The Fertile Crescent is a primary center of wheat domestication and diversity. Despite its importance for bread wheat breeding, few efforts have been made to fully understand the genetic structure of the Anatolian bread wheat. It has valuable timber and thus has promising potential for cultivation within and outside its natural distribution. Our aim was to determine the morphological and physiological characteristics of C. Libani needle leaves with respect to epicuticular waxes, photosynthetic assimilation rates, and needle age. Calosoma sycophanta L. (Coleoptera: Carabidae) is a voracious predatory beetle that feeds on several important lepidopteran pests. It is mass reared in laboratory breeding and released against forest pests. Any infection in this beetle is undesirable because it impacts production of effective and healthy beetles. In the present study, a microsporidian pathogen was found in C. sycophanta. Mature spores of the pathogen are single, uninucleate, oval, and small, measuring about 3.04 × 1.7 µm. Rice is one of the most important crop plants as well as a model organism used for genetic studies. Transposons, especially retrotransposons, have a significant impact on the rice genome. A considerable percentage of the rice genome is composed of transposons (about 35%). Thus, transposons are an important internal factor for the genome evolution of rice varieties. In this study, we performed fing?erprint analyses of 37 Oryza sativa L. Cultivars using an IRAP marker. The effect of nitrogen (N), sulfur (S), and zinc (Zn) fertilization on the yield quantity and selected qualitative parameters of broccoli was studied in an experiment carried out in Nitra (Slovak Republic) during 2011 and 2012. The effects of two different types of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on the physicochemical properties, biochemical composition, and storage quality of sweet pomegranate variety Beynarı were investigated during long-term storage. Pomegranates were harvested at the commercial harvest stage and packed in two different commercial types of MAP (MAP1, sealed in packages made of Xtend® film; MAP2, sealed in bags made of ZOEPAC). This investigation was aimed to evaluate 22 promising vegetable amaranth genotypes for antioxidant, leaf quality, and agronomic traits for two test seasons. The experiment was conducted to study the degree of genetic parameters, associations among different traits, and their contribution towards foliage yield. The analysis of variance for twelve traits was found highly significant. High mean, high range of variability, and high genotypic variance were observed for all the traits except content of Ca, protein, and carotenoid. Use of organic manures for soil amendment has gained renewed attention with growing concerns about sustaining soil productivity. A greenhouse study was carried out to determine the influence of different soil amendments, namely poultry manure (PM), cattle manure (CM), and sulfur (S), on soil P status. The application rates were 0, 4, and 8 t ha-1 for PM; 0, 20, and 40 t ha-1 for CM; and 0, 0.75, and 1.5 t ha-1 for S treatments. In this study, along with several other horticultural attributes, total phenolic content (TP) and antioxidant capacity (ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC)) of 52 superior pepper genotypes from the Alata Pepper Breeding Program were examined. Forests dominated by serotinous tree species are usually generalized to follow an autosuccessional model of postfire recovery. Two selected mutant lines, C26 and C82, with highly significant 1000-seed weight and generated through irradiation treatment of Amaranthus cruentus L. 'Ficha', were evaluated and compared to an original nontreated control and reference variety Aztec. The phenotypic traits and biochemical properties of the amaranth seeds were studied. Comparable values for crude protein content, albumins, and globulins fractions and overall coefficients of nutritional quality were found in the evaluated samples. However, C26 showed significantly lower concentrations of celiac-related prolamins and glutelins in comparison with the control sample. Salt stress during germination degenerates crop establishment and declines yield in wheat (Triticum subsp.). Against salt (NaCl) stress, we investigated 12 bread (Triticum aestivum L.) and 10 einkorn wheat (T. monococcum subsp. monococcum) entries for germination rate, germinating power, coleoptile length, shoot length, root length, shoot/root length ratio, root fresh weight, root dry weight, and root fresh/dry weigh ratio. An effective blocking in variance analysis improved statistical significance and differentiation between germination stages and wheat entries. Pomegranate is an important fruit species, with increasing consumption and