Convergence Of A Linearly Regularized Nonlinear Wave Equation To The P-System, Hüsnü Ata Erbay, Saadet Erbay, Albert Kohen Erki̇p Jan 2023

Convergence Of A Linearly Regularized Nonlinear Wave Equation To The P-System, Hüsnü Ata Erbay, Saadet Erbay, Albert Kohen Erki̇p

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We consider a second-order nonlinear wave equation with a linear convolution term. When the convolution operator is taken as the identity operator, our equation reduces to the classical elasticity equation which can be written as a $p$-system of first-order differential equations. We first establish the local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem. We then investigate the behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problem in the limit as the kernel function of the convolution integral approaches to the Dirac delta function, that is, in the vanishing dispersion limit. We consider two different types of the vanishing dispersion limit behaviors for the convolution …

Hahn-Hamiltonian Systems, Bi̇lender Paşaoğlu, Hüseyi̇n Tuna Jan 2023

Hahn-Hamiltonian Systems, Bi̇lender Paşaoğlu, Hüseyi̇n Tuna

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we study the basic theory of regular Hahn-Hamiltonian systems. In this context, we establish an existence and uniqueness result. We introduce the corresponding maximal and minimal operators for this system and some properties of these operators are investigated. Moreover, we give a criterion under which these operators are self-adjoint. Finally, an expansion theorem is proved.

A Study On Conformable Fractional Version Of Bullen-Type Inequalities, Fati̇h Hezenci̇, Hüseyi̇n Budak, Hasan Kara

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we give an equality for the case of differentiable convex functions involving conformable fractional integrals. Bullen-type inequalities for the conformable fractional integrals are established by using this equality. Some important inequalities are obtained by taking advantage of the convexity, the Hölder inequality and the power mean inequality. By using special choices, we present some known results in the literature. Furthermore, we give an example using a graph in order to show that our main results are correct.

Some Fractional Dirac Systems, Yüksel Yalçinkaya

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this work, including $\alpha\epsilon(0,1)$; we examined the Dirac system in the frame which includes$\ \alpha$ order right and left Reimann-Liouville fractional integrals and derivatives with exponential kernels, and the Dirac system which includes $\alpha$ order right and left Caputo fractional integrals and derivatives with exponential kernels. Furthermore, we have given some definitions and properties for discrete exponential kernels and their associated fractional sums and fractional differences, and we have studied discrete fractional Dirac systems.

Biharmonic Pnmcv Submanifolds In Euclidean 5-Space, Rüya Şen, Nuretti̇n Cenk Turgay

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this article, we study 3-dimensional biconservative and biharmonic submanifolds of $\mathbb{E}^5$ with parallel normalized mean curvature vector (PNMCV). First, we prove that the principal curvartures and principal directions of biconservative PNMCV isometric immersions into $\mathbb{E}^5$ can be determined intrinsically. Then, we complete the proof of Chen's biharmonic conjecture for PNMCV submanifolds of $\mathbb{E}^5$.

An Inverse Problem Of Finding A Time-Dependent Coefficient In A Fractional Diffusion Equation, Durdimurod Durdiev, Dilshod Durdiev Jan 2023

An Inverse Problem Of Finding A Time-Dependent Coefficient In A Fractional Diffusion Equation, Durdimurod Durdiev, Dilshod Durdiev

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This article is concerned with the study of unique solvability of an inverse coefficient problem of determining the coefficient at the lower term of a fractional diffusion equation. The direct problem is the initial-boundary problem for this equation with usual initial and homogeneous Dirichlet conditions. To determine the unknown coefficient, an overdetermination condition is given as the Neumann condition at the left end of the spatial interval. The theorems of existence and uniqueness of inverse problem solution are obtained. Furthermore, we propose a numerical algorithm based on a finite-difference scheme to accurately compute the inverse problem of simultaneously determining a …

The First Application Of The Luminescence Surface Exposure Dating Method On Active Fault Scarps In The Western Anatolia Extensional Province: The Manisa Fault As An Example, Mustafa Softa, Eren Şahi̇ner, Hasan Sözbi̇li̇r, Joel Qg Spencer, Mehmet Utku, Mehmet Fati̇h Büyüktopcu

