Salinity Response In Tunisian Durum Wheat Genotypes: Genetic Relationships, Phenotypic Variation, And Ssr Marker-Based Computational Modelling, Rim Mzid, Rayda Ben Ayed, Imène Ayachi, Elyès Babay, İnci̇ Tolay, Lamia Hamrouni, Abdullah Eren, Mohsen Hanana

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study identifies salt-tolerant durum wheat genotypes for breeding programmes by integrating phenotypic, genotypic, and computational analyses of 27 Mediterranean varieties. Cluster analysis and principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) revealed two distinct genetic groups: modern genotypes (high-yielding Tunisian/Italian cultivars) and ancient genotypes (traditional Tunisian landraces). Among tested cultivars, JnehKhottifa and Grécale exhibited exceptional salinity tolerance, maintaining >80% germination at 200 mM NaCl, while Om Rabiaa and Agili showed sensitivity (<50% germination). Bayesian network modelling was used to explore the probabilistic relationships between simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers (e.g., CFD40 and GWM182, PIC = 0.561) and important traits such as root length and germination rate under stress. Genetic diversity analysis (average PIC = 0.407) highlighted the potential of SSR markers for trait-marker associations. These findings establish a valuable platform for enhancing marker-assisted selection salt- tolerant durum wheat varieties, essential for securing yields in saline-prone Mediterranean regions.

Turkish Journal of Physics

This study investigates the influence of key deposition parameters on the optoelectronic properties of Molybdenum (Mo) films fabricated via DC magnetron sputtering. The results demonstrate that increasing the Argon gas pressure significantly raises the sheet resistance, primarily due to increased porosity and defect formation. In contrast, films deposited at lower pressures exhibit higher conductivity due to their denser morphology. The substrate temperature also plays a critical role in determining crystallographic structure and electrical performance. Mo bilayer films deposited at 250 °C show a much lower sheet resistance compared to room temperature (RT) growth. Additionally, increasing the total film thickness from …

On-chip optical sensors have been attracting significant attention of the researchers due to their portability, low cost, and in-situ detection compatibility. The realization of these compact and mass-producible sensors will be possible if all required optical and electronic components are fully integrated on the same chip. However, the main obstacle here is the lack of the room-temperature on-chip light source; therefore, an external source has been utilized for optical sensing applications. Our work introduces a germanium-based optical sensing structure, specifically designed to operate at low refractive indices, with all required optical components integrated on silicon in a CMOS-compatible manner. The …

One-Pot, Light-Induced, Liquid Crystal-Templated Synthesis Of Nanoporous Silver Films At Room Temperature, Fadi̇me Mert Balci

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Nanoporous silver (NPS) films, characterized by a 3-dimensional bicontinuous structure of interconnected nanopores and ligaments, have found widespread use in spectroscopy, plasmonics, solar cells, catalysis, and chemical sensing. Traditionally, NPS films are fabricated via chemical dealloying, where a less noble metal (e.g., Cu or Al) is selectively removed through harsh chemical etching. However, residual traces of these metals can adversely affect the performance of NPS thin films in applications such as plasmonics and catalysis. This paper reports a one-pot, liquid crystal-templated method for synthesizing ultrapure NPS thin films at room temperature for the first time. The process begins with the …

Activation Of Propane On Ag–Pdo(101) Model Surfaces, Mustafa Karatok Oct 2025

Activation Of Propane On Ag–Pdo(101) Model Surfaces, Mustafa Karatok

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Oxidation of alkanes remains a central challenge in catalysis due to the high activation barriers of C–H bonds and the thermodynamic favorability of complete oxidation. Palladium oxide (PdO), particularly its (101) facet, is known for its high reactivity in alkane oxidation, which is attributed to its coordinatively unsaturated palladium (Pd) and O atoms. In this study, we investigate the effect of silver (Ag) incorporation on the oxidation behavior of propane over PdO(101) using temperature-programmed reaction spectroscopy (TPRS) under controlled conditions. While pristine PdO(101) exhibits complete oxidation of propane with CO₂ and H₂O desorption at high temperatures (approximately 475 K), Ag …