production in recent years throughout the world. In Turkey, Hicaznar, which was originally developed through selective breeding, is the most highly produced and exported cultivar. To isolate lines with improved productivity and quality, Hicaznar was selfed, open-pollinated, or crossed with the sweet pomegranate cultivars Ernar and Fellahyemez. Arising from the crosses, 3118 lines were developed, and 67 were considered for important traits. Twelve cultivars and selections of sweet and sour cherries were surveyed and characterized agromorphologically. A total of 33 characters, mainly defined by the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute and the International Union for the Protection of New Cultivars of Plants, were used to describe the tree, branches, leaves, blooming, and fruits. The study of the seed storage behavior and cryopreservation of embryonic axes was attempted in Citrus jambhiri genotypes using air desiccation-freezing, vitrification, and encapsulation-dehydration methods. Seeds of this species revealed nonorthodox seed storage behavior with moderate seed longevity and sensitivity to desiccation and freezing. Successful cryopreservation was achieved with all three methods using embryonic axes; however, the recovery growth percentage significantly differed among these methods. Cryopreservation was efficient for the embryonic axes desiccated to 13%-15% moisture content. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant capacity; the total phenolic, total carotenoid, sugar, and ascorbic acid contents; and some pomological characteristics of Citrus species (Citrus reticulata, Citrus sinensis, and Citrus paradisi) and mandarin (Citrus reticulata) and their new hybrids developed for yield at the Alata Horticultural Research Institute in Mersin, Turkey. With respect to antioxidant capacities, the highest value (45.28 µmol TE/100 g) was determined in Cocktail (Citrus paradisi) cultivar fruits among all examined cultivars and hybrids. Campanula raddeana Trautv. (Campanulaceae), based on samples collected from Çıldır (A9 Ardahan), and Galatella cretica Gand. (Asteraceae), based on samples collected from Marmaris (C1 Muğla), were recorded as new findings for the Flora of Turkey. In addition, Silene samia Melzh. & Christod. (Caryophyllaceae) was confirmed in Turkey based on samples from four localities in southwest Anatolia. Detailed descriptions, locality information, and distribution maps of the cited taxa were also given in the present study.

A new N-carboxamide compound (3) was synthesized by the reaction of dibenzoylaceticacid-$N$-carboxyethyla\-mide (1) and 3,4-dichloroaniline (2). The $N$-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-3-oxo-3-phenyl-2-(phenylcarbonyl) propanamide (3) subsequently reacted with Cu salt to produce its Cu(II) complex compound (4). The compounds were characterized by analytical and spectral methods. In addition, X-ray diffraction was performed to characterize and obtain detailed information about the structure of 3. Bacteriophages are appropriate gene carriers that might be targeted toward target cells using different strategies. Here we prepared a transferrin-targeted M13-based gene nanocarrier (Tf-targeted M13-GFP) and examined its gene delivery and expression efficacy in the AGS cell line. M13 phagemid particles bearing a GFP expression cassette (M13-GFP) were obtained from a recombinant lambda phage through an in vivo excision procedure. Drought and salinity induce biochemical, physiological, morphological, and genetic responses in plants. To understand the damage to different wheat species caused by these stresses, we investigated root-shoot growth, cell division, chromosomal aberrations, and nucleolus organizer regions (AgNORs) in root tip cells. Inhibition of root and shoot growth were observed in diploid, tetraploid, and hexaploid wheat genotypes after salt and drought stresses. Both stresses had adverse effects on dividing cells in root tips of all wheat species and caused a decrease in mitotic index values. Salt and drought lead to the induction of chromosome aberrations and repression of interphase AgNOR parameters. …

Zinc is an important catalytic element for more than 300 enzymes and plays a structural role in the stabilization of many proteins. Protein domain analysis showed that identified Zn transporter proteins belong to the ZIP protein family (PF02535). Zn transporter sequences were found to have similar molecular weights (33.1-51.4 kDa) and amino acid lengths (306-478 amino acids) with 5.31-8.92 pI values. Subcellular localization of Zn transporters was predicted as the plasma membrane. They had 6-9 putative transmembrane domains with a variable region between TM-3 and TM-4, which could contain a potential histidine-rich metal-binding domain.