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

While there has been significant research on the dating of paleoearthquakes using methods such as surface cosmogenic dating, and trench-based luminescence or radiocarbon dating, this paper focuses on implementing an alternative surface dating method using a fault scarp-based optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating approach. Hence for the first time, we investigated the Pleistocene to Holocene earthquake cycle of the Manisa Fault, one of the dip-slip active faults of the Western Anatolia extensional province, utilizing novel OSL surface exposure techniques. In this technique, OSL bleaching profiles on the fault surface are directly related to the exposure of the fresh fault scarps …

Lithological Mapping Of Ophiolitic Rocks From Southern Part Of The Sivas Basin (Turkey) Using Aster Imagery, Taner Eki̇ci̇ Jan 2023

Lithological Mapping Of Ophiolitic Rocks From Southern Part Of The Sivas Basin (Turkey) Using Aster Imagery, Taner Eki̇ci̇

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The east-west extended Sivas Basin in central-eastern Anatolia is a foreland basin that formed after the obduction of the Tethyan ophiolite during the late Cretaceous and is also a north-verging fold-and-thrust belt. The basement rocks of the basin represent mainly sedimentary (Mesozoic platform-type carbonates) and late Cretaceous Divriği ophiolitic complex. As the ophiolitic rocks are affected by intense tectonic processes, field-based mapping studies require long processes and costs. The study tests to reveal the lithological features of the ophiolitic complex outcropping around the Ulaş district of the Sivas Province using remote sensing methods and techniques. Due to arid climatic conditions …

New Geodetic Constraints On The Role Of Faults And Blocks Vs. New Geodetic Constraints On The Role Of Faults And Blocks Vs. Distribute Strain In The Nubia-Arabia-Eurasia Zone Of Active Plate Interactions, Semi̇h Ergi̇ntav, Michael Floyd, Demitris Paradissis, Hayrullah Karabulut, Philippe Vernant, Frederic Masson, Ivan Georgiev, Ali̇ Özgün Konca, Uğur Doğan, Robert King, Robert Reilinger

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

We present a broad view of present-day motions and deformations derived from uniform processing of GNSS observations within the Nubia-Arabia-Eurasia zone of plate interaction. The new observations we present provide a ~29% increase in the number of velocity determinations, a reduction in average station spacing from ~76 km to ~39 km, and an improvement in velocity uncertainties (for < 1 mm/year), from 180 to 578 sites compared to our prior published solution (Reilinger et al., 2006). We use these new constraints to better evaluate the role of faults and blocks in controlling the character of continental deformation within the zone of plate interactions. Simple elastic block models show that internal deformation of the region occurs in large part on mapped, seismically active fault systems, indicating elastic behavior of the seismogenic crust (above ~15 km). For example, eastern central Anatolia, an area of > ~126,000 km2, bounded by the North and East Anatolian Faults exhibits internal velocity differences of < 0.5 mm/year, indicating strain rates of < ~1.5 nanostrain/year. Geodetically constrained fault slip rates obtained from this simplified approach are comparable to geologic rates, indicating that major faults have controlled the recent geologic evolution of the region (i.e. 5?10 Myr). The pattern of present-day deformation, including increasingly fast motions towards the Hellenic trench, and the roughly simultaneous opening of all the major Mediterranean basins in the early Miocene with the slowing of the Nubia-Eurasia convergence, support conceptual models that foundering and rollback of the subducted Nubian slab beneath the Aegean is the primary mechanism responsible for present-day motion and internal deformation of the Anatolian-Aegean region.

Geological Structure Informs Rupture Propagation And Surface Rupture Complexity During The 2016 Kaik?Ura Earthquake, New Zealand: Insights For Future Large Earthquake Hazard, Kelvin Berryman, Mark Rattenbury, Stephen Bannister, Susan Ellis, Pilar Villamor, Donna Eberhart-Phillips, Phaedra Upton, Andrew Howell Jan 2023

Geological Structure Informs Rupture Propagation And Surface Rupture Complexity During The 2016 Kaik?Ura Earthquake, New Zealand: Insights For Future Large Earthquake Hazard, Kelvin Berryman, Mark Rattenbury, Stephen Bannister, Susan Ellis, Pilar Villamor, Donna Eberhart-Phillips, Phaedra Upton, Andrew Howell

