Protonation Behavior Of Dextran Amino Acid Esters, Konrad Hotzel, Lidjia Fras Zemljic, Matej Bracic, Thomas Heinze Jan 2019

Protonation Behavior Of Dextran Amino Acid Esters, Konrad Hotzel, Lidjia Fras Zemljic, Matej Bracic, Thomas Heinze

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Dextran esters of different amino acids (glycine, $\beta $-alanine, L-ornithine, L-lysine) are investigated regarding their pK$_{a}$ values by potentiometric titration. The pK$_{a}$ values of the dextran derivatives are generally dependent on the position of the amino group in relation to the ester group, i.e. the nearer they are located in the molecule, the lower the resulting pK$_{a}$ values are, L-ornithine ester being the exception. An influence of the polymer backbone is ruled out. Stability against hydrolysis at different pH values and over longer periods at constant pH value is measured by potentiometric and polyelectrolyte titration. The $\beta $-alanine ester shows …

Sensitive Biological Detection Based On Langmuir--Blodgett Films Prepared From Diluted Silica Suspensions, Numan Gözübenli̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Self-assembled three-dimensional (3-D) colloidal crystals have been extensively utilized in nanolithography for fabricating a wide spectrum of functional periodic nanostructures for important technological applications. Here a simple and versatile way is reported using silica colloids to prepare close-packed particle multilayers by the Langmuir--Blodgett technique to create highly ordered 3-D colloidal crystals with unusual nanoarrays on a large variety of substrates. Successive deposition of monolayers using amphiphilic molecules in this approach allows control of the layer thickness, particle size, and especially packing structure of them in each layer. It has been demonstrated that the Langmuir--Blodgett film's transparency and high antiglare optical …

Novel "Turn Off-On" Sensors For Detection Of Dna-Acrylamide Interaction Using Zns Quantum Dots As A Phosphorescent Probe, Hayri̇ye Eda Şatana Kara Jan 2019

Novel "Turn Off-On" Sensors For Detection Of Dna-Acrylamide Interaction Using Zns Quantum Dots As A Phosphorescent Probe, Hayri̇ye Eda Şatana Kara

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A novel "turn off-on" sensor for detection of interaction between DNA and acrylamide (ACR) was developed. In this method, L-cysteine capped Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were used as room temperature phosphorescent probes. In the ``turn-off'' mode, ACR was absorbed onto the surface of QDs via electrostatic interaction, which caused a quenching effect of room-temperature phosphorescence signal by photoinduced electron-transfer mechanism. ACR was removed from the QDs' surface with the addition of DNA. Thus, the phosphorescence emission of QDs was recovered and the system was turned to the ``turn-on'' mode. The quenching mechanism of QDs by ACR was collisional (dynamic) …

Logarithms of experimental bioconcentration data (logBCF) were used as dependent variables and the physicochemical properties of the aromatic compound congeners were used as independent variables. Furthermore, the molecular holographic quantitative structure--activity relationship (HQSAR) model constructed by the HQSAR module in Sybyl software was used to establish a method to find molecular activity substitution sites of bioconcentration potential by coupling the molecule …

Computational Investigation Of Influenza A Virus M2 Protein Inhibition Mechanism By Ion Channel Blockers, Mehmet Özbi̇l Jan 2019

Computational Investigation Of Influenza A Virus M2 Protein Inhibition Mechanism By Ion Channel Blockers, Mehmet Özbi̇l

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The M2 protein of the influenza A virus, responsible for flu, is a homotetramer transmembrane protein, forming a transmembrane ion channel, where His 37s act as pH sensors and Trp 41s and Asp 44s act as channel gates. Opening of this channel leads to transfer of virus RNA into the human host. Thus, blocking this transfer is an important pharmaceutical strategy to stop infection. As a result of viral drug resistance, commercially available channel inhibitors, rimantadine (RIM) and amantadine (AMA), are not as effective as they used to be. Understanding binding sites and outcomes of binding will lead to new …

Stability Improvement By Crosslinking Of Previously Immobilized Glucose Oxidase On Carbon Nanotube-Based Bioanode, Tahsi̇n Bahar

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Bioanode stability with glucose oxidase was enhanced significantly by covalent crosslinking without substantial enzymatic activity and affinity loss. Initially, glucose oxidase was immobilized by aldehyde groups on the electrode that was developed using ferrocenecarboxaldehyde, polyethyleneimine, multiwall carbon nanotubes, and carbon cloth for biofuel cell applications. The glucose oxidase half-life was extended by more than 4 times, from 27.2 to 124.7 h, after the electrode was crosslinked. Enzymatic kinetic parameters were determined for the crosslinked enzyme and they were compared to the noncrosslinked immobilized enzyme parameters on the electrode. The apparent substrate affinity of the crosslinked enzyme electrode was decreased (i.e. …

Moderate Level Of Toxic Boron Causes Differential Regulation Of Micrornas Related To Jasmonate And Ethylene Metabolisms In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Doğa Seli̇n Kayihan, Ceyhun Kayihan, Yelda Özden Çi̇ftçi̇

Turkish Journal of Botany

Earlier our colleagues detected that the genes related to jasmonate (JA), ethylene, and cell wall modification were significantly regulated under boron (B) toxicity in wheat. Determination of regulation mechanisms of these novel genes under B toxicity is very important in Arabidopsis thaliana as a model plant. As key regulators, the microRNAs (miRNAs) regulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level and respond to numerous abiotic stresses in plants. In this study, expression levels of miRNAs such as miR159, miR172, miR319, and miR394 targeting JA and ethylene-related transcription factors and also miR397 targeting laccase were determined in Arabidopsis thaliana under toxic B …
