Development And Optimization Of A Novel Spectroscopic Method To Monitor Crystallization Behavior Of Bcs-Ii Drug, Uditi Handa, Anuj Malik, Kumar Guarve
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
This study investigated the crystallization behavior of dextromethorphan hydrobromide, a class II drug, to improve understanding of its supersaturation potential and formulation design. Conventional methods often lack the sensitivity or scalability needed for accurate detection of early nucleation events. To overcome these limitations, a novel process tracks real-time absorbance below turbidity levels to detect early molecular aggregation and phase separation. Crystallization kinetics of the drug was assessed at concentrations of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mg/mL using three analytical techniques, namely, isothermal crystallization (baseline), ultraviolet (UV) absorbance (turbidity monitoring, UV-TM), and an optimized UV absorbance graphical method (UV-GM) (novel process). Induction …

Investigating The Structure And Bioactivity Of Lanthanum Coordination Compounds, Shantanu Kadam, Bhushan Dhale, Bapu Yamgar, Swaminath Bhattar
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Lanthanum metal complexes were synthesized using a classical condensation method by reacting lanthanum nitrate salts with a bidentate ligand in a 1:2:1 molar ratio (M:L:L). The formation and structure of the resulting complexes were confirmed through a combination of analytical techniques, including Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, elemental microanalysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The lanthanum complexes synthesized exhibited strong in vitro antimicrobial activity. Antibacterial screening showed inhibition zones of 18–26 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, surpassing those of the reference drug ciprofloxacin (16–20 mm). Antifungal studies demonstrated inhibition zones of 15–23 mm against Candida …

CaMoO4:Eu3+-functionalized hydroxyapatite–silica (HAp–SiO2–CaMoO4:Eu3+) core–shell nanocomposites were synthesized for the first time and evaluated as a multifunctional drug delivery and imaging platform. HAp–SiO2 nanocomposites were prepared via a hydrothermal route and subsequently functionalized with a luminescent CaMoO4:Eu3+ shell using the Pechini sol–gel method. Structural analyses confirmed the successful coexistence of HAp, SiO2, and CaMoO4:Eu3+ phases, while electron microscopy revealed spherical core–shell morphologies. Dynamic light scattering measurements showed average hydrodynamic particle sizes of approximately 1085 nm for HAp–SiO2 and 1427 nm for HAp–SiO2–CaMoO4:Eu3+ nanocomposites, indicating particle clustering in aqueous media, which is consistent with the low surface charge of the particles. The …

Abelson-1 (ABL-1) is a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase that plays essential roles in various cellular processes, including proliferation, survival, differentiation and its kinase activity is tightly regulated. The dysregulated ABL-1 kinase activity is linked to disease pathogenesis like Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), where the BCR::ABL-1 fusion oncoprotein drives oncogenic signaling. Due to its central role in CML pathogenesis, understanding the structure of ABL-1 is crucial for the effective management of the disease and drug development studies. This study focuses on optimizing the expression, purification and crystallization of the recombinant human ABL-1 kinase domain for its structural analysis via X-ray crystallography and …

Influence Of Plasticizer Type On The Structure And Drug Release Characteristics Of Lm-Pectin Hydrogels, Banu Kocaağa, Fatma Seni̇ha Güner
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
This study investigated the effects of different plasticizers—castor oil (CO), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and polyethylene glycol (PEG) with varying molecular weights (MWs)—on the structure and drug-release performance of low-methoxyl pectin (LM-pectin) hydrogels. Theophylline was used as a model drug to evaluate release behavior under physiologically relevant conditions. The incorporation of plasticizers modulated polymer–polymer interactions, swelling behavior, and thermal properties, thereby affecting drug-release kinetics. CO, a hydrophobic triglyceride, created microdomain-induced diffusion pathways; PVP, containing water-affinitive lactam units, facilitated moisture-driven plasticization; and PEG (MW 400/1000/1500), with hydroxyl-terminated chains, established hydrogen bonds with pectin. Structural analyses (FTIR and DSC) revealed that CO disrupted pectin …

