Academic stressors in a medical educational environment are related to two factors. This study was carried out in order to analyze the correlation between the dental environment and perceived stress among dental students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The respondents were 422 undergraduate dental students and the validated Modified Dental Environmental Stress (DES) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaires were used. Furthermore, the Spearman correlation analysis was used to measure the correlation between DES and PSS score. The result showed that five dental stressors were noted to have the strongest correlations with PSS (p-value >0.40). They include expectation towards dental school …

Third-Person Perception As A Mediator Of The Influence Of Social Networking Sites Use And Personal Relevance To Preventive Behavioural Intention, Joseph Edwin, Ummi Salamah

JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA

News coverage on Covid-19 is important as it provides people with important updates as well as crucial information for avoiding infection. Previous studies have shown undesirable messages such as Covid-19 news that circulates in social networking sites can trigger ‘third-person perception (TPP)’, which is a phenomenon in which audiences presume a message exerts more influence upon people other than themselves. It is crucial to examine whether audiences experience TPP during consumption of pandemic news – especially when there is a possible negative correlation between TPP and protective behavioural intentions. Previous studies showed empirical evidence when users used Covid-19 news in …

The first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Indonesia was announced in March 2020. Since then, the number of COVID-19 cases has continued to rise. This prompted the government to adopt Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB) or large-scale social restrictions (LSSR). Certain areas within dengue fever endemic regions face two challenges: simultaneously tackling COVID-19 and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Five economic growth centers (a city and four districts) in East Java Province (Gresik, Bangkalan, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Lamongan) were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and adengue fever outbreak. This is a quantitative research with a comparative study design that …

Sinovac Vaccine Polemic Disinformation In Asymmetrical Warfare Perspective, Fera Belinda, Maria Puspitasari

International Review of Humanities Studies

The polemic of the China produced Sinovac Vaccine issue spreading among the public, is a form of disinformation used by political opposition to the government, to block and mess up the government’s effort to accelerate handling of Covid-19 transmission in Indonesia. The polemic results in 4 situations, namely; first, decreasing public trust in the government's commitment in eradicating the Covid-19 pandemic. Second, low level of support from the public of the Covid-19 handling programs. Third, delayed and slow economic recovery which brings down the public's economic ability due to increasing number of layoffs caused by decreases in companies’ turnover and …

Hand-washing practice, which is globally recognized as the simplest, most affordable and effective way of curtailing the spread of infectious diseases, is still low in developing countries. This is largely influenced by the dearth and adequacy of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities. This paper investigated the level of availability and adequacy of WASH facilities in secondary schools in a developing, sub-Sharan country, particularly Lagos State, Nigeria. Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) guided this research. In all, 620 pupils were selected through multi-stage sampling methods. We examine how the government's campaign for controlling COVID-19 is perceived by people, and how these measures influenced people’s attitudes and behavior. This paper specifically discusses how people’s perceptions regarding COVID-19 control measures temper orthodox understandings of behavior modification, such as perceived threats, and how it influences their attitude and behavior. Qualitative data collected from an online open-ended questionnaire was cross-sectionally analyzed. This study argues that high risk perception is actually just one of many …

Current Clinical Approach Of Nosocomial Clostridium Difficileinfection, Frans Liwang, Robert Sinto

Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia

Hospital-acquired Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) has become one of the global threats because the incidence has increased in recent decades. This nosocomial infection is closely related to antibiotic use in health services and is commonly found in the elderly. Antibiotics can promote colonization and CDI by intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and complex innate immune system activation. The manifestation also has a wide spectrum, ranging from mild diarrhea to fulminant colonic mucosal necrosis. Given that not all colonized subjects will be infected, further investigations such as toxigenic culture, nucleic-acid detection, and stool immunologic tests are only useful in symptomatic cases. In all …

Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic skin disorder that is commonly seen in young adults. Recent studies have shown that bacteria other than Cuticubacterium acnes found in the skin microbiota also play vital roles in the pathogenesis of AV. Understanding the skin microbiota and its disruption in patients with AV is paramount in treating patients with AV.

Methods: Samples were obtained from 36 subjects to evaluate the proportion of Cutibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus aureus in lesions of AV by means of bacterial culture.

Results: There were 69 specimens collected from the 36 subjects with …

Mandatory Social Distancing For Covid-19 Outbreak And Its Economic Consequences In West Sumatera - Indonesia, Endrizal Ridwan, Besti Novianda

Jurnal Ekonomi Kesehatan Indonesia

The Governor of West Sumatra Province of Indonesia imposed a mandatory social distancing (PSBB) to slow down the Covid-19 outbreak from 22 April to 7 June 2020. The cons argued that PSBB was ineffective because of the impossibility to limit people’s movements. The pros, on the other hand, viewed PSBB as a training facility to increase people’s awareness about the pandemic. Our research aims at evaluating the effectiveness of PSBB by using the Kermack-McKendrick SIR pandemic model and the NLSUR non-linear least square estimation. Using daily data published by the Covid-19 task force, we found that PSBB had a positive …

Human Health Threat And Economic Vulnerability: A Case Study On The Covid-19 Pandemic, Mirah Satria Alamsyah, Muhammad Faizal Alfian, Miftah Farid Darussalam

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

This paper frames the approach to determining policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which either prioritise human health security protection or economic vulnerability. In this paper, the human security concept will be used to explain COVID-19 as a health security problem due to the existence of an existential threat. However, the same approach is not applicable in looking at COVID-19 as an economic security problem. Because the existential threat is less visible in human economic security aspects, it tends to be more appropriate to look at COVID-19 as the stressor that strengthens human vulnerabilities. This paper uses a qualitative …

A microfluidic paper-based analytical device (µPAD) is developed in this work to analyze hydroquinone in facial whitening creams using phloroglucinol. The µPAD features a hydrophobic barrier for detection and was fabricated using a wax printer with Whatman chromatographic paper. Detection was achieved by colorimetry based on the formation of an orange hydroquinone–phloroglucinol complex. The colored reaction product formed on the detection zone of the µPAD was scanned, and the images obtained were processed with Image-J software to determine their color intensity (RGB value). Optimization of the process conditions was conducted to achieve sensitive measurements. The optimum conditions yielding maximum sensitivity …