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

We summarise the geological setting of complex surface rupture of the 2016 Mw 7.8 Kaik?ura earthquake in the Marlborough Tectonic Domain of New Zealand. The event was complex both seismologically and geologically but not totally dissimilar to other large historical events globally. The earthquake occurred in the comprehensively imbricated, steeply-dipping Pahau Terrane crust that exhibits numerous tectonic overprints with diverse faulting styles. The current strike slip faults of the Marlborough Fault System are immature in their structural development and occupy, at least in part, inherited faults of earlier deformation phases. Several of the faults that ruptured in 2016 may connect …

Paleoseismology Of The Ganos Segment; The Western Extend Of The North Anatolian Fault (Turkey), Murat Ersen Aksoy, Mustapha Meghraoui, Matthieu Ferry, Zi̇yadi̇n Çakir, Gülsen Uçarkuş, Taylan Sançar, Mehmet Uğur Altin

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Ganos fault that ruptured on 9 August 1912 (Mw: 7.4) is the westernmost inland segment of the North Anatolian fault (NAF). Here, the Ganos fault is bounded at its two tips with offshore faults segments, in the Sea of Marmara to the east and the Gulf of Saros to the west in the North Aegean Trough. Therefore, the paleoseismology of the 45-km-long inland fault is of importance to the seismic hazard analysis related to offshore active faults and in particular for the seismic gap in the Marmara Region. Earlier studies have established an earthquake chronology for the western and …

Paleoseismology Of The Sürgü And Çardak Faults - Splays Of The Eastern Anatolian Fault Zone, Türkiye, Musa Balkaya, Hüsnü Serdar Akyüz, Süha Özden

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The sinistral East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ) and the dextral North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) are two important strike-slip faults that delimit the boundaries of the Anatolian plate. The north-south directed compressional forces in eastern Türkiye trigger the westward escape of the Anatolian plate along these prominent structures. This study aims to reveal the earthquake history of the Sürgü and Çardak faults, which are important fault segments that splay from the EAFZ. In this context, overall, four paleoseismologic trenches were dug, two trenches on the Sürgü Fault and two trenches on the Çardak Fault. Along the Sürgü Fault, at least …

Land Subsidence Due To Natural Gas Extraction In The Thrace Basin (Nw Turkey) And Its Influence On The North Anatolian Fault Under The Marmara Sea, Tohid Nozadkhalil, Zi̇yadi̇n Çakir, Semi̇h Ergi̇ntav, Uğur Doğan, Thomas R. Walter Jan 2023

Walter

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

We map surface deformation in the Thrace region of Turkey using the Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series analysis of the SAR data acquired between 2014 and 2020 on ascending and descending orbits reveals large-scale subsidence (~110 × 60 km) with rates reaching up to 10 ± 1.5 mm/yr. We relate this deformation to natural gas reservoir operations, such as gas exploitation and extraction activities that have been taking place in the region for decades, an inference being supported by the strong correlation between the InSAR time series and the variation in natural …

The Inequalities On Dual Numbers And Their Topological Structures, Buşra Aktaş, Olgun Durmaz, Hali̇t Gündoğan

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Inequalities are frequently used in various fields of mathematics to prove theorems. The existence of inequalities contributes significantly to the foundations of such branches. In this paper, we study the properties of order relations in the system of dual numbers, which is inspired by order relations defined on real numbers. Besides, some special inequalities that are used in various fields of mathematics, such as Cauchy-Schwarz, Minkowski, and Chebyshev are studied in this framework. An example is also provided to validate our research findings.

Metallic-Like Structures And Metallic-Like Maps, Adelina Manea Jan 2023

Metallic-Like Structures And Metallic-Like Maps, Adelina Manea

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The metallic-like $(a,b)$-manifold is a manifold endowed with a polynomial structure of second degree which unifies the almost product, complex structures and includes metallic structures. We introduce the metallic-like maps between metallic-like $(a,b)$-manifolds and we give a criterion for the nonconstancy of these maps. We prove that an almost contact structure on a Riemannian manifold induces a metallic-like $(a,b)$-structure and we give an example of a nonconstant metallic-like endomorphism of a particular almost contact manifold.

