Hybrid Deep Learning Approaches For Accurate Electricity Price Forecasting: A Day-Ahead Us Energy Market Analysis With Renewable Energy, Rahman Md. Saifur, Hassan Reza

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Forecasting day-ahead electricity prices is a crucial research area. Both wholesale and retail sectors highly value improved forecast accuracy. Renewable energy sources have grown more influential and effective in the US power market. However, current forecasting models have shortcomings, including inadequate consideration of renewable energy impacts and insufficient feature selection. Many studies lack reproducibility, clear presentation of input features, and proper integration of renewable resources. This study addresses these gaps by incorporating a comprehensive set of input features, while these features are engineered to capture complex market dynamics. The model’s unique aspect is its inclusion of renewable-related inputs, such as …

Inversions are known contributors to the pathogenesis of genetic diseases. Identifying inversions poses significant challenges, making it one of the most demanding structural variants (SVs) to detect and interpret. Recent advancements in sequencing technologies and the development of publicly available SV datasets have substantially enhanced our capability to explore inversions. However, a cross-comparison in those datasets remains unexplored. In this study, we reported a proband with familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis type-3 carrying a splicing variant (c.1389+1G>A) in trans with an inversion present in 0.006345% of individuals in gnomAD (v4.0) that disrupts UNC13D. Based on this result, we investigate the features …

Adverse childhood experiences, such as household dysfunction (HD), play a central role in how adolescents establish, experience, and navigate the challenges of relationship formation, maintenance, and dissolution. HD exposures have been independently associated with dating violence (DV) perpetration in both adolescents and adults. However, research examining the association between the concurrent effect of HD on DV perpetration, especially among adolescents remains scarce. Thus, we conducted a scoping review to accumulate and summarize existing research regarding the impact of HD on DV perpetration among adolescents aged 10 to 17 years in the United States. We used three electronic databases, Medline (Ovid), …

Carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS1) deficiency is a rare metabolic disorder that, in neonatal onset, is typically characterized by severe life-threatening and neurologically injuring hyperammonemic episodes with high unmet patient need. Patients that retain limited enzyme activity may present later in life with less severe hyperammonemia. CPS1 drives the first step in the urea cycle, the pathway terrestrial mammals utilize to metabolize nitrogen. In order to probe the effect of hyperammonemia on the developing nervous system and explore new therapies, a murine Cps1 exon 3-4 mutant was previously generated. However, these mice die within 24 h of birth, limiting study …

Background and objectives: Emerging evidence suggests that immune dysregulation plays a pivotal role in triggering cryptogenic new-onset refractory status epilepticus (c-NORSE), prompting a consensus on early initiation of immunotherapy. However, despite similar timing of administration, responses to immunotherapies have been varied and unpredictable, suggesting the presence of heterogeneous underlying mechanisms. The aim of this study was to identify distinct inflammatory response subtypes in patients with c-NORSE by analyzing their cytokine profiles. Insights into underlying mechanisms were sought to understand the pathophysiology and guide personalized therapies to improve patient outcomes.

Methods: Sixty-two patients with c-NORSE were included. A comprehensive panel …

Inhibition Of Srebp-1c Rescues Hepatic Cyp7b1 Expression And Bile Acid Synthesis In Malnourished Mice, Xiaoyang Wan, Krishnakant G Soni, Jong Min Choi, Sun Yun Jung, Margaret E Conner, Geoffrey A Preidis

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Malnutrition decreases intestinal bile acids, resulting in inefficient nutrient absorption and impaired catch-up growth. Mechanisms by which bile acid depletion occurs in malnutrition are unknown. Using a mouse model of early-life malnutrition, we explored bile acid homeostasis, focusing on transcriptional repression of CYP7B1, a rate-limiting enzyme in the alternative pathway of bile acid biosynthesis, by SREBP-1c, a master regulator of lipid metabolism. Mice were maintained on a low-protein low-fat or isocaloric control chow until eight weeks of age when livers were harvested for proteome profiling, western blot, RT-qPCR, and chromatin immunoprecipitation. Cultured hepatocytes and mice were treated with the SREBP-1c …

