Template matching is the process of accurately extracting the interesting regions in a source image according to reference templates. In this paper, the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is employed as a novel search strategy for template matching. However, the basic GSA is easily trapped in a local optimum and has a poor exploitation ability. In this paper, to enhance the optimization performance of GSA, a novel cross-search strategy based on chaotic global search (CGS) and cloud local search (CLS) is incorporated into GSA. This study was conducted in an experimental ecological orchard in central Poland in 2011-2013. The experiment assessed the variation in damage to the fruit of ten apple cultivars by the codling moth Cydia pomonella (L.) under an organic system of apple cultivation. The cultivars were divided into two groups according to their susceptibility to apple scab Venturia inaequalis (Cooke) Wint. Peanut production areas frequently suffer from drought, which can cause severe yield losses, increased aflatoxin, and compositional changes in seed. Midseason drought is generally the most detrimental to seed yields and in altering seed protein composition. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of midseason drought on arginine content in peanut genotypes with different levels of drought resistance. Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) is an important fruit crop worldwide. We have performed a de novo transcriptome assembly for 7 apricot accessions (`Stark Early Orange' (SEO), `Hacıhaliloğlu' (HH), `Perfection', `Iğdır', `Roxana', `Esen1', and `Esen2'), which yielded a total number of transcripts ranging from 30,363 for `SEO' to 59,751 for `Iğdır'. The pool of the reads produced from 7 accessions were assembled into 85,766 transcripts, with an average of 1165.69 nt. Functional annotation (Gene Ontology- GO and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes- KEGG) was performed successfully for the transcripts. Wheat is one of the most important crops in Turkey. Production of this crop is constrained by the disease Septoria leaf blotch, which is a major bottleneck in wheat production in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of Turkey. In this study, 260 different wheat fields were surveyed for the estimation of prevalence and severity of Septoria leaf blotch. Out of 100% of the total wheat crop fields, 58.91% were infected with this disease. The mean value of Septoria leaf blotch virulence was 11.62%. Various thioxo-quinazolino[3,4-$a$]quinazolinones were prepared and evaluated for their cytotoxicity in MOLT-4 (lymphoblastic leukemia) and MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma) cell lines. Synthesis of the target compounds was started from isatoic anhydride. Successive reaction of isatoic anhydride with benzylamine and 2-nitrobenzaldehyde, reduction of the nitro group, and reaction with CS$_{2}$ gave 12-benzyl-6-thioxo-6,7,11b,12-tetrahydro-13$H$-quinazolino[3,4-$a$]quinazolin-13-one. The latter compound reacted with various 2-chloro-$N$-substituted acetamides to afford the corresponding fused quinazolinone derivatives.

A series of 1,4-phenylene-bis-chalcones 3a-3h were synthesized by the reaction of terephthalaldehyde with substituted arylketones in this study. The novel 1,4-phenylene-bis-pyrimidine-2-amine derivatives 5a-5h were obtained by the addition of guanidine hydrochloride to 1,4-phenylene-bis-chalcone 3a-3h in ethanolic KOH under reflux conditions. The structure of the compounds was explained by means of IR, $^{1}$H NMR, $^{13}$C NMR, and elemental analyses. The anticancer activities of 3a-3h and 5a-5h were investigated against rat brain tumor cells and human uterus carcinoma in vitro$.$ Activity tests were performed as dose-dependent assays at eight concentrations. The photophysical properties of new sulfonamides synthesized recently were investigated in different solvents. Shifts in the absorption and fluorescence spectra of both compounds (S10 and S11) occurred depending on the solvents used. Ground and excited state dipole moments of the molecules were calculated using the spectral shifts of the compounds in different solvents and polarity function of solvents, respectively. They were 1.32 and 1.46 D for S10 and 1.71 and 4.89 D for S11. These results suggested that the excited state dipole moments are greater than those in ground state for both molecules. Investigation of the aerial parts of Cephalaria elazigensis var. purpurea afforded one new oleanane-type saponin, namely cephoside A (1), and five known natural compounds (2-6). Compound 2, named anemoclemoside A, which is an unusual triterpene glycoside, was identified in the family Dipsacaceae for the first time. Chemical structures of all compounds were determined on the basis of the HRESIMS and 1D and 2D NMR data. Cephoside A (1) and anemoclemoside A (2) were assessed for their cytotoxic activities against HeLa cells, having IC$_{50}$ values of 495 and 135 $\mu $g/mL, respectively.

