A Modification Of The Response Method Of Tidal Analysis, R. A. Hyde, Neal Pettigrew
A Modification Of The Response Method Of Tidal Analysis, R. A. Hyde, Neal Pettigrew
Marine Sciences Faculty Scholarship
An easily implemented extension of the standard response method of tidal analysis is outlined. The modification improves the extraction of both the steady and the tidal components from problematic time series by calculating tidal response weights uncontaminated by missing or anomalous data. Examples of time series containing data gaps and anomalous events are analyzed to demonstrate the applicability and advantage of the proposed method.

1993-94 Women's Basketball Media Guide, Maine Sports Information Office
1993-94 Women's Basketball Media Guide, Maine Sports Information Office
General University of Maine Publications
The UMaine women return with eight players from a year ago and boast an impressive group of newcomers. The recruiting class features the USA Today Vermont Player of the Year, the State of Maine’s Miss Basketball, and two other players over six-foot, four inches tall.
In addition to the new talent, last year’s team gelled together at the end of last season by winning five of its last seven games, including two conference playoff upsets. The lone worry entering the 1993 season, is the loss of the team’s leading scorer and rebounder from a year ago, Heather Briggs. Expectations for …

Kelp Beds As Habitat For American Lobster Homarus Americanus, P. A.X. Bologna, Robert Steneck
Kelp Beds As Habitat For American Lobster Homarus Americanus, P. A.X. Bologna, Robert Steneck
Marine Sciences Faculty Scholarship
The American lobster Homarus americanus and kelp Laminaria longicruris and L. saccharina are prominent and often intimately associated members of the subtidal community in the western North Atlantic Ocean. However, no one has identified the nature of this relationship or specifically investigated whether kelp beds are a superior habitat for lobsters. We conducted field studies in 1990 and 1991 at a coastal site centrally located along the Gulf of Maine, USA, to determine how lobsters use kelp beds as habitat. Identically sized and spaced plots of live and artificial (plastic) kelp were established and monitored for lobster population densities. Adjacent …
