Background/aim: Fetuin-A, a circulating inhibitor of calcification, is a marker of inflammatory-nutritional state. We evaluated the association between serum fetuin-A levels and vascular calcification, intima-media thickness, and nutritional and inflammatory markers in different stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Materials and methods: CKD patients were sampled for calcium-phosphate parameters and nutritional and inflammatory markers [highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)], and serum fetuin-A levels. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of reuse of progesterone-releasing intravaginal devices (PRIVDs) on serum progesterone, estrogen levels, and ovulatory follicle diameter in pubertal heifers. Three pubertal Holstein heifers were used in the study for three different periods with the usage of three PRIVDs up to three times from day 0 to 7 according to the Latin square model. The aim herein was to evaluate the effects of the induction of parturition using repeated low doses of dexamethasone in cattle. A total of 28 Simmental cows were used for the induction of parturition (n = 20) or served as controls (n = 8). Parturition was induced by a 1.6-mg intramuscular (IM) injection of dexamethasone twice daily for 6 days, beginning on day 270, and a 40-mg IM injection of dexamethasone on day 276. A new attempt was undertaken to check the reproductive capabilities of male hybrids bred from European bison (Bison bonasus) and domestic cattle (Bos taurus). The analysis concerned two hybrids aged 1.5?2.5 years (the latter being sampled twice at 6-month intervals), and additionally one 1.5-year-old backcross hybrid. Examination of testicular tissue revealed halting of spermatogenesis, which was hardly ever able to proceed further than meiosis I. Spermatogenesis was arrested at the stage of spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes. Spermatozoa were found only in the case of one hybrid and these were mostly malformed. The aim of this study was to investigate nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA), beta-hydroxy butyric acid (BHBA), and milk urea nitrogen (MUN) profiles for dairy cows fed with rumen-protected choline (RPC) during the transition period. A total of 30 dairy cows were allocated to one control and two experimental groups (10 animals per group) and were fed from 3 weeks before calving to 21 days in milk. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status of children with cerebral palsy and determine the particular characteristics of the disorder. Materials and methods: The nutritional status of the children was assessed by the Gomez classification using weight-for-age. The Gross Motor Function Classification System was used to determine the gross and fine motor functions.Results: The study was conducted with 197 children (58.4% males) between the ages of 1 and 18 years old. The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the effectiveness of oral iron therapy in breath-holding spells and evaluation of electrocardiographical changes.Materials and methods: Three hundred twelve children aged 1-48 months and diagnosed with breath-holding spells between January 2017 and April 2018 were included. Patients' laboratory findings were compared with 100 patients who had one simple febrile seizure.Results: Cyanotic breath-holding spells were diagnosed in 85.3% (n = 266) of patients, pallid spells in 5.1% (n = 16), and mixed-type spells in 9.6% (n = 30). he current study aims to compare sugar beet leaves (SBLs) ensiled with sugar beet pulp (SBP), sugarcane molasses (SM), or rock candy juice (RCJ) using an in vitro gas production technique. Treatments in the first group included 10% SBP (control 1) and control 1 plus 5% SM or RCJ. In the second group, there were 3 treatments, including 20% SBP (control 2) and control 2 plus 10% SM or RCJ. The silages with no added soluble carbohydrate (SC) sources had significantly higher (P < 0.001) pH, buffer value index, and ammonia nitrogen values than the other treatments. However, there was no significant difference between RCJ and SM in their effect on these variables. Adding both levels of SC sources caused an increase in dry matter digestibility compared to those that only included SBL and SBP (P < 0.001). Maximal and rate of gas production from slowly fermentable fraction (a$_{2}$) were significantly greater when the substrate contained 85%, 10%, and 5% SBL, SBP, and SC sources, respectively. Using dried SBP and SC sources for the preservation of fresh SBL is recommended; however, with higher levels of SC, the silage may be at risk of spoilage, and it must be less exposed to air.

This study evaluated the effects of amylopectin (A) and chromium (Cr) forms alone or in combination on energy storage, muscle fatigue-related biochemical markers, and expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR-γ) and glucose transporter-2 and -4 (GLUT-2 and GLUT-4) in rats during exhaustive exercise. The viability and body measurements of calves raised in the Livestock Research Center of Afyon Kocatepe University between 2008 and 2011 were investigated. The research was conducted on 188 calves of buffalo cows brought from different regions of Turkey. An aqueous two-phase extraction system was constituted using magnetic ionic liquid-nonionic surfactant for phenolic acids and the developed method was applied to apple, grape, pear, and banana samples. Ionic liquids based on imidazolium containing butyl, allyl, and benzyl groups were used for extraction. The parameters influencing the extraction efficiency such as volume of ionic liquids, type and amount of surfactant and salt, ultrasound extraction time, temperature, and sample pH were optimized. In the present work, the compositions of the 27 triacylglycerols (TAGs) as well as fatty acid composition of Chilopsis linearis seed oil were determined by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) with diode array and mass spectrometric detections. It was shown that the main conjugated acid in the seed oil is a catalpic acid, (9E,11E,13Z)-octadeca-9,11,13-trienoic acid, while two unusual fatty acids have the parameters satisfying the literature data for (10E,12E)-octadeca-10,12-dienoic and (9E,12E)-octadeca-9,12-dienoic acids. In recent years, experimental and clinical studies have shown that pomegranate intake lowers blood pressure. In this study, novel 2-substituted benzimidazoles molecules having triazole, thiadiazole, and oxadiazole rings were synthesized and were evaluated by anticancer, antioxidant/oxidant status, genotoxicity, and antiangiogenesis assays. Anticancer activity of the compounds was determined by MTT (0.5, 5, and 50 $\mu $g/mL) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assays against human prostate and breast cancer cells. In the present study, the antioxidant properties of peripherally and nonperipherally water-soluble tetra (quinoline 5-sulfonic acid) substituted metal-free (1,2), Zn(II) (3, 4), Co(II) (5, 6), and Mn(III)Cl (7, 8) phthalocyanine (Pc) derivatives were reported. In order to determine the antioxidant properties of the Pc compounds, three different commonly known antioxidant methods were used: DPPH ($\alpha $,$\alpha $-diphenyl-$\beta $-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging, ferrous ion chelating, and reducing power assays. The content of selected compounds was compared among different spear sections (the tip, the middle, and the base) of green (Ariane F1, Dariana F1, Darsiane F1, Mondeo F1, Primaverde F1, and Viridis F1) and purple (Burgundine F1 and Pacific Purple F1) asparagus cultivars. Sugars, organic acids, anthocyanins, flavonols, flavones, and hydroxycinnamic acids were determined by HPLC. No significant differences in the content of organic acids, sugars, and hydroxycinnamic acids were detected among cultivars. However, purple cultivars contained the highest levels of anthocyanins. Globe artichoke (Cynara cardunculus L. var. scolymus Fiori) is an economically important crop in the Mediterranean basin and particularly in Italy, which is a leading producer. In this research, we studied the effect of extended photoperiod (15 and 17 h) on polyphenolic, flavonoids, lignin concentrations, and antioxidant activity in edible and inedible organs of artichoke. The influence of day length on morphological traits and biomass accumulation was also assessed.