$\Ast$-Semiclean Rings, Shefali Gupta, Dinesh Udar Jan 2023

$\Ast$-Semiclean Rings, Shefali Gupta, Dinesh Udar

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

A ring $R$ is called semiclean if every element of $R$ can be expressed as sum of a periodic element and a unit. In this paper, we introduce a new class of ring, which is the $\ast$-version of the semiclean ring, i.e. the $\ast$-semiclean ring. A $\ast$-ring is $\ast$-semiclean if each element is a sum of a $\ast$-periodic element and a unit. The term $\ast$-semiclean is a stronger notion than semiclean. In this paper, many properties of $\ast$-semiclean rings are discussed. It is proved that if $p \in P(R)$ such that $pRp$ and $(1-p)R(1-p)$ are $\ast$-semiclean rings, then $R$ is …

Pithonellid Calcitarch Record In The Middle? Cenomanian Derdere-A Member, Se Turkey: Palaeoenvironmental Changes And Stratigraphic Significance, Oğuz Mülayi̇m, İsmai̇l Ömer Yilmaz, Bruno Ferré Jan 2023

Pithonellid Calcitarch Record In The Middle? Cenomanian Derdere-A Member, Se Turkey: Palaeoenvironmental Changes And Stratigraphic Significance, Oğuz Mülayi̇m, İsmai̇l Ömer Yilmaz, Bruno Ferré

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Pithonellid calcitarchs are studied in the organic-rich limestones of the Derdere-A Member from the middle? Cenomanian deposits of SE Turkey for the first time. Little is known about the distribution of pithonellid calcitarchs in the Cretaceous strata of Turkey. Three morphogroups of pithonellid calcitarchs are distinguished: they are represented by Pithonella sphaerica (Kaufmann, 1865) and P. ovalis (Kaufmann, 1865), both dominating the pithonellid assemblages, and by Bonetocardiella conoidea (Bonet, 1956), this latter being less abundant. Compared to the relative abundance of Upper Cretaceous pithonellid calcitarchs in the study area, the diversity is extremely low. The significant increase in abundance of …

Multiphase Deformation, Fluid Flow And Mineralization In Epithermal Systems: Inferences From Structures, Vein Textures And Breccias Of The Kestanelik Epithermal Au-Ag Deposit, Nw Turkey, Ni̇lay Gülyüz, Zoe Kai̇ Shipton, İlkay Kuşcu

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

We investigate the multiphase deformation, fluid flow, and mineralization processes in epithermal systems by presenting a detailed study of vein textures and breccias of the Kestanelik epithermal Au-Ag deposit, NW Turkey. The mineralization in the deposit is associated with several quartz veins. Fault-hosted veins and mode I veins share many textural and breccia characteristics owing to (i) overprinting of tectonic breccias formed during coseismic rupturing by subsequent coseismic hydrothermal brecciation and (ii) reworking of earlier vein breccia phases by repeated rupturing and hydraulic fracturing events. The spatial distribution of breccias at fault-hosted veins proposes that power of coseismic hydrothermal brecciation …

Hydrogeochemical Pattern And Environmental Isotope Hydrology Of Coastal Bademli Geothermal Area (Bga) In Western Turkey (Dikili-İzmir): A New Geothermal Prospect, Adi̇le Meli̇s Somay Altaş, Ünsal Gemi̇ci̇ Jan 2023

Hydrogeochemical Pattern And Environmental Isotope Hydrology Of Coastal Bademli Geothermal Area (Bga) In Western Turkey (Dikili-İzmir): A New Geothermal Prospect, Adi̇le Meli̇s Somay Altaş, Ünsal Gemi̇ci̇

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Bademli geothermal area (BGA) is located on the coastline of Dikili-İzmir province and consists of Bademli spring and Hayıtlı areas with 36.8-51°C discharge temperatures, respectively. The waters of Hayıtlı borehole have remarkable seawater mixing ratios like Bademli spring and have Na-Cl water type. Dikili group pyroclastic volcanic units constitute the reservoir rock in the entire geothermal area. The heat source is relatively elevated geothermal gradient caused by extensional tectonics forming E-W trending grabens. Bademli thermal water is plotted in the "immature waters" area in the Na-K-Mg triangular diagram with a calculated seawater contribution of 18%. Therefore, some cation geothermometers are …

Evidence For Surface Rupture Of The 1939 Erzincan Earthquake Based On Field Data And Paleoseismology On The Ezinepazarı Fault (North Anatolian Fault Zone, Central Anatolia), Fi̇kret Koçbulut

