Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
The effects of Rumex patientia and Urtica dioica on levels of blood glucose, plasma amino acids and other parameters, urine excreta, and liver and kidney histology were examined in diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin. Streptozotocin increased blood glucose and changed the levels of amino acids and other parameters, and caused degenerative changes in the liver and kidney. Rumex patientia had some protective effect on these parameters changed by streptozotocin, while Urtica diocia had no protective effects.

The Therapeutic Effect Of Nifedipine As A Ca+2entry Blocker On Experimental Transientischemic Retina, Murat Kaya, Cemal Gündoğdu
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
We evaluated the effect of nifedip-ine, an L-type voltage sensitive Ca+2 channel (VSCC) blocker, on the onset of neuronal damage induced by transient ischemia of guinea pig retinas in vivo. The animals were divided into two groups. In the first group 2 mg/kg Nifedipine was administered intraperi-toneally, while only 2 cc/kg NaCl 0.9% solution was given to the second group thirty minutes before the ischemic insult. Seven days after the temporary ligation of bilateral common carotid arteries for 45 minutes, the animals were dispatched and the eyes were enucleated for histopathologic analysis. It was observed that in the Nifedipine treated …

The mean diameters of lympocytes in cortex were 4.54±0.08 ??while those of plasma cells were 6.36±0.33 ?. The mean diameters of lymphocytes in medulla were 4.49±0.08 ?, and that of plasma cells were …

Effect Of Macroscopic Classification Of Bovine Ovarian Follicles On Steroidogenicactivities Of Granulosa Cells In Vitro, Mehmet Kuran
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study aimed to investigate relationships between steroidogenic characteristics and abilities, and some macroscopic characteristics of bovine ovarian follicles and to relate this criterion to the physiological status of the follicles. Follicular fluid of 5 to 8 mm diameter follicles from bovine ovaries (n=46) were analysed and steroidogenic activities of granulosa cells were studied. For the macroscopic classification of the follicles (n=232), appearence of the follicles, thecal vascularization, the colour of theca interna and the presence of follicular debri were determined. Follicles were classified as non-atretic, intermediate and atretic using the cri-terion above. Oestradiol-17b concenration was higher than progesterone concentration …

A study was carried out on morphology and seasonal distribution of myiasis flies in Elazığ and its districts (Sivrice, Kovancılar, Baskil and Salkaya) in 1994-1995. Putrified meat, liver and spleen pieces were used as baits to attract and congregate myiasis flies. In addition the baits were treated with Golden Malrin to kill the attracted flies for collection. Thus a total of 10440 myiasis flies were collected from the study sites. They were composed 7989 (76.52 %) Lucilia sericata, 35 (0.34 %) L. caesar, 540 (5.17 %) Calliphora vicina, 46 (0.44 %) C. vomitoria, 1416 (13.56 %) Chrysomyia albiceps, 3 (0.03 …

Time Dependent Changes In The Cristaneuroepithelium Resulting From Gentamicinototoxicity In The Chinchilla, Hasan Tanyeri̇, Ivan Lopez, Larry Hoffman
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
This experiment was conducted to investigate the time-dependent effects of gentamicin (GM) on the neuroepithelial morphology of the posterior crista ampullares (PCA) of the adult chinchilla. The time course of GM-induced HC pathology was documented through measurements of HC density as well as through HC morphologic evaluation. HC morphology was examined under light microscopy and HC density measurements were documented as a function of the time course of GM-induced ototoxicity. Six groups of animals (n=12) were treated with daily injections of 30 mg/kg of GM subcutaneously (SC) for six days and were sacrificed 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 …

At the same time, the profit was calculated as …
The Relationships Between Penetration Resistance And Certain Soil Properties, Cevdet Şeker
The Relationships Between Penetration Resistance And Certain Soil Properties, Cevdet Şeker
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between penetration resistance and certain soil properties, and to develop regression equations based on these relationships for predicting penetration resistance. Field studies were conducted on four different Entisol soils in plains in the Konya regions. Below 0.2 \mum, pore-size distribution was found to be positively relatd to soil penetration resistanca and bulk density. Above 50 \mum, pro-size distribution was found to be negatively related to soil penetration resistance and total porosity.

This study was conducted to determine the annual variations in crude protein, crude cellulose, P, K, Ca and Mg contents, and the ratio of K/(Ca+Mg) of crested wheatgrass, subalpine brome, sheep fescue, junegrass, needlegrass, hybrid alfalfa and cat thyme in Erzurum rangelands, during the 1994 growing season. Crude protein, P, Mg and K contents steadily decreased toward to end of the growth stage although cellulose content increased. Ca content increased until blooming stage in all plants. Plant leaves had richer nutrient contents than the stems in all growing periods. The K/(Ca+Mg) ratio was high at the beginning of the vegetative …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
An experiment was conducted at Hatay in experimental station and farmers field during 1995-96 and 1996-97 season to work out the response of pea cv. Marmara to Rhizobium inoculation and chemical fertilization. Rhizobium inoculation increased the number of nodules and nodules dry weight in both year and location significantly. Nodulation status were superior in farmers field which has persistent history of legume cultivation. Nitrogen application and inoculation significantly increased total above ground dry matter except farmers field in 1996-97, and seed yields over uninoculated and without nitrogen given plots in both location. The highest above ground dry matter and seed …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
This study was conducted to determine the changes in some agronomical characters of the autotetraploid perennial rye depending on the time in Erzurum between May-August months in 1996 and 1997 years. In the experiment, plant samples were taken at fifteen-day intervals between onset of the growing and beginning of the seed mature stage. In the samples, plant height, hay production, and the ratio of leaf, dry matter, crude protein, crude cellulose, crude ash, Ca, K, Mg and P were analyzed. According to regression analysis results, all investigated characters except for Ca had significant relationships based on the time.

The Effect Of Lead Inhalation On Rat Lungmorphology, Bi̇lge Onarlioğlu, Turhan Onarlioğlu, Sena Erdal
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Lead may exert toxic effects on several organ systems, but those in the lung are the most insidious. Therefore the aim of the present study was to investigate the morphological alterations caused by lead intoxication in rat lungs. Twenty-five Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups: the control group consisted of five animals while the experimental groups contained ten animals each. The control group animals were not subjected to lead treatment, whereas the first experimental group animals were exposed to 500 \mug /0.1 m 3 /day of lead for one week, and the second group had the same dosage …

Tear samples were collected by folding a 5 mm section of a Schirmer strip over the lower lid margin to absorb tear fluid from the lower conjunctival sac for 5 min. Forty animals were divided into four groups (n=10). Group 1 (control) received 1ml of saline, group 2 received 60mg/kg of ASA, group 3 received 50mg/kg of Acetylcholine (Ach), and group 4 received 60mg/kg of ASA and 30 min …