An efficient, convenient, and environmentally benign procedure for the synthesis of novel benzo[$a$]chromeno[2,3-$c$]phenazine derivatives has been developed by domino four-component condensation reaction between 2-hydroxynaphtha- lene-1,4-dione, $o-$phenylenediamine, aromatic aldehydes, and naphthols or phenol in the presence of a catalytic amount of DABCO as an expedient, ecofriendly, and reusable base catalyst under microwave irradiation in EtOH/H$_{2}$O (1:1). This green process produces biologically and pharmacologically significant heterocycles in a single one-pot operation and offers considerable advantages such as operational simplicity, short reaction time, high yields, reusability of the catalyst, absence of any tedious workup or purification, and avoidance of hazardous reagents/solvents.

Novel 1-substituted 3-(p-isopropylphenyl)-5-phenylformazans (3a--g) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, $^{1}$H NMR, and FT-IR techniques and UV-visible spectroscopy. Antiproliferative activities of 3a--g against HeLa and C6 cells were determined using the BrdU cell proliferation ELISA assay. 5-Florouracil was used as the positive control. The effects of substituents (--H, --CH$_{3}$, and --I) and their positions ($ortho$, $meta$, and $para$) on the antiproliferative activities were evaluated. The results of the assay indicate that I substituent exhibited higher activity against the cells at the $meta$ and $para$ positions than --CH$_{3}$ and --H substituents. 3a--g exhibited both high antiproliferative activities against C6 cells …

The objective of the current effort was to determine the efficacy of Fe(II)-montmorillonite (Fe(II)-MMT) as an adjuvant for specific targeted adsorption of phosphate. Specifically, Fe(II)-MMT was studied to combat hyperphosphatemia and anemia arising from chronic renal failure. The adsorption of phosphate over time, pH, and initial concentration was studied. The systems were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman, and zeta potential. The experimental results demonstrated the adsorption time was set to 140 min to achieve maximum adsorption efficiency. It was thus found that the maximum adsorption was at pH 3.0. This article presents the application of the harmony search (HS) optimization algorithm for selective harmonic elimination PWM (SHEPWM) in a new topology of multilevel inverters with reduced number of electronic switching elements. The main objective of the harmonic elimination strategy is eliminating undesired low-rank harmonics in order to improve the quality of the output waveform. The harmonic elimination strategy is achieved by solving a system of nonlinear equations. The reproductive characteristics of Erodium somanum (Geraniaceae), a critically endangered endemic species, were investigated in order to evaluate the main factors that affect its reproductive success and to evaluate their importance on its conservation. The estimated pollen/ovule ratio was calculated as 1187. Pollen viability and stigma receptivity experiments showed that stigma receptivity and pollen viability were high and synchronous throughout the anthesis. E. somanum is a strictly dioecious species and pollinated by insects. Flower visitors in the studied populations were mostly beetles and ants. Several molecular approaches have provided a comprehensive view of the physiological processes associated with flower development, but little is known about proteomic changes. Therefore, we investigated the proteomic alterations during flower development in endemic Thermopsis turcica (Vuralia turcica), an unusual legume species with 3-4 free carpels in a single flower. The genus Phlomis L. consists of three species, Ph. cancellata Bunge, Ph. chorassanica Bunge, and Ph. herba-venti L., in the Khorassan-Kopet Dagh floristic province, NE Iran. A new species is described and illustrated here as Ph. iranica Joharchi & Vaezi sp. nov. from this area. We included voucher specimens of the new and allied species in a morphological and molecular (nrDNA ITS) framework to examine the taxonomic status of the new taxon. Dianthus ucarii Hamzaoğlu & Koç (Caryophyllaceae) is described as a new species to science based on material collected in Kırklareli Province in northwestern Turkey. The new taxon belongs to sect. Carthusiani (Boiss.) F.N.Williams and it is closely related to Dianthus pinifolius Sm., an Eastern Mediterranean element. A description, illustration, and identification key for the new species are given. In addition, D. ucarii and D. pinifolius are compared in terms of general morphology and molecular phylogeny.