Comparative Computational Study Of Sulfur-Donor Additives For Stabilization Of Fapbi3 Perovskites, Ilnar Nurgaliev, Akbarxon Hamzayev, Murad Marasulov, Zavkiddin Julliev, Akhmad Oblakulov, Nigmat Ashurov
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A multiscale computational investigation integrating density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations was conducted to elucidate the mechanisms through which sulfur-containing donor molecules stabilize the photoactive α-phase of formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) perovskites. The binding energetics, charge-transfer behavior, and hydrogen-bonding interactions of thiourea (TU), thiosemicarbazide (TSC), thiocyanate (SCN–), and diethyldithiocarbamate (DTC) were systematically analyzed. DFT results revealed pronounced Pb–S coordination and multidentate hydrogenbonding, with binding energies following the trend SCN–>TSC>DTC>TU. Thermodynamic analysis demonstrated that these additives lower the Gibbs free energy difference, thereby stabilizing the black α-phase, with TSC, TU, and to a lesser extent …

Structure–Activity Modeling And Hybrid Machine Learning-Based Prediction Of Bioactivity In Pyrazole Derivatives For Drug Discovery Applications, Kader Şahi̇n, Serhat Kiliçarslan, Serdar Durdaği, Emi̇n Saripinar
Turkish Journal of Biology
Background/aim: Pyrazole derivatives are of growing interest due to their diverse pharmacological activities. However, their biological activity is often highly sensitive to subtle structural modifications. Existing quantitative structure–activity relationships (QSAR) approaches frequently fail to capture the conformational flexibility and nonlinear structure–activity relationships (SAR) of such heterocyclic scaffolds, creating a gap in the accurate prediction of their biological profiles. Therefore, there is a strong need for more robust and predictive computational frameworks. This study addresses this gap by integrating four-dimensional (4D)-QSAR descriptors with hybrid machine learning (ML) techniques to improve predictive accuracy and provide a more reliable tool for structure-based drug …
Scalar Hybrid Meson B̄Gc, Bi̇rten Barsbay İnaç
Scalar Hybrid Meson B̄Gc, Bi̇rten Barsbay İnaç
Turkish Journal of Physics
The scalar hybrid meson Hbc, containing both heavy b and c quarks, represents an intriguing exotic state in QCD. In this article, we investigate its strong decay properties using three-point QCD sum rules. We focus on the two leading decay channels, Hbc → B+ D0 and Hbc → B0 D+, which are expected to dominate the decay dynamics. The B and D mesons produced in these decays each consist of one heavy and one light quark. The strong coupling constants at the corresponding vertices are extracted, and the partial decay widths …

Outburst Characteristics Of Transient Low-Mass X-Ray Binary 4u 1608-52, Can Güngör
Turkish Journal of Physics
We present a detailed analysis of the long-term X-ray light curve of 4U 1608–52, focusing on fast-rising exponential-decay (FRED) outbursts, low-intensity states, and quiescent intervals. By calibrating the onset times of the outbursts, we identify three distinct classes for the FRED-type events: (i) the long-high outbursts, exceeding ~50 d in duration with peak count rates above ~40 cnt s-1; (ii) the short-medium outbursts, with durations of ~20 d and peak count rates of ~30-50 cnt s-1; and (iii) the short-low outbursts, also lasting ~20 d but reaching only ~20-30 cnt s-1 at peak. Furthermore, we examine the relation between preoutburst …

Turkish Journal of Physics
New experimental data on the elastic scattering of the nuclear process 15N+11B at an energy of Elab=26.25 MeV were obtained on the DC-60 cyclotron of the INP RK. Based on a semi-microscopic analysis of the interaction of an accelerated 15N ion with 1p-shell nuclei 11B the effectiveness of the new B3Y-Fetal potential was studied. . The difference between the B3Y-Fetal potential and the traditional Yukawa potentials (M3Y-Reid and M3Y-Paris) is that its density-dependent parameters are determined from the saturation condition of nuclear matter at low energy. Analysis was performed on double folding optical model (DFOM) and so no for other …
Symmetric Orthogonalization And Probabilistic Weights In Resource Quantification, Gökhan Torun
Symmetric Orthogonalization And Probabilistic Weights In Resource Quantification, Gökhan Torun
Turkish Journal of Physics
Transforming nonorthogonal bases into orthogonal ones often compromises essential properties or physical meaning in quantum systems. Here, we demonstrate that Löwdin symmetric orthogonalization (LSO) outperforms the widely used Gram–Schmidt orthogonalization (GSO) in characterizing and quantifying quantum resources, with particular emphasis on coherence and superposition. We employ LSO both to construct an orthogonal basis from a nonorthogonal one and to obtain a nonorthogonal basis from an orthogonal set, thereby mitigating ambiguity related to the basis choice in defining quantum coherence. Unlike GSO, which depends on the ordering of input states, LSO applies a symmetric transformation that treats all vectors equally and …
The 1/C Expansion Of General Relativity In A 3+1 Formulation, Revisited, Mahmut Elbi̇stan
The 1/C Expansion Of General Relativity In A 3+1 Formulation, Revisited, Mahmut Elbi̇stan
Turkish Journal of Physics
We study the 1/c expansion of general relativity within a formulation that is compatible with both the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner and the Kol-Smolkin decompositions. The Einstein-Hilbert action takes a common form for those decompositions as they are dual to each other. We first develop a method to expand this generic form and then push the expansion up to c−3 order within this novel approach. Next, we apply our technique to the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner decomposition and expand it up to c−3 order explicitly. In order to demonstrate the applicability of our method and to highlight the duality at the level of expansion, we also …
Optical Textures Of A Uniform Liquid Crystal Lattice: Monte Carlo Simulations With Newton Colors And Mueller Matrix Analysis, Yakup Emül
Turkish Journal of Physics
The optical textures of a uniform liquid crystal (LC) molecule lattice structure were explored through Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, combined with Mueller matrix (MM) formalism and Newton’s color theory. These simulations utilized a Lebwohl-Lasher (LL) type interacting LC lattice under periodic boundary conditions, generating ensemble-averaged configurations at two temperature regimes (kBT = 0.9 and 1.2), corresponding respectively to nematic and isotropic states. These configurations were then incorporated into the MM framework to evaluate the polarization states of transmitted light. To visually interpret the resulting interference phenomena, we propose a new visualization method based on a modern interpretation of Newton’s color …

