Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objective of this study was to evaluate the fixation of ammonium in the soils of Tokat region to find out the important factors influencing them. For this purpose 12 representative soil samples were collected from different Great Soil Groups in the region. The amount of ammonium fixed naturally in the samples was found between 41.62-66.90 ppm ammonium (0.29-0.47 me NH 4 -N/100 g. soil). The amounts of ammonium fixed by the soils where increasing amounts of ammonium applied were found between 0.63-1.29%. There was a significant effect from application of potassium to the soils on the fixation of ammonium. …

The Effect Of Bleaching Conditions On The Physical And Optical Properties During The Bleaching Of Ctmp With Peroxide, Mustafa Usta, Ahmet Tutuş

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In order to determine the effect of bleaching conditions on the physical and optical properties of pulps during the bleaching of CTMP with H_2O_2, 48 bleaching trials were carried out. After the analysis of the data obtained, the optimum bleaching conditions were as follows: H_2O_2 ratio 2.5-3%, Na_2SiO_3 ratio 3%, NaOH ratio 3%, NaOH/H_2O_2 ratio 0.75, MgSO_4 rate 0.5%, reaction temperature 70ºC, EDTA rate 0.5%, reaction time 80 minutes and concentration 16%. Brightness, breaking length, burst and tear index of CTMP bleached with H_2O_2 were found to be 51.42%, 18.03%, 92.50% and 13.20% respectively, higher than those of unbleached CTMP.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, interesterification which has been used in developed countries for years and tried in Turkey recently, was applied to a sunflower oil and beef tallow blend (80:20). 25 sample fats were obtained by applying interestification at different temperatures and times by adding 0.3% sodium methoxide. The changes in the tocopherols and sterols of these fats were investigated. It was determined that the reaction was completed at 70°C in 45 minites and at higher temperatures and longer times using lipase hydrolysis. In conclusion tocopherols and sterols were esterified more quickly as time and temperature increased. Therefore, they were more …

Isotherm equations, fitted quite well to obtained sorption data, were determined and parameter constants of the equations were calculated by regression using the lineer form of the isotherm equation. The best fitness was seen in Henderson equation as low fitness was seen for BET equation.

A one-year field trial in Italy was carried out for comparing tillage systems such as 50 cm chiselling (CH), 40 cm plow-till (PT40) and 20 cm plow-till (PT20) according to results of a new developed infiltration method. Ponded infiltration rates were measured to obtain the field saturated hydraulic conductivity (K fs ) using single ring infiltrometers on six dates with six replications in three sites on a sandy clayey loam soil. In both PT20 and CH plots, K fs after tillage increased temporarily to a value of about 4 and 9 times greater than that observed before tillage, respectively. However, …

Experimental Determination Of \Beta And \Gamma Critical Exponents In The Sol-Gel Phase Transition By Using Steady-State Fluorescence Technique, Y. Yilmaz, Ö. Pekcan Jan 1999

Experimental Determination Of \Beta And \Gamma Critical Exponents In The Sol-Gel Phase Transition By Using Steady-State Fluorescence Technique, Y. Yilmaz, Ö. Pekcan

Turkish Journal of Physics

The gelation of methyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate was studied using the steady-state fluorescence technique. Samples with various crosslinker densities were prepared and sol-gel phase transitions were observed at various temperatures. Percolation theory was employed to interpret the results. For all samples the gel fraction and the average cluster size exponents, \beta and \gamma, were measured and found to be around 0.42 and 1.7 respectively. These values show excellent agreement with theoretical and simulation results.
