Food security is a crucial issue for sustainable development and is highly influenced by multidimensional poverty. This study measures food security and multidimensional poverty in Kalimantan Island, analyzes the determinants of household food security through a multilevel approach, and explores the influence of multidimensional poverty and regional context on food security. Data were obtained from the March 2022 National Socio-Economic Survey, comprising 33,201 households and integrated with district-level characteristics. Multidimensional poverty was measured using the Alkire-Foster method, while food security was measured based on energy consumption and the proportion of food expenditure. Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

COVID-19 has posed significant global health threats, with responses varying across populations due to differences in risk perception, behaviour, and biological vulnerability. In Indonesia, most research has focused on urban settings, with limited attention paid to rural or remote communities. This study assesses COVID-19- risks related—specifically behavioural and immunity-related-factors—in the remote area of both Bontoramba Subdistrict, Jeneponto Regency. A cross-sectional study was conducted using cluster random sampling across eight villages, with 183 participants selected from a total of 12,242 households. Jurnal Keperawatan Indonesia

All healthcare personnel, including both medical and non-medical staff within hospitals, are expected to possess the capability to administer Basic Life Support (BLS) in order to provide immediate assistance during emergencies. However, many non-medical hospital staff remain unprepared to perform BLS due to a lack of knowledge, willingness, and confidence. This study aims to identify the factors affecting the preparedness of non-medical hospital staff in carrying out BLS at Undata Hospital, a healthcare facility in Central Sulawesi. This research employed quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample comprised 103 non-medical respondents selected through total sampling. Data were collected through …

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Plastic bag waste has the potential to be converted into alternative fuel oil through the pyrolysis method. This study applies the principle of thermal pyrolysis, conducted without oxygen, at the Edelweis Integrated Waste Management Site. The purpose is to analyze the characteristics of fuel oil derived from plastic bag waste based on parameters such as density, viscosity, calorific value, and acid number, as well as to estimate the potential fuel oil yield from plastic bag waste in Pontianak City. The results show that the density, viscosity, and calorific value of the produced fuel oil meet or closely approach standard requirements. …

Sustainable Water Management In Universities: Perceptions, Behaviours, And Challenges, Hastin Setiani, Dwita Sutjiningsih, Riri Fitri Sari

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Universities are increasingly adopting the “living laboratory” model to implement and evaluate sustainability innovations. These settings enable students, staff, and stakeholders to co-create and test real-world solutions, including those related to water use. Universitas Indonesia promotes sustainability through an integrated approach encompassing policy development, academics programs, and infrastructures. Prior studies using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) have demonstrated that attitudes and perceived norms significantly influence sustainable behavior. However, limited research has examined how these dynamics operate within Indonesian universities or how university-based initiatives may contribute to broader urban water management. This study addresses that gap by examining perceptions, behaviors, …

Assessing The Transformation Of Livelihoods In Illegal Gold Mining Communities, Nurmansyah Ardikoesoema, Mahawan Karuniasa

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Illegal Artisanal Small-Scale Gold Mining (PETI) in Poboya, Palu City, exemplifies Indonesia’s nexus of socio-environmental vulnerability and institutional marginalization. Although environmental degradation, health impacts, and regulatory challenges associated with PETI have been extensively documented, limited research has systematically examined how the interplay of capital assets and internal motivation drives livelihood transformation pathways within PETI communities. To address this gap, this study uniquely integrates the Sustainable Livelihood Framework with spatial analysis to assess the combined influence of environmental, social, and economic capitals on PETI livelihood transitions. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through quantitative survey and qualitative in-depth interviews with …

Environmental Impacts Of Land Use Change In Industrial Areas, Dwi Nowo Martono, Aruminingsih Aruminingsih

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Industrial development in Indonesia has been predominantly concentrated on Java Island, particularly in Karawang Regency, West Java Province. Covering an area of 175,327 hectares, Karawang has been identified as a strategic region for national food security. The Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning designated 95,667.45 hectares of rice fields as protected agricultural land. However, the expansion of industrial and residential areas within the regency poses a significant threat to its role as the national rice granary and to broader food security. As industrial land occupancy increases, the environmental capacity to support rice production and ensure national food security declines. …

Future Interior Of The Past: An Air Terminal Comes Of Age At Detroit-Willow Run, Joss Kiely

Interiority

After the Second World War, manufacturing plants were no longer needed for wartime production levels, prompting the closure and repurposing of industrial facilities that became obsolescent overnight across the United States and in the manufacturing region of Southeastern Michigan. Located twenty miles west of Detroit, the Willow Run airfield in Ypsilanti was one such case. Best known for the massive B-24 Liberator manufacturing plant designed by Albert Kahn that opened in 1942 as Air Force Plant 31, the airfield played a key role in ending the war. Just to the south, a Kahn-designed hangar was loosely repurposed in 1946–1947 as …

Flex-Spatialities: Interior Spaces, Play, And Fantasy, Camilo Lozano-Rivera

Interiority

This article examines how interior spaces in the digital age have evolved into flexible, adaptive environments shaped by technological mediation and shifting everyday practices. Focusing on smart homes and home offices, this article introduces the concept of flex-spatiality to describe how these spaces continually reconfigure in response to changes in needs and digital interfaces. Grounded in Gregory Bateson’s (1972) theory of play and fantasy, the study explores how interior spatiality operates on two levels: as a locus for expressing identities and as a structure for organising social interaction. Through Bateson’s distinction between metalinguistic and metacommunicative functions, flex-spatiality is framed as …

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of preventive health protocols, especially for high-contact occupations, such as online motorcycle taxi riders. However, adherence among these riders is inconsistent, particularly in economically constrained regions, such as Samarinda, a buffer zone for Indonesia's new capital. This study examined the influence of supporting and hindering factors on COVID-19 protocol compliance. A cross-sectional design was employed with 87 riders selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation to assess the relationships between influencing factors and compliance levels. Economic barriers, especially high personal protective equipment (PPE) costs …