Geochemical And Isotopic Signatures Of Ultramafic-Hosted Magnesite Deposit: A Case Study Of The Edige Region (Ankara-Central Anatolia), Betül Koca, Eli̇f Akiska, Zehra Karakaş, Si̇nan Akiska
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The magnesite deposit of the Edige region in Ankara-Elmadağ District of Türkiye is hosted in serpentinite/serpentinized ultramafic rocks, which are mainly harzburgite and dunite. Mineralogical and petrographic studies have shown that ultramafic rocks are composed of serpentine, olivine, and pyroxene with serpentinization preceding magnesite formation. The X-ray diffraction results reveal that dolomite, quartz, calcite, and clay minerals are the main minerals in magnesite samples from serpentinite/serpentinized ultramafic units. Olivine, pyroxene, serpentine, chromite, and iron oxide minerals are also present. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometry results show that magnesite in rhombohedral and cryptocrystalline forms is the dominant mineral accompanied …

Identification Of A Previously Unrecognized Listric Fault Beneath The Acıpayam Graben: Insights From Integrated Dinsar And Field Observations, Semi̇h Eski̇
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The 20 March 2019 Acıpayam earthquake (Mw 5.7) offers a valuable opportunity to examine the complex seismotectonic behavior of the Fethiye-Burdur Fault Zone (FBFZ), a transtensional structure in southwestern Türkiye. This study integrates field observations and focal mechanism data with differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) analysis to reassess the geometry of the causative fault. In contrast to previously proposed northeast-dipping blind fault models, the data obtained in this study indicate a southwest-dipping listric normal-fault system centered on the Yeniköy Fault, projecting beneath alluvial cover. Vertical displacement maps from Sentinel-1 show coseismic subsidence up to 5.8 cm and broader postseismic …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The karst-type bauxite deposits located in southwestern Türkiye represent the most significant bauxite resources in the country. Surrounding these bauxite deposits are widespread red soil deposits of varying sizes, developed over lithologically diverse rocks. This study aims to investigate the origin of these red soils, which were examined in two distinct groups based on their spatial relationship to the underlying geology. The first group of red soils is found on or within the fractures of karstic limestones, while the second group is primarily located in proximity to ophiolitic rocks. The investigation focused on the physical properties, as well as the …

Abic-Based Surficial Density Model Of Türkiye And Tectonic Implications, İlki̇n Özsöz
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
This study presents a surficial density model of Türkiye derived from the Akaike Bayesian Information Criterion (ABIC) inversion of terrestrial gravity data. By regularizing the gravity field through spatial smoothness constraints, the ABIC method yields optimal Bouguer reduction densities that reflect lateral variations in tectonic architecture, lithological heterogeneity, and upper crustal structure. Over 52,000 georeferenced observations reveal surficial densities ranging from 2.20 to 4.00 g/cm³, with a statistically robust mean of 2.669 ± 0.002 g/cm³ (95% confidence interval), suitable for precision gravity reduction and geodynamic applications. The derived density field delineates key tectonic domains across the Anatolian lithosphere, including extensional …

