Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The nutritional effects of supplementing the diets of dairy cows during the dry period with anionic salts and probiotic, on some blood parameters, milk production and composition and the development of milk fever, were evaluated in 20 Holstein cattle (>3^rd lactation). Diets were composed of a mixture of hay (70%) and commercial concentrate (30%) with and without supplemental anionic salts. These diets were given to cows during the 3 weeks prior to calving. Cows in the probiotic group also received 5g/day probiotic orally during this period. The cation/ anion balances of the diets were determined to be -67.77 and …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study was conducted to determine the effects of chromium picolinate (CrPi) added into diet containing 710.3 ppb chromium on yield and nutrient digestibility of laying hens at low temperature. Forty-six-week-old laying hens were randomly assigned to four groups of 30 hens per group. Treatment groups were fed different supplemental dietary chromium levels. Thus, hens were fed diets with no supplemental chromium (Control Group), 100 ppb of supplemental chromium (100 Group), 200 ppb of supplemental chromium (200 Group) and 400 ppb of supplemental chromium (400 Group). Diet chromium concentration was detected by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy. Body weight, feed …

Fermentation Of Glucose And Fructose By Leuconostoc Mesenteroides, Hüseyi̇n Erten
Fermentation Of Glucose And Fructose By Leuconostoc Mesenteroides, Hüseyi̇n Erten
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The preferred order of glucose and fructose uptake by Leuconostoc mesenteroides was investigated in Glucose Fructose Yeast Extract Amino Acid medium with and without the addition of salt under anaerobic conditions. Strains NCIMB 8023 and NCFB 811 preferentially utilised glucose over fructose. A higher biomass was obtained when employing strain NCIMB 8023 compared with strain NCFB 811. The strains studied produced lactate and ethanol as major end-products, with lactate synthesis being greater than ethanol. Small amounts of acetate and mannitol were also formed.

Electroreduction Of Some Diazine And Triazine Pesticides At The Dropping Mercury Electrode, Petr Zuman, Marina Privman, Masami Shibata, Jiri Ludvik
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Electroanalytical methods enable determination of electroactive species in nonhomogeneous systems, as limiting currents are little affected by the presence of solid and colloidal particles. An example of such applications of electrochemical methods are studies of binding of toxic substances, such as pesticides, on slightly soluble polymers, such as lignin. To successfully apply polarographic methods for following free pesticides in a slurry of lignin, it is first necessary in principle to elucidate the electrochemical processes involved. In aqueous buffered solutions the electron transfers, in which organic compounds participate, are in the majority of cases accompanied by chemical reactions. To elucidate the …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this greenhouse study, the effects of irrigation water salinity in relation with the amounts of irrigation water on broccoli yields and mineral contents were investigated. For this purpose, five salinity levels (EC i =0.25-control, 1, 3, 6 and 9 dS/m) and 3 amounts of water (80, 100 and 120% of required water)were used in a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with 3 replications. The fresh yields, biomass and total ash contents were determined and evaluated. While the yields were affected by both salinity and irrigation water levels, the biomass and total ash contents were affected only by …

This research was implemented to determine the factors causing iron chlorosis observed in peach trees in the Bursa region. For this purpose, four peach orchards having trees with various degrees of chlorosis were selected. Soil and leaf samples were collected during a two year period. According to the results, chlorophyll, total Fe and active Fe contents of the leaves were negatively correlated with soil pH and lime (CaCO 3 ) and the active lime content of the soils. Significant positive correlations were found between organic matter content of the soils and chlorophyll, total Fe and active Fe content of the …

The Effects Of Storage Periods On Some Quality Features Of Various-Sized Potato Varieties, Kemalleti̇n Kara
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study, the effects of storage periods on some quality features of various dimensioned potatoes types were examined (2.5-5.0 cm, 5.0-6.5 cm and greater than 6.5 cm). The effects of storage duration on all properties except for the dry matter content were statistically significant. It was observed that with the extension of storage period, weight gain of the tubers decreased, and the other properties were not stable. There was no statistical significance among the tuber sizes in terms of specific weight, dry matter, the ratio of starch and protein and chip productivity, but weight loss and fat absorption ratio …

Also once a month biomass, P, Zn and Mn content of dry matter biomass and mycorrhizal infection were also determined. The results …
Effect Of Zinc Microelement On Quality Of Some Wheat Cultivars Grown In Central Anatolia, Gülcan Kinaci
Effect Of Zinc Microelement On Quality Of Some Wheat Cultivars Grown In Central Anatolia, Gülcan Kinaci
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Almost half of the cultivated areas of Turkey have been found to be zinc deficient. This deficiency is even more serious in Central Anatolia, the large cereal-producing region. Zinc is an essential element for nourishing plants, and also for normal development and functioning of humans and animals. Meeting the daily zinc requirement from diet is very difficult for people whose daily energy intake is based on cereals. However, wheat bread by itself contributes 40-70 % of daily energy intake for Turkish people. One way to overcome this problem is by increasing the zinc content of wheat by applying zinc to …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Under salinity stress, growth and variations in proline, Na, Cl, P and K concentrations of three chickpea varieties (Canitez- 87, ILC-195/2 and Damla), which are cultivated widely in Turkey, were investigated. For this purpose, experimental soil was salinized with 68 mmol kg ^{-1}NaCl. The salinity responses of chickpea varieties were compared by means of various plant parameters. According to the results, Damla was affected by salinity stress much more than Canitez-87 and ILC-195/2 cultivars. However, under salinity stress, the dry weight of the Damla variety was influenced much less than the others. Sodium and Cl contents were generally found to …

Determination Of Freshness And Chemical Compositon Of Scad ( Trachurus Trachurus, L. 1758) Stored In Refrigerator, Gülgün F. Ünal Şengör, Ufuk Çeli̇k, Sevi̇lsen Akkuş
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study was carried out to determine the freshness and chemical composition of scad stored at +2C - +4°C. As a result of bacterial activities and chemical changes in fish meat TMAO breaks down to TMA, DMA and FA. In the fish meat the amounts of these compounds are important for the determination of the freshness of fish meat. Breakdown of TMAO into DMA and FA has an effect on the properties of the texture of the fish. Hence we attempted to distinguish the textural characteristics of the stored fish with sensorial analysis. It was detected that the results of …

Using Goal Programming In Rational And Economical Animal Nutrition, İsmet Doğan, Nurhan Doğan, Abdulkadi̇r Akcan
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Animal nutrition is one of the important problems of people involved in animal breeding. It is essential that animals get sufficient and well-balanced nutrition to be healthy. Especially obtaining the necessary food elements from cheaper food sources becomes a major concern when ensuring sufficient and well-balanced nutrition in animal breeding. The Goal Programming Method is an improved method for solving multi-objective problems. In solving these types of problem, it cannot be expected that all the goals can be exactly obtained. The results of multi-objective problem solutions are affected by the decision of the manager or decision maker. Therefore, when there …
