The objective of this study was to evaluate the agromorphological characteristics of the Turkish Swiss chard genetic resources, and to determine their genetic relationships and diversity. To achieve this, a total of 52 Swiss chard accessions from a wide range of environmental and geographical origins in Turkey and two cultivars (one local and one foreign) were investigated. Fourteen qualitative and …

Effect Of The Ethylene Inhibitors Silver Nitrate, Silver Sulfate, And Cobalt Chloride On Micropropagation And Biochemical Parameters In The Cherryrootstocks Cab-6p And Gisela 6, Virginia Sarropoulou, Kortessa Dimassi-Theriou, Ioannis Therios

Turkish Journal of Biology

In the present study, the effects of three ethylene inhibitors, silver nitrate (AgNO3), silver sulfate (Ag2SO4), and cobalt chloride (CoCl2), on the morphogenic and biochemical responses in CAB-6P and Gisela 6 cherry rootstocks were investigated. In both rootstocks, AgNO3 and Ag2SO4 promoted shoot regeneration while CoCl2 had such an effect only in Gisela 6. The rooting percentage of CAB-6P and Gisela 6 explants was diminished with AgNO3, Ag2SO4, and CoCl2. AgNO3 increased root number (40 μM) and root length (50 μM) in the CAB-6P rootstock while it had an inhibitory effect in Gisela 6. Ag2SO4 and CoCl2 enhanced root length …

In Vitro Seed Germination, Plantlet Growth, Tuberization, And Syntheticseed Production Of Serapias Vomeracea (Burm.F.) Briq., Ersan Bektaş, Atalay Sökmen Jan 2016

In Vitro Seed Germination, Plantlet Growth, Tuberization, And Syntheticseed Production Of Serapias Vomeracea (Burm.F.) Briq., Ersan Bektaş, Atalay Sökmen

Turkish Journal of Botany

Orchids are considered recalcitrant plants in in vitro propagation. Due to the lack of appropriate micropropagation techniques for mass production and damage to their ecological distribution posed by local gatherers, these species are threatened with extinction, including Serapias vomeracea (Burm.f.) Briq. In this research, we put forward a complete micropropagation method covering in vitro micropropagation, synthetic seed formation, germination in soil, and acclimatization to ambient conditions. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of successful synthetic seed formation and germination of S. vomeracea. Initially, seeds were germinated in different culture media and also media supplemented with …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Fusarium culmorum is a principal causal agent of root, crown, and foot rot disease in the wheat-growing areas of Turkey. The effects of different fertilization practices, fungicide sprays, and cultivar reactions of 12 wheat varieties were investigated for disease development in greenhouse conditions in 2006-2007. The fertilizers used in the experiments significantly reduced disease by 27.5%-54.7% compared to the nonfertilized control. The plants fertilized with calcium ammonium nitrate (26% N) or composite NPK (15%, 15%, 15%) showed fewer disease symptoms than those fertilized with NPK (20%, 20%, 0%) in the presowing applications. On the other hand, foot rot severity was …

Influence Of Nacl-Salinity On Pb-Uptake Behavior And Growth Of River Red Gum Tree (Eucalyptus Camaldulensis Dehnh.), Muhammad Farrakh Nawaz, Sadaf Gul, Muhammad Ayyoub Tanvir, Javaid Akhtar, Samira Chaudary, Irfan Ahmad Jan 2016

Influence Of Nacl-Salinity On Pb-Uptake Behavior And Growth Of River Red Gum Tree (Eucalyptus Camaldulensis Dehnh.), Muhammad Farrakh Nawaz, Sadaf Gul, Muhammad Ayyoub Tanvir, Javaid Akhtar, Samira Chaudary, Irfan Ahmad

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Lead (Pb) is one of the most toxic and persistent elements, with no known biological role. High concentrations of lead enter saline soils through anthropogenic activities and industrial waste. The decontamination of Pb polluted sites through phytoremediation, especially by using woody plants, is an attractive approach. Eucalyptus camaldulensis is a good accumulator of Pb and a recommended tree species for reclamation of saline soils. However, there is very limited knowledge about the Pb-uptake behavior of Eucalyptus camaldulensis under saline conditions. The objective of this study was to examine the simultaneous impact of NaCl salinity and Pb stress on the phytoremedial …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Rice is one of the most important crop plants as well as a model organism used for genetic studies. Transposons, especially retrotransposons, have a significant impact on the rice genome. A considerable percentage of the rice genome is composed of transposons (about 35%). Thus, transposons are an important internal factor for the genome evolution of rice varieties. In this study, we performed fing?erprint analyses of 37 Oryza sativa L. Cultivars using an IRAP marker. For this purpose, we designed IRAP primers specific to Houba (Tos5/Osr13), RIRE1 and Hopi (Osr27), and Osr30 retrotransposons, the most abundant retrotransposons in the rice genome. …