Guidelines for management of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) emphasize personalized care, patient engagement, and shared decision-making. Medications and cardiac rhythm management (CRM) devices are recommended with a high level of evidence. However, there are significant disparities: patients who could benefit from devices are frequently referred too late or not at all. Misconceptions about device therapy and the notion that the needs of patients (especially the prevention of sudden cardiac death) can now be met by expanding drug therapies may play a role in these disparities. This state-of-the-art review is produced by members of the DIRECT HF initiative, …

Diet is a major modifiable risk factor for type 2 diabetes (T2D), and suboptimal diets continue to contribute substantially to the population burden of T2D. Personalized nutrition proponents argue that specializing recommendations to interindividual differences in diet-health relationships will yield reductions in disease risk. However, how to personalize diet, and to whom, to reduce T2D risk remains unclear. Metabolites offer promise in this respect, as they capture (in part) dietary intake after the processes of digestion, processing, and absorption. The incorporation of metabolite data into diet-health studies therefore offers the opportunity to examine how the effects of food on the …

Approximately 35% of US adults over 65 are obese, highlighting the need for therapies targeting age-related metabolic issues. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), a hormone mainly produced by the liver, improves metabolism and extends lifespan. To explore its effects without developmental confounders, we generated mice with adipocyte-specific FGF21 overexpression beginning in adulthood. When fed a high-fat diet, these mice lived up to 3.3 years, resisted weight gain, improved insulin sensitivity, and showed reduced liver steatosis. Aged transgenic mice also displayed lower levels of inflammatory immune cells and lipotoxic ceramides in visceral adipose tissue, benefits that occurred even in the absence …

Anxiety and related disorders are a significant public health burden with rising prevalence in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. As demand for effective anxiety treatment increases, so too does the need for strategies to bolster treatment outcomes. Research on the mechanisms of exposure therapy, the frontline behavioral treatment, will be critically important for optimizing clinical outcomes. We outline an initial agenda for future research on the mechanisms of change of exposure therapy, developed in collaboration with a large international team of researchers through the Exposure Therapy Consortium (ETC). Key questions and recommendations for future research focus on five priority …

This brief report describes takeaways from the implementation of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data collection within a matrix comprehensive cancer center. Implementation of standardized and parsimonious SOGI data collection practices is a strategy recommended to improve our understanding of the cancer experiences among sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations. However, interventions are rarely sustained in routine practice without an organized program to support their implementation. We used a stakeholder-engaged approach to integrate a SOGI questionnaire in the electronic health record (EHR) at Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC)-affiliated adult oncology clinics and evaluate its feasibility, acceptability, and …

The current classification of traumatic brain injury (TBI) primarily uses the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) to categorize injuries as mild (GCS 13-15), moderate (GCS 9-12), or severe (GCS ≤8). However, this system is unsatisfactory, as it overlooks variations in injury severity, clinical needs, and prognosis. A recent report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (USA) recommended updating the classification system, leading to a workshop in 2024 by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. This resulted in the development of a new clinical, biomarker, imaging, and modifier (CBI-M) framework, with input from six working groups, including …

Objectives: Evaluate associations between maternal perceived stress and depressive symptoms, and fetal body composition and organ volumes.

Methods: In the NICHD Fetal 3D Study (2015-2019; n = 2457), stress and depressive symptoms were assessed at enrollment (10-13 weeks). High stress was defined as a Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) score ≥15 and high depressive symptoms, defined as an Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) score ≥10. Fetal body composition and organ volumes (cerebellar, lung, liver, and kidney) were measured up to five times between 15 and 40 weeks using three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound technology. Trajectories of body composition and organ volumes across pregnancy …