The pool barb, Puntius sophore Hamilton, 1822, is a tropical freshwater cyprinid fish native to inland waters in Asia. Herein, a novel myxozoan from plasmodia on the caudal fin of P. sophore from Ranjit Sagar Wetland in Punjab, India is described. Myxospores were consistent with the genus Myxobolus, ellipsoidal in frontal view, lemon-shaped in lateral view; length 7.76 ± 0.28 µm, width 5.36 ± 0.15 µm. Even though the phylogeography of hedgehogs has been well studied, information on the genetic variability of the northern white-breasted hedgehog Erinaceus roumanicus from the Balkans is lacking, since the previous studies were based on very limited sampling across the Balkans. The aim of this study is to estimate the genetic diversity and population structuring of E. roumanicus from the Central Balkans and to complement an already proposed phylogeographic scenario of this species. In Poland, the number of wild red foxes (Vulpes vulpes L.) and the size of the fur-farming industry are growing. There is concern that the gene pool of the wild foxes is being infiltrated by that of the farm animals. We analyzed three groups-Polish farm foxes and wild-living animals from Poland and North America-to investigate the gene flow or introgression between farm and wild red foxes. Wound healing is a complex process affected by various conditions, including oxidative stress. The present study explored the time-dependent effects of platelet-derived growth factor (PGDF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) administration on oxidative markers during acute stage wound healing. Thirty-six Wistar rats were distributed into three major groups; skin wounds were inflicted in all groups. Microhabitats play an important role as resources that are partitioned between phylogenetically related or ecologically similar species (i.e., a guild). This hypothesis was tested by first elucidating phylogenetically closed Sarawak frog species via DNA sequencing of the 16S rRNA mitochondrial DNA gene, and later determining their microhabitat guild and partitioning via nonmetric dimensional scale. Mitochondrial 16S gene revealed 5 monophyletic groups consisting of Hylarana erythraea + Amnirana nicobariensis, Chalcorana raniceps, Abavorana luctuosa, Pulchrana signata + P. picturata, and P. baramica + P. glandulosa + P. laterimaculata. Monthly samples from commercial catches obtained with purse seiners operating in the Croatian fishing grounds (eastern Adriatic Sea) were collected throughout 2013, excluding January and December due to a fishing ban. Overall, 1010 sardine individuals were analyzed. Total body length ranged from 10.4 to 17.6 cm (mean ± SD: 13.9 ± 1.28 cm). Slightly larger individuals were caught during autumn at the beginning of the spawning season. Analysis of length-mass relationship showed that sardine specimens grow isometrically (b = 3.063). The zerconid mites collected from İstanbul Province between January 2012 and September 2013 are evaluated and the following species are recorded: Prozercon balıkesirensis, P. buraki, P. carpathofimbriatus, P. demirsoyi, P. fimbriatus, P. satapliae, P. sultani, P. traegardhi, P. yavuzi, Zercon colligans, Z. cretensis, Z. inonuensis, Z. istanbulensis, Z. laczii, Z. lepurus, Z. marinae, and Z. nemoralis. Of these, P. carpathofimbriatus, Z. cretensis, Z. laczii, and Z. marinae are recorded for the first time from Turkey. The aim of this study was to identify differences between different types of water body within the same river basin by comparing the composition of the zooplankton community. The study was conducted in three types of water body in the Sakarya Basin in northwestern Turkey: an alluvial barrier lake (Lake Poyrazlar), a pond (Sorgun Pond), and a reservoir (Çubuk II Reservoir). The spatiotemporal changes of these three types of aquatic habitats were investigated in terms of the zooplankton organisms by examining their diversity, evenness, and differences in the abundance of species. In 2001, Przewalski's horse (Equus przewalskii) was reintroduced into a Eurasian desert-steppe transitional area in China. Recent studies of Przewalski's horse have not examined the relationship between food patches and the horse's feeding choice behavior. This study aimed to study the vegetation communities of the reintroduction area and combine this information with feeding time data to explore the foraging strategy of Przewalski's horse. A total of 588 vegetation patches were surveyed, which were divided into 27 vegetation clusters. Snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is an elusive endangered carnivore found in remote mountain regions of Central Asia, with sparse distribution in northern Pakistan, including Chitral and Baltistan. The present study determined the food habits of snow leopard, including preferred prey species and seasonal variation in diet. Fifty-six scat samples were collected and analyzed to determine the diet composition in two different seasons, i.e. summer and winter. Hair characteristics such as cuticular scale patterns and medullary structure were used to identify the prey.
