Variations In Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Copper, Zinc And Manganese Contents Of Wheat Andrice Varieties Under Salt Stress, Mehmet Alpaslan, Aydın Güneş, Süleyman Taban, İbrahim Erdal, Ceyhan Tarakcioğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Variations in Ca, P, Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn contents of six wheat (Gerek, Bolal, Kıraç, Çakmak, Bezostaya and Kızıltan) and six rice varieties (Ribe, Tri-445, Serhat 92, Kros 424, Baldo and Rocca) under salt stress were investigated. Growth was inhibited by salinity. Salinity decreased P content of Kızıltan, while increased rice cultivars of Tri-445 and Kros 424. Iron contents of wheat cultivars of Gerek, Bolal and Kıraç and rice cultivars of Tri-445 and Rocca were decreased by salinity. Response Of Apis Mellifera Syriacaand A. M. Armeniacatonectar Variations: Implications For Agriculture, İbrahim Çakmak, Harrington Wells, Çetin Firatli

The foraging ecology of Apis mellifera syriaca and A. m. armeniaca was studied using artificial flower patches consisting of blue, white, and yellow flowers. Two experiments were performed with each race. Experiment I examined forager response to differences in sucrose reward molarity (quality of reward) associated with flower colors. Experiment II varied the quantity of sucrose reward associated with flower colors. A. m. syriacaand A. m. armeniacaeach responded to quality and quantity differences between blue and white flowers. Prior studies show that A. m. caucasica and A. m. ligustica respond to reward quality difference, but they do not respond to …

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of natural zeolite on the performance of laying hens. One hundred and eighty 37-week-old Babcock B-300 hens were fed with a diet containing 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 g clinoptilolite/kg in an experiment consisting of 36 hens per treatment during a 4x28 days experimental period. All feeding programs were isocaloric and isonitrogenous. Hens were put at random into 5 treatment groups (12 replicates and 36 hens per treatment). We examined the effect of global cerebral ischemia (Two vessel occlusion plus systemic hypotension method) for 15 minutes on the hippocampal CA1 and CA3 neurones in rats, and compared with turn prefence scores. 14 of 27 animals were ambidexter while 9 had left and 4 had right turn preference. The left turns were significantly different from rights (t:2,26 df:26 p:0,032). Male rats prefered 62,73% and females 56,88% left turns. Forty-eight hours following the global cerebral ischemic insult, animals were sacrificed and brains were examined by using light microscope. The roles of serum on the initial attachment and adhesion strength of CHL cells, which is gained following initial attachment, spreading and growth, on tissue culture polystyrene dish were determined by using a convergent Microflow chamber. In the presence of 10% fetal calf serum 98%±2% of cells were attaching within 2 hours at 37°C. While only 74%±3% of cells were attaching during the same period of incubation in serum free medium. Background: Latex has been documented as causing immediate hypersensitivity reactions ranging from contact urticaria to severe anaphylaxis. The prevalence of latex allergy appears to be higher in certain risk groups due to increased exposure or to an increased intrinsic predilection for atopy. The purpose of the present study was both to assess latex sensitivity in a large group of allergic patients and in hospital emyloyees and to evaluate the relationship between latex sensitivity and skin prick test (SPT) responses to fruits as well as inhalant allergens. Distribution Of Tamoxifen In Rat Tissues Duringsteady-State Treatment, Ayşe Kafkasli, Erkan Ünlenen, Beyhan Demi̇rhan, Saim Yoloğlu

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Tamoxifen citrate (TAM), a nonsteroidal antiestrogen, is a drug of choice in the endocrine treatment for all stages of breast cancer in both pre and postmenopausal patients. The tissue distrubution of TAM alone and combined with medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) following long-term p.o. administration in immature rats is investigated in the present study. The highest consentrations of TAM has been found in the hypophysis in both groups. TAM consentrations were effected by MPA treatment in the liver and kidneys.

Prevalence Of Bovine Eimeridosis In Thracia, Turkey, M. Özkan Arslan, Erkut Tüzer

In this study, 768 faecal samples were examined between June 1993-May 1994 to determine the species and the prevalence rates of Eimeriidae in the cattle of Thracia area (The European part of Turkey). The prevalence rate of eimeridosis was found to be 68%. The species determined and their prevalence rates were as follows: Eimeria bovis(34%), E.auburnensis(27%), E.zeuernii(26%), E.ellipsoiDalıs (14%), E.canadensis (12%), E.cylindrica (7.9%), E.supspherica (7.2%), E.alabamensis (4.9%), E.bukidnonensis (2.2%), E.brasiliensis (0.8%) and Isospora sp. (1.2%). Of 768 animals, 29% were found to be infected with single species, 39% with mixed ones and 32% were non-infected. During the study, two calves …

In recent years, it has been discussed intensively whether the potassium channel openers or blockers have antiarrhythmic effect during ischemia and reperfusion. Although there are many in vitro studies suggesting the potassium channel blokers especial-ly glibenclamide have antiarrhythmic effect, there is a very few in vivo expertiment to support the same result. The purpose of the study has been to investigate the effect of preand postnatal Cd exposure on conduction velocity of sciatic nerve. Pregnant Swiss albino rats were divided into three groups as control (C), cadmium (Cd) and non-cadmium (NCd) groups. Control animals received tap water while rats in Cd group received Cd as CdCl 2 in their drinking water during the experimental period. The mothers of the NCd group were given Cd during their pregnancy but given tap water after birth. Twenty-two days after birth (postnatal day 22) the rats were separated from the mothers. The aim of this study was to investigate the structural asymmetry between the hemispheres by comparing the number of pyramidal cells in the right dorsal hippocampus with left dorsal hippocampus in the rabbit brain. Six adult domestic New Zeland rabbits were used in experiments. All animals were perfused intracardially with neutral formaline (10 %) under deep aneasthesia. The serial frontal sections were stained with thionin. The rostro-caudal level of these sections were determined by using a stereotaxic atlas of the rabbit brain.