Exploitation Prioritization And Residual Risk Assessment Based On Hybrid Mcdm Model, Zibo Wang, Yaofang Zhang, Sicai Lv, Yingzhou Wang, Hongri Liu, Bailing Wang
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Exploitation is one of the most significant ways to launch attacks using vulnerabilities. The increasing number of vulnerabilities and limited allocation of security resources make it impossible to eliminate all exploitations. Because not every vulnerability can be fixed, it is necessary to rank exploitations and subsequently assess the residual risk, which is defined as the remaining threat potential after each elimination. In this paper, a structured and flexible decision support framework based on a hybrid multicriteria decision-making model is proposed for prioritizing exploitations and assessing residual risk. Metrics are treated as criteria in the model. The hybrid model is developed …

A Deep Learning-Based Real-Time No-Reference Image Decolorization Network With Perceptual Preservation, Mengjuan Zhao, Yitao Liang, Weiya Shi, Juan Xia
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Currently, grayscale images are preferred as input data for some specific vision tasks. Decolorization is the transformation of a color image into a grayscale image. Efficient decolorization algorithms can improve the overall task efficiency, while perceptual preservation in decolorization can provide more information for further processing. In recent research, traditional methods focus on preserving contrast or detail information with little attention to perceptual features. Deep-learning methods are beginning to consider perceptual preservation, but they run inefficiently. In addition, the decolorization methods lack the optimal target grayscale images for reference. Therefore, we propose a new deep learning-based real-time no-reference decolorization network …

Noninvasive Condition Monitoring For Eccentricity Fault Detection In Large Hydro Generators, Atena Tazikeh Lemeski, Di̇dem Tekgün, Ozan Keysan, Kemal Leblebi̇ci̇oğlu, Murat Göl
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Eccentricity faults in electric machines remain a critical concern, as they generate uneven magnetic forces that increase vibration and noise, ultimately raising the risk of premature motor failure. This study proposes a method for the early detection of dynamic eccentricity (DE) faults in hydropower plants through an advanced optimization-based parameter identification technique integrated with finite element analysis (FEA). Finite element modeling (FEM) is first used to analyze an existing salient-pole synchronous generator (SPSG) from a hydroelectric power plant in Türkiye. The effects of DE faults on the SPSG’s magnetic equivalent circuit parameters are then examined under various fault severities. A …

A Deep Learning Model For Accurate Tomato Leaf Disease Identification, Maheen Shahzad, Muhammad Abdullah Javed, Erum Ashraf, Hafiz Ishfaq Ahmad, Sabeen Masood
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Recent advances in machine learning and deep learning have greatly improved how we detect plant diseases, making diagnoses more accurate, faster, and easier to scale. However, many existing solutions depend on large, pretrained models that need powerful hardware, which limits their use in the field, especially in areas with limited resources. To tackle this, we designed a custom lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) built from scratch using 20,000 carefully selected images from the PlantVillage tomato dataset. Our model uses Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) blocks and Swish activation functions to boost performance, reaching an accuracy of 97.7% while using far fewer computing resources …

Nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communication presents a promising solution to the limitations of traditional orthogonal multiple access techniques, offering potential improvements in achievable rates. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), when combined with NOMA (MIMO-NOMA), further enhances these benefits by leveraging the diversity advantages of multiple antennas. Looking ahead, the future of wireless communication hinges on deploying heterogeneous networks (HetNets), facilitating the coexistence of various wireless access networks in a hierarchical fashion. However, the advent of 5G and 6G communications brings shorter channel coherence times, rendering channel reciprocity unreliable. Consequently, conventional channel estimation methods relying on uplink (UL) pilots for downlink (DL) transmission …

A Novel Approach To Maximum Weighted Traffic Flow Method For Effective Signal Control, Zülal Hi̇lal Yildiz Budak, Seyi̇t Alperen Çeltek, Aki̇f Durdu
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Traffic signal management is a critical challenge due to its environmental, economic, and public health impacts. The maximum weighted flow method (MaxWeightedFlow) was developed to optimize traffic flow at isolated and coordinated urban intersections. This study proposes a new method, the novel MaxWeightedFlow, which includes two key strategies to enhance the classical approach. The first strategy reduces computational burden by estimating vehicle approach times based on instantaneous speeds, improving real-time performance. The second employs regression analysis to optimize the alpha parameter, representing the vehicle waiting coefficient. The proposed approach, the novel MaxWeightedFlow, was evaluated using real-world traffic data from Kilis, …
