Sharia Supervisory Board Reports (SSBRs) have an interest in convincing the public that entities supervised by a Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB) are sharia-compliant and reflective of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) practices. Failure in public convincing will be detrimental to Islamic banks’ reputation as well as the SSB’s image and credibility. The Seh Mlaya is a narrative tradition of Sunan Kalijaga’s conversion and becoming a wali that is well-known for its drawing on pre-Islamic narrative and discursive legacies. In this article, I explore the Islamic genealogies of the narrative as told in a Surakarta manuscript (RP 333). For centuries, the dinar and dirham have been recognized as the most stable and sharia-compliant official trading instruments. In Indonesia, dinars and dirhams may be used with specific qualifications. However, the precedent for arresting scholar Zaim Saidi for organizing a muamalah market using dinar-dirham is a bad practice of punishing innovation in the use of dinar-dirham, which reduces the development of the sharia economy in Indonesia.
