Tourism To Japan: Quantitative Analyses On Perceived Image Of Japan As A Travel Destination, Abraham Pizam, Tadayuki Hara Jul 2010

Tourism To Japan: Quantitative Analyses On Perceived Image Of Japan As A Travel Destination, Abraham Pizam, Tadayuki Hara

Dick Pope Sr. Institute Publications

While some previous reports in Japanese claimed several factors as important and effective to attract foreign visitors to Japan, namely inbound visitors, this report may be the one of a few with scientific and quantitative data analysis to back up the findings. Respondents' profiles were collected at the same time so that we can not only view the general profiles of respondents but also conduct advanced statistical analyses.

Expression Of Human Serum Albumin Insulin In Plastids (Cip2), Henry Daniell, Myung Ok Byung, Seung-Bum Lee Jun 2010

Expression Of Human Serum Albumin Insulin In Plastids (Cip2), Henry Daniell, Myung Ok Byung, Seung-Bum Lee

UCF Patents

Transgenic chloroplast technology could provide a viable solution to the production of Insulin-like Growth Factor I (IGF-I), Human Serum Albumin (HSA), or interferons (IFN) because of hyper-expression capabilities, ability to fold and process eukaryotic proteins with disulfide bridges (thereby eliminating the need for expensive post-purification processing). Tobacco is an ideal choice because of its large biomass, ease of scale-up (million seeds per plant), genetic manipulation and impending need to explore alternate uses for this hazardous crop. Therefore, all three human proteins will be expressed as follows: a) Develop recombinant DNA vectors for enhanced expression via tobacco chloroplast genomes b) generate …

Inhibition Of Reactive Oxygen Species And Protection Of Mammalian Cells In Vivo., Sudipta Seal, Junping Chen, James Mcginnis, Swanand Patil, Steve Sezate, Lily Wong Jun 2010

Inhibition Of Reactive Oxygen Species And Protection Of Mammalian Cells In Vivo., Sudipta Seal, Junping Chen, James Mcginnis, Swanand Patil, Steve Sezate, Lily Wong

UCF Patents

Methods and compositions useful for neuronal protection in retinal cells in vitro and the protection of mammalian cells from reactive oxygen species in vivo are provided. Ultrafine nano-size cerium oxide particles, less than 10 nanometers in diameter, have been provided to decrease reactive oxygen species (ROS) in retina tissue that generates large amounts of ROS. These reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in light-induced retina degeneration and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Cerium oxide nanoparticles have been used to promote the lifespan of retinal neurons and protect the neurons from apoptosis induced by hydrogen peroxide in vitro and in vivo. The …

Ecotourists' Loyalty: Will They Tell About The Destination Or Will They Return?, Manuel Antonio Rivera, Robertico R. Croes May 2010

Ecotourists' Loyalty: Will They Tell About The Destination Or Will They Return?, Manuel Antonio Rivera, Robertico R. Croes

Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of price, value, satisfaction, quality, and performance on the ecotourists' loyalty towards the destination. By using an attitudinal approach, loyalty is conceptualised by analysing the post-purchase decision-making of the ecotourists (intent to return or recommend). The analysis is based on 454 on-site surveys collected from ecotourists visiting the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. The results from path analysis indicate that ecotourists are not likely to return but are willing to recommend the destination. The findings suggest that the Galapagos Islands might be perceived as an iconic destination and considered a ‘once …

Process For Hydrogen Production Via Integrated Processing Of Landfill Gas And Biomass, Nazim Muradov, Ali Raissi, Franklyn Smith Apr 2010

Process For Hydrogen Production Via Integrated Processing Of Landfill Gas And Biomass, Nazim Muradov, Ali Raissi, Franklyn Smith

UCF Patents

Hydrogen production is provided via integrated closed-loop processing of landfill gas (LFG) and solid biomass feedstocks such as various agricultural wastes with minimal environmental impact. LFG is purified of harmful contaminants over a bed of activated charcoal (AC) and is catalytically reformed to synthesis gas, which is further processed to pure hydrogen via CO-shift and pressure-swing adsorption stages. Biomass is gasified in the presence of steam with production of a producer gas and AC. The producer gas is mixed with LFG and is processed to hydrogen as described above. High-surface area AC produced in the gasifier is used for the …