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Ezinepazarı Fault (EPF) is an active segment that restricts the Niksar Basin in the central part of the North Anatolian Fault Zone and has been the source of the devastating Mw 8.0 earthquake in the last 100 years. Traces of the surface rupture of the EPF, which occurred in AD 1939, can still be observed in the field today as a right-lateral strike-slip character. While paleoseismological studies were mostly focused on the western part of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) in previous studies, the studies on the central and eastern parts of the NAFZ are rarely addressed. In …

Geology Of The Eastern Anatolian Plateau (Turkey): A Synthesis, Ali̇ Yilmaz, Gülteki̇n Topuz, Tuna Eken, Osman Candan, Hüseyi̇n Yilmaz

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Eastern Anatolian Plateau (EAP), approximately 2000 m above sea level, is located between the Eastern Pontides to the north, the Arabian Platform to the south, and the Iranian Plateau to the east. It is characterized by approximately 6 km-thick Maastrichtian to Quaternary volcano-sedimentary cover which unconformably overlies continental and oceanic basement units. Overall, the outcrops of the pre-Maastrichtian basement are rare and include both continental and oceanic units. This led to drastically different interpretations of the nature of the pre-Maastrichtian basement as (i) the oceanic accretionary complex or (ii) continental crust and overlying ophiolitic mélange. This synthesis deals with …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

At the south of the Bardsir, Kerman province, Iran, the southeastern part of the Urmia-Dokhtar magmatic arc (UDMA), a large number of gabbroic intrusions are intruded into the Eocene lava flows and pyroclastic rocks with the form of small stocks and dykes. In this paper, geochemical variations, magmatic evolutions, and the origin of these intrusions are investigated. The studied intrusions are characterized by fine-grained margins resulting from rapid cooling and flow differentiation. They display porphyritic texture and include coarse-grained clinopyroxene with diopside compositions (Wo = 46.89, En = 40.78, Fs = 12.32), plagioclase with labradorite composition (An = 54.14), and …

Neotectonic And Topographic Evolution Of The Bitlis-Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt, Se Turkey, Hali̇l Zorer, Yahya Öztürk, Azad Sağlam Selçuk

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Bitlis-Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt is one of the world?s largest deformation zones, extending from the Eastern Mediterranean in southern Turkey to in the south of Iran. This deformation zone is partitioned between different structures; however, little is known about the relative activities of these different structures and their effects on topography. An area located in the northern part of Bitlis- Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt, just south of the Eastern Anatolian Plateau was studied in detail to analyze the effect of active tectonism on topographic development. The effects of active deformation structures such as Hakkâri and Şirvan Fault Segments on the topographic …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

One of the major concerns in poultry production presents heat stress (HS) and it is followed by significant economic loss manifested by reduced growth, decreased immune response, increased mortality, etc. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the early-age thermal conditioning (ETC) and vitamin C (Vit.C) treatments, individually and in combination, produce their beneficial effects through increased heat release manifested as a change in respiration rate consequentially leading to a decrease in the chicken's body temperature and thus reduce the harmful effects of HS. A 400 broiler chicks mixed sex male and female were split into four groups. …

Characterizations And Representations Of Weak Core Inverses And $M$-Weak Group Inverses, Wende Li, Jianlong Chen, Yukun Zhou

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In a ring with an involution, we first present some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the $m$-weak group inverse and expression. As an application, we prove that a regular element $a$ is $(m+1)$-weak group invertible if and only if $a^2a^{-}$ is $m$-weak group invertible, where $a^{-}$ is an inner inverse of $a$. The relevant results for weak core inverses and for pseudocore inverses are given. In addition, we present some new characterizations of weak core inverses, and also investigate maximal classes

The Adjoint Reidemeister Torsion For Compact 3-Manifolds Admitting A Unique Decomposition, Esma Di̇ri̇can Erdal

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $M$ be a triangulated, oriented, connected compact $3$-manifold with a connected nonempty boundary. Such a manifold admits a unique decomposition into $\triangle$-prime $3$-manifolds. In this paper, we show that the adjoint Reidemeister torsion has a multiplicative property on the disk sum decomposition of compact $3$-manifolds without a corrective term.
