, possible increased …
Impact Of Highway Bridge Runoff On Adjacent Receiving Water Bodies, James E. Christopher
Impact Of Highway Bridge Runoff On Adjacent Receiving Water Bodies, James E. Christopher
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Two locations, Lake Ivanhoe and the Maitland interchange of Interstate 4, were selected to study the impact of bridge runoff on receiving water bodies. The Lake Ivanhoe location includes two similar bridges, one without scuppers and one with scuppers. The Maitland interchange site has several borr ponds which drain to Lake Lucien. Samples were collected from Lake Ivanhoe below the bridges and in the open lake away from the bridges. Also samples were collected from the east pond, west pond, and lake Lucien, at the Maitland interchange. Samples included water, sediments, plants and benthos to detect differences, if any, in …
Effects Of The Step Parent Education Program On Parenting Styles And Reported Child Behavior Problems, Patty H. Lee
Effects Of The Step Parent Education Program On Parenting Styles And Reported Child Behavior Problems, Patty H. Lee
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Three groups of parents were given a nine week parent education course using Dinkmeyer and McKay's Systematic Training for Effective Parenting. Three control groups were given no training. Pretest and posttest data were obtained from all six groups to test the hypotheses: Training with the STEP program will change parent attitudes toward a less authoritarian parenting style, and these changes will result in fewer problems reported by the parents in child behavior. Using Ernhart and Loevinger's Authoritarian Ideology Scale no significant differences in authoritarianism were found after training [F(1,5) = 2.45, p = .123]. Using McKay's Adlerian Parental Assessment of …

Preliminary Concept Development Study For A Proposed Theme Park In Mexico City, Harrison Price Company
Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers
In 1979, Companias Cuauhtemoc and Sea World, Inc. were considering the development of a major theme park complex or entertainment center in Mexico City. In late 1979, the companies jointly retained the Harrison Price Company (HPC) to evaluate the potential market support for, and to determine the economic feasibility of the project and its major parts, a large sea-life park and a major themed amusement park. The report includes the following sections: 1) introduction; 2) major conclusions of the market study: climate and site selection, proposed concept and theme, market support, attendance, visitation patterns, recommended operating hours, physical planning guidelines, …

Noise Description And Noise Control At The Federal, State, And Local Level, Bobby L. Henning
Noise Description And Noise Control At The Federal, State, And Local Level, Bobby L. Henning
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Noise, that undesirable portion of the ever-present sounds of our environment, has until the last decade, been considered as an unavoidable by-product of our rapid population growth and its accompanying mechanization. As awareness of adverse health effects from noise exposure grew, the Federal government, as protector of the public health and welfare, took the initial steps to control noise pollution. Federal legislation, beginning with the Clean Air Amendments of 1970, has been promulgated to control major offenders and to assist State and local governments in their endeavors to provide the public with an environment free from harmful noise levels. The Comparative Effects Of Self-Evaluation And Self-Reinforcement Training In The Treatment Of Depression, David P. Tressler
The Comparative Effects Of Self-Evaluation And Self-Reinforcement Training In The Treatment Of Depression, David P. Tressler
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Rehm's self-control model of depression was evaluated by dismantling the self-control therapy into separate therapies based on self-monitoring plus self-evaluation and self-monitoring plus self-reinforcement training respectively. Seventeen volunteer female subjects selected on the basis of MMPI, Beck Depression Inventory and interview criteria were randomly assigned to the two conditions for six weekly therapy sessions. Results showed significant treatment effects on level of depression, overall pathology, behavioral ratings of verbal response levels and activity reinforcement potential. Separate comparisons of ratings of current functioning and performance criteria yielded significant effects on ratings of current functioning in favor of the self-monitoring plus self-reinforcement …
